The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

The vicious, rabid hatred of America's armed forces on the part of the Democrat/Socialist apparatus currently in control of the Pentagon is on full, proud display with its 2024 military budget proposal. Gutting the offensive power of an already diminished United States Navy, and decreasing the ability of the navy to move United States Marines to the battle seems like a post-modern fever dream, but it is fast becoming reality.

Perhaps the notion that they are nothing more than (not so)crypto-socialists should be revisited. Looking back at the various socialist governments than came to power over the last 100 years we see a pattern of military growth among the first-line of socialist penetration, and a pattern of disarmament among the second-line countries...those whose socialism came about in part because of infiltration of their political and social apparatus by the original socialist countries. The Soviet Union was maniacally militaristic for its entire history. Their expansion into eastern Europe would have been impossible to maintain without a huge military. Yet their infiltration of Great Britain's political and social institutions beginning in the 1930s was the catalyst for much of the country's current-day weakness.

Biden's Budget Cuts Funds to U.S. Navy As China Ramps Up Shipbuilding

President Joe Biden’s 2024 budget proposal would deal a massive blow to the already strained American Navy—the White House wants to prematurely retire eight ships and two combat vessels. By taking these ships out of action, the Navy would lose more than 600 vertical launch missile systems—a missile capability that serves as the primary deterrent to Chinese military attacks in the Pacific, according to congressional research provided to the Washington Free Beacon.

Biden’s budget would decrease the total number of active Navy ships, retiring at least 11 ships while only requesting the construction of nine new vessels. The Navy currently has 294 battle force ships, far short of the 355 it is required to have by law. Biden’s budget would further reduce this number, according to information about the White House’s 2023 budget proposal codified by Wicker’s office.

Is this the same process that occurred in Great Britain? Swap out the USSR for China and replace great Britain with America, the effects are almost identical. The infiltration of American academia is complete, and it was only a matter of time before Lenin's "useful idiots" entered the halls of government power.

But the difference is stark. The Soviet Union fought to protect itself and expand. That they failed is a function of the inherent flaws in socialism itself, and not their focus and drive to conquer their adversaries in the West.

In Great Britain, and now in The United States, the drive is for self destruction! Shrinking our armed forces benefits nobody but the Chinese and other unknown future enemies. There is no benefit to America other than freeing up more deficit spending for failing social programs.

So calling the Biden junta "socialists" may be giving them too much credit. They are the useful idiots who obediently follow the fairy tales of socialism, but are incapable of seeing its reality and even acting in the same manner as the Soviets and the Chinese...fighting to protect and grow their countries.

And with it, the death of globalization continues apace. America's actual defensive and force-projection needs notwithstanding, the USN serves another purpose. The basic assumption underpinning globalization is simple: "Security is a non-issue because the United States - and particularly the United States Navy - has security handled and trade routes will thus remain safe and open. You can count on it, and you can redesign your economy to depend on it."

US naval power is what underpins *everything* at this point. Global trade? Navy. Defense compacts? USN. Security treaties? USN. Trade agreements? USN. It has been the outsized power of the US Navy that has allowed this trade-centric, globalized world to develop. Without the USN, that world ends.

29 The decommissioning of the Guided Missile Cruisers (CG's) isn't as bad as it seems. The new Burke class Guided Missile Destroyers (DDG's) are every bit as capable and in some cases, superior to the older CG's. However, given the current situation with China and their ambitions with Taiwan I'd have kept the CG's around. They're still integrated with our nuclear carrier battle groups so it's not that big of a deal to keep them.

Short sighted IMO.

The entirety of the Pacific Rim depends on the USN. China, yes - and hugely - but also Korea, Taiwan, Japan and SE Asia. A fair amount of Mediterranean trade also depends on the USN. Piracy is virtually unknown along major trading routes because it's well understood that if you try it, the USN will destroy you. We haven't had to in a long time. The Navy itself is a hell of a deterrent.

But we also, as a country, have the massive benefit of geography. North America is more than self-sufficient. There is some stuff we don't have (titanium, for example) but relatively little. The US/Canada/Mexico bloc will remain powerful no matter what because of this.

