Midjourney Art of the Day

The hands again aren't quite right, but they are attached to her wrists and there aren't three of them, unlike one of the other pictures in this batch.

If someone wanted to illustrate a fantasy role-playing game, Midjourney would be a godsend. Except that it doesn't understand what it's doing, it just makes a pastiche of what it's seen.

Now, it's seen literally millions of photos and pieces of art and it's grown very good at making pastiches, but it has no understanding and no imagination.

If you want an illustration, it's great. If you want an illustration of something, hire an artist.

This Midjourney AI looks like it would be useful to create book cover art for self-publishing. Some of the generic cover art I've seen in that field is discouraging and rarely motivates me to buy the book.

Indeed, one of the striking things watching these "AI" systems at work is how many supposed humans act the same way.

Yes, if you're on a limited budget but have time to spend fiddling with prompts, you can get some pretty good results.

As long as you don't want to depict blood or violence or any of a whole secret list of other topics. Midjourney is very censorious. (Other sites are less so.)

I discovered by accident that they have banned the word "petite" in character descriptions.

That's a problem, then. I write about blood and violence, and part of what gets people to buy a book (or used to) is a scene of action. And if it doesn't like "petite," something tells me it would object to having an attractive woman, a whole-body shot, in the illustration.

That's very sad. Kids, especially girls, are growing up as mental train wrecks. I blame social media, Trump, and climate change, but mostly...

Oh, and Sheila Jackson Lee is running for mayor of Houston. She will probably win. In my informal poll of 5 people, 2 of the 5 would prefer a plague of locusts.

AI is artificial but it is not intelligence. While I assume the majority of the reason they're working on this is to be able to fire a bunch of humans and do things cheaper, a side effect is that the propagandists will point to the answers, etc, given by AI as proof that a "thinking" being with no cultural baggage will reliably produce leftist thought.

The sheeple will eat it up.

72 Under current law, students can opt out of their local public school and attend a private or charter school using the state funding that would have otherwise gone to the local school. The program was primarily geared toward children with disabilities or those from low- or middle-income households, with eligibility capped at 375 percent of the poverty-level income. The new law would remove all eligibility caps but still prioritize lower-income students and those in foster care.

Andrew Spar, president of the Florida Education Association (FEA), the state's teacher's union, excoriated the bill in a statement. Under H.B. 1, he contended, "average Floridians will be helping pay for millionaires and billionaires to send their kids to elite private schools."

Notice his logic fallacy. All people pay taxes that are directed to education. In fact the rich always pay more. All this law does is let the children have the funds, versus the school.
It is about $7k per student and comes from local property tax (a part is directed tot he state) and sales taxes.

The simply don't care but the mask mania over here is absolutely out of control and comical all at the same time.

The missus and I are "naked" faced all the time and no one says a word and we smile often because that's us. Its comical in the sense that lots of locals (including most of our in-laws) wear them fanatically in every instance until they sit down with food, a drink, or having a snack and then as soon as they have finished and get up they put it back on as if its a normal thing. I have bit my lip numerous times (aka been kicked by the wife) to not ask the obvious question - are you just obedient because or just that stupid. LOL

Funny thing is that we set up a resort AirBNB to host the entire sibling gang with mom/dad last Saturday/Sunday and no one wore a mask at any point but as soon as they drove to get beer at 7/11 or grab some street food on it went. It makes no sense...

I think the final blow for my wife's school however was when Pope Fiction shifted the teacher pension cost from some sharing to 100% onto the local schools. Whoever was the last school the teacher taught at got the albatross around the neck. Which meant older teachers closer to retirement would never get a job offer again.

I explained this to my wife when no job offer was forthcoming but she still took it hard.

96 Clown world. To carry a snub nose 38 revolver, I have to jump through a bunch of hoops at the sheriff’s office, complete a course, and pay a bunch of fees because my pistol will be (que scary music) concealed. But, any psychopath pervert can walk out of any gun store with any number of high powered rifles and unlimited amounts of NATO ammo designed to shoot through body armor at 500 yards. Clown world.

Spare me the NRA talking points. I want to what brain dead fool sold this pervert the guns and the ammo.

I mentioned a few weeks ago they finally dropped the masks at my hospital. First time I had seen my doctors face was last Friday. He has a beard and said he grew when they mandated masks for the entire hospital. The mask made his face break out. He has a glorious red beard!

100 @96. Conflating having to get permit to carry (which is definitely wrong) with "Audrey" being able to buy a gun is problematic. Freedom comes with risk. The real question is why people like this aren't managed by society better - it's clown world because the crazies are in the wire.

102 Skip, if you are looking for an easy Faraday cage for your phone, I actually made one from directions I found a few years ago using poster board and - yes! - aluminum foil. And it does work.

Of course, they also sell all sorts of boxes and bags on Amazon. We have them for our car fobs and they work.

108 What Trump should have done after he fired Comey was jump ahead in time and see what kind of director of the FBI Wray was going to be. Or at the very least listened to all the people cautioning him about Wray, though I don't remember any of those either.

I was top tracked in high school, in what they refer to as homogeneous grouping. Students of similar IQ and achievement.
At about the ninth grade a flock of new faces appeared as Catholic grade school graduates entered the public school system. They all ended up top tracked and what was once one class became two. So we had a total of about five classes.

Then someone decided this method of grouping is unfair. Which is how my grandson ended up sitting in a public school classroom next to a special needs student who screamed in his ear all day. Yup, home school mom my daughter became. Based on his final year achievement and SAT scores this grandson is now in college on a 100% scholarship.

Fvck the public schools and their education theories.

Football stadiums and field houses, what a colossal waste of taxpayer money. I guess it could be worse, the city of 30,000 near me is having a referendum Tuesday to borrow 2.5 million to pay the cops and fireman the fiscal year ending in June. No shit.

Yeah, that was my guess approximately. But I could see some leftist reading that and coming to a wrong conclusion. When adults do gummies it's one thing but little kids are showing up in school with them and passing them around to classmates.
