First-World Problems...

rug glue.jpg

You all know the problem. A small rug slides on the hardwood floor and people die! It's long past time that Congress regulates this issue, with registration, serial numbers, training and qualification mandates, minimum age before legal use, etc.

But in the meantime, regular Americans have to struggle with the sometimes existential problems associated with the deadly combination of highly polished and slick floors, and inadequate slide resistance on small rugs.

Hell, should we call them "Saturday Night Specials?"

[Addendum] For some reason an earlier version posted instead of the complete opus.

That strip of perforated material is sticky on both sides to hold the floor and the rug.

Of course it doesn't work for more than a few weeks, and every time one moves the rug to clean its stickiness is degraded. I even tried spraying some glue on it, which didn't work for more than a week!

9 My wife still laughs at me because I love to slide on those floors with new socks. I'm guessing most all men do that to some degree up to the point where it might become dangerous and a health concern.

I assume that women who cut their hair and wear mens clothes and pretend to be men immediately begin doing that sort of thing, too. Because that's Science.

Blue is my favorite color, but for home interior, it's red.

I will say, the Knights were very interested in how our alternate Church Lenten dinner runs, and how they manage the food and accommodate more diners, so who knows...maybe I fixed my own FWP for next year. Needless to say, we'll be back at the alt Church this week for the last Lenten dinner, although even without me eating, all my kids and spouse also preferred the food at the other site. I said that was cheating b/c I do help make the food there, and did not here...

104 Bacon averages out. Some of the better brands (Wright comes to mind) have a standard size of 20 or 22 ounces. One of the reasons they used to teach in-your-head arithmetic in grade school was so that you could judge the price of things per ounce, and not just by the package.

139 Well, how rare! A subject upon which I can opine with some experiential authority.

On our house's cement floors, we have area carpets, runners, small, carpet-sample size. It's interesting, as time passes, to see which different materials bear up well. Some turn to dust because they're sitting right on cement floors and we didn't have any pads or that non-skid mesh stuff to protect them.

Thing is, as we head for our third pass at 29, Milady and I find that the edges of rugs really do indeed become greedy and grab at our shuffling toes, trying to take us down. To add to that, our dear madcap Malinois, Daisy, gets excited and races around and sliiiides on the takeoffs, turns, and stops, turning the various carpets sidewise, or curling them up. Straightening up the rugs is a constant exercise.

No point in trying to put the non-skid stuff under the current rugs. Time to throw everything out and start over (except the carpet right at the entry, which the dog has not been able to claw or chew up, and upon which she skiiids with delight without moving it - I'd carpet the whole place in that).

Dissimilar metals ate up a connection on my garden hose to pex line running 50 feet to an outdoor shower. You can't fix that with a new washer. Hack saw, blow torch, an hour later good as new. The fire when the pex inflamed was extinguished pretty quickly.

194 34 I just tripped on a small unsecured throw rug this morning. Had a cup of coffee in one hand and went flying into the corner of a bookcase. Coffee all over the wall and a nice knot on my forehead. First world problems indeed.

If there is even the slightest thing wrong with my Amazon order - late, product problem, etc - I contact them via chat and complain until I get a $5 or $10 credit. We're not friends, we're operating under an agreement where I pay for something and you deliver it per the agreed upon terms.

I doubt I've "paid" for my prime account in ten years or so.

220 These days, I feel immense gratitude when any service or product turns out to be excellent. I always leave good online reviews when it happens.

--

I used to, but now I mostly just leave reviews when there is something significant that I think needs to be noted.

I learned my lesson after leaving a highly detailed review for a piece of electronics equipment that was a POS, and the review got 300+ helpful votes, and the review disappeared only to be replaced with a "most helpful critical review" that is a 3* review having something to do with the color of the piece of equipment.

My review still exists and can still be read, but you have to click on the star ratings and scroll through until you get to page three or four and see it. It still has the most helpful votes but it doesn't matter. The manufacturer spoke to Amazon and got it to not be helpful to potential buyers.

So nope, no more. Not for free. Not unless it's something significant like "this hard drive dock will corrupt your drives", and even then one has to hope someone bothers to read the reviews to see it.

Everything is manipulated and an op.

222 During the interval between services at church, I want to quicky check the progress of the Roomba.

That shouldn't be a problem, just open the app see what progress has been made, less than a minute.

No. The application needs to "update". This isn't an option. And I get less than optimal mobile data reception. And this isn't a modern Big Box church that has public high-speed WiFi for those who need to keep up on the Latest Thing during the service.

Then the application will likely forget its username/password which I didn't bother to memorize either.

Now I can't tell if the floors have been vacuumed.

Posted by: Reuben Hick at March 26, 2023 04:17 PM (YXHzG)

223 Okay, so I have a solution to the problem, if someone else hasn’t mentioned it already. Pick up the little pieces, swish it in lukewarm water with a little soap like a few drops of dawn, rinse, and air dry. The stickiness will return so you can replace them under the rug after sweeping the dust bunnies up. Be good for another couple of weeks.

224 Velcro for the rug.

Posted by: comradearthur at March 26, 2023 05:31 PM (ttOM0)

225 CBD, I guess I have had more luck with those rubberized mats than you have. I don't put down strips of them. I put the mat under the whole rug. That way, wherever you step, you compress the mat a little bit and it grips the floor and the rug.

I have some that have lasted for years with no problems. If they eventually go bad, they're not too expensive to buy a new one, but I haven't had one go bad.