69 Which means a return to piracy on the high seas.

China will be quite happy to patrol the waters between Hawaii and mainland US, to help fight piracy, and in other parts of the world too.

If piracy isn't completely deterred, still it's the gesture that matters. I think China doesn't care so much about outcomes as it cares about making nice friendship gestures.

The LCS's are so incompetently designed, badly built, and are so vulnerable in their proposed use that they are utterly useless to the Navy. They would be most useful as TNT-stuffed, remotely controlled suicide ships, and even in that role would probably be sunk far outside the theater of battle.

So, not a yuge loss. Otherwise, I'm sure Zhou Bai-den is doing his best to gut the Navy in the face of Chy-Nah's aggression and expansionist tendencies.

273 Tucker Carlson Responds After Dishonest Headlines Say He Called Trans People 'The Enemy' of Christianity

There is no such thing as "trans people". There are men and women with the mental disorder of gender dysphoria. "Transgender" is a made-up word and made-up "gender" that does not exist and will never exist. It is not possible to "transition" from one gender to the other. Period. That is biological fact.

If someone identified as a puppy, we would not call them puppy people, we would call them mentally disordered. The same applies here. Stop calling them "transgender" or "trans people". They are not. They are males and females with a mental disorder. And a sane society does not support or promote or celebrate mental disorders, it treats them.

This evil cult movement cannot be defeated unless people stop granting legitimacy to their nonsensical butchering of biological fact and the English language.

Graft/to force implementation of of their policies.
Think: Obama's Fast and Furious, where he created an environment where one cartel was armed and killing many just so that he could then shutdown gun sales in border states and implement gun restrictions.

For every problem these mayors (and DAs and city councils) create there is an opportunity to receive federal funding to "fix" it, new laws to "fix" it.
For example, Lori Lightfoot told street vendors complaining about constantly being robbed of cash that the best solution was to convert to electronic payments (the Left wants a cashless society). ANd gun crimes in major cities -- made possible by letting violent criminals out on no-cash bail -- must be fixed by gun control.

The key is to understand that these mayors' goals are not aligned with their communities, they are in it for the graft opportunities (more funding to fix whatever!) and their radical agenda.

The press will back off on the furious demands for it, CA will announce some run-of-the-mill and largely useless welfare program for blacks only, it will be challenged in court and the order will come down from on high for the judges to agree with the plaintiff that purely race-based welfare is illegal. CA can say it tried, they can direct the fury toward the federal courts, take their winnings from the graft lottery, and move on to the next thing.

The Iwo Jima was a pig boat. I believe is was used for a while by the Navy as an Airborne Mine Countermeasure platform somewhere on the Texas coast.

140 Don't really see the logic here. The current regime is a bunch of Victoria Nuland-style delusional neoliberal warmongers who are trying their best to provoke WW3.

And to be fair the military has pretty much already been reduced to a glorified jobs program/laboratory for far-left social experiments--the DMV with missiles. The foreign mercenaries that constitute our late-Roman military are more likely to be turned against what remains of the American people at this point than any supposed foreign adversary, so perhaps it's better if this evil regime's ability to enforce its tyrannical will is curtailed.

Can we look at what the ruling class have done and are currently doing and seriously think that the military is going to be used in the service of our own interests? We can't even establish our own borders. Is there even a nation left to defend anymore?

Part of the covid lock down mess was an effort to keep California afloat by pouring billions of $$$ into the State under the guise of covid relief.

A famine is very, very possible. Likely not a single monstrous famine in one place (like during the Great Leap Forward or the Ukraine terror famine or the Somalia famine), but reduced food production across a wide band that reduces food availability and increases expenses enough that marginal areas starve.

The agricultural system is quite heavily globalized and it has taken a *lot* of blows recently - from equipment (chip shortages, etc.) to inputs (fertilizers and seed) and the like. Will there be a single region that basically starves to death? I doubt it. Will be there broad-spectrum pressure with a tremendous amount of malnutrition and specific places that see literal starvation? I think that's a lot more possible.

It's why - as we learned after the fall of the USSR - the Soviet Union had no serious war plans for invading the United States. They assumed they'd be ground into dogmeat by the army as they made their way across Canada, and if they made it to the US itself then there'd be a gun behind every blade of grass.

They always planned to fight us in Europe.

The news this morning that one of the January 6 terrorists who stormed the Capitol in an effort to overturn the results of a legitimate election is very troubling to myself and most of the people with whom I serve in the Senate as well as in the lower House. That the person released was also one of the ringleaders of the rebellion is particularly saddening.
Those of us privileged to serve as representatives of the people should not be threatened with violence while carrying out the duties of our job and it is unseemly that there are so many misinformed people who are celebrating the release of the so-called J6 Shaman.

One of the problems the Army has always faced is losing soldiers due to injuries from overwork/overtraining. I'm not sure about "hypersonic" missiles, either. At that high a velocity in atmosphere (even at high altitude), there is a plasma created around such a vehicle at that speed, which prevents targeting, data feed, etc.
How does this thing actually find a target? Does it slow down prior a strike to actually be able to get targeting or use sensors?

282 What has happened to the Navy is treasonous:

Retiring the Ticonderoga Class with no replacement
The money wasted on the LCS and Zumwalt programs
Cutting the LHD and LSD building programs
The new class of SSBNs and SSNs are way behind schedule
The Ford class CVNs are way behind schedule and full of problems
The Navy never developed a replacement for the roles the F-14 filled
The Marines have been stripped of their tanks and heavy artillery
The ready reserve doesn't have enough manpower to man the ships in the reserve fleet in a emergency - let alone some of the power plant technology of those ships is such that the age group of the sailors have never been trained to operate them.

I could go on.

292 The Disney stuff is true - at the last moment, the Disney board members gave many of their governmental powers to Disney as an FU to the state. While it was open and public (and thus Disney claims fully legal), normally you can't give governmental powers away that hamstring the next government.

So, this will be fought in courts and cost Disney and the state a significant legal fee. It's the way Disney chose to fight, so good luck to them in (conservative) Florida courts. It's one of those "was it worth the short term win for the possible long term loss" - but Disney doesn't seem to be thinking far ahead these days...

The whole thing actually doesn't make much sense. It does not seem like an actual practical effective weapon.
Posted by: A face in the crowd......

The last big Chinee hypersonic test that was carried out and touted in the press last year missed the target area by "a couple of dozen miles". Not the target, the target AREA.

It seems that the only way to actually do your targeting at those speeds would be inertial guidance, which is frankly useless for hitting something mobile like an aircraft carrier. But it'd be pretty decent for hitting a large city, especially if it's armed with a multi-megaton warhead. You don't HAVE to be super accurate on a soft target like a city when the blast radius is 30 miles wide.

315 Definitely too cleaver by half.

IIRC back in 2008 O called for civilian force to take some of the national security burden off the military. And 2014, he called for closer U.S. ties to civil groups overseas "to fight against attacks on human rights and freedom of expression." By this time, seems many are all in a "growing crackdown on civil society is a campaign to undermine the very idea of democracy."

Blinken's on the Moderization of American Diplomacy and helping to shape a new glocal economy in ways that strengthen the American middle class. IMO, they're working towards worldwide, "in the streets," engagement that they believe can be controlled by "civil society" without the big bombs to ruin real estate & stuff.

Federal civil service has been gutted, as have much of the states. Notice no more ranking veteran applicants as had been required for decades, or considering test scores & many other factors of other job applicants. While there had been quite a bit of underhanded "name selection" for jobs to beat certain legal job certifications ("certs"), with DIE, CRT, SEL there is no civil service in effect for much of government. Where's Congress? heh

339 As long as the borders are open, having any kind of military is a negative. Nothing is "defended" if you can't manage the basics.

340 It's why - as we learned after the fall of the USSR - the Soviet Union had no serious war plans for invading the United States. They assumed they'd be ground into dogmeat by the army as they made their way across Canada, and if they made it to the US itself then there'd be a gun behind every blade of grass.

They always planned to fight us in Europe.
