If Your ONT Isn't Delivered In 60 Minutes Or Less, The Next One Is Free

Question: What do you get when a client calls you at dinnertime and keeps you on the phone for an hour and a half?

Answer: Not an ONT! Or at least not a full one. It's 9 PM ET. Lets see what I can do.

Hey, here's an observation:

Tonight's Fun Link

AI is doing everything these days, why not have it write jokes?

Punchline AI

It's not bad. I see promise.

The wording needs to be cleaned up, but the joke is there, and it's not terrible. Why don't you try it out and post your results in the comments?

Self Interest

Guess what? The philosophical father of the defund the police and prison abolition movements should have been in prison himself.

The Pedophile Behind Prison Abolition

Prison abolition was the brainchild of a child rapist who wanted to legalize pedophilia. He opposed prison because he belonged there and because the inmates would have never let him live if they knew what he was. Had Foucalt ever been imprisoned for his crimes, he would have been beaten to death by even the most hardened criminals: as imprisoned pedophiles often are.

The Left has much to say about America’s original sins and how they define the present, it has far less to say about its own original sins and how they define its movement. Prison abolition, police defunding and similar criticisms of the justice system are built on a child rapist’s conviction that raping children should not be a crime and that no one should be locked up for it.

Huh. Imagine that.

Armed standoff ends after 15 years

OK, this was 7 years ago, but I had never heard the story.

John Joe Gray was arrested in 1999 for assaulting a state trooper during a traffic stop. Gray said it was his God-given right to carry the pistol he had that day, without a concealed handgun license. When the trooper tried to arrest him, Gray got into a scuffle with the officer and bit him. Gray was eventually charged with assaulting a public servant, but he refused to return to court, and instead, armed himself at home. "If they come out after us, bring extra body bags. Those who live by the sword will die by the sword," Gray told ABC News in a 2000 interview. Since the felony charge in 1999, Gray has never left his 47-acres along the banks of the Trinity River between Tool and Trinidad, Texas.

Sadly he's now fighting the IRS over the back taxes he owes.

IMO Obama as the Joker is the best one.

This Does Not Bode Well For The Long Term

Most young men are single. Most young women are not.

Pew Reports 63% of U.S. Men Are Alone

I posted a meme last Friday joking about how glad older people are not to be dating today, but the problem is very real.

This has been the legacy of the “Boys Are Dumb — Throw Rocks at Them” t-shirts and other gear disparaging boys. But it has also been the result of girls-only STEM classes and other things meant to empower girls at the expense of boys. All of these things were meant to “level the playing field.” What they did was create an underclass, made up at least in part by boys who never had an interest in advancing the patriarchy but who also knew they were not welcome anywhere. And so began their spiral into porn and video games because they knew there was no point in leaving the house.

Congratulations feminists, you have your revenge. But because many of the men who did do terrible things are dead, retired, or are simply too self-involved to care, you inflicted that revenge on the closest people available. And in the process, you may have created another generation of men on which to blame things. The solution is not to carpet bomb an entire demographic.

To have the men that women want and society needs, boys and young men need role models — men who can help them make the transition from childhood to adulthood. They do not need another lecture on how toxic they are. I grew up with that, and ultimately, it damaged my relationship with my mother. We need men just as much as we need women. And those men do not need to be hiding out with a gaming console or glued to their phones because they have come to believe that the world does not want them anymore.

The Reactions to Greg Gutfeld’s Super Bowl Ad Display Exactly Why They Are Losing to Him

Look, here’s what I always say, he ain’t funny to me but we see that there’s an audience out there for s*** like that. There’s an audience out there for s*** like Joe Rogan. There’s an audience out there of f***ng-s*****y people. Seventy million people voted for Trump, like Fox News. Those people are going to laugh at s*** we think is f***ed up. So you know, the bottom line is do I want them as my audience? No. I would never want to go on that show. It would never benefit me in any way. All that would happen was I’d try to be on there and you would just get trolls in your Twitter field from here to eternity.

So is he funny? Not to me. But he makes jokes about s*** that I care about, which is gross. I think that whole situation is gross but there is a market for it. The bottom line is there is a market for it.

Cry harder bitch.

A man woke up unable to walk. It turned out vitamin B12 was inactivated in his body after he took laughing gas.

Of course, we're talking massive amounts of laughing gas

He took it at parties for about a year and stopped until he moved to Portland in 2020 and discovered the super-size cylinders containing 20 pounds of nitrous oxide — equivalent to 1,600 0.2-ounce capsules — and costing around $400 each.

As the cylinders weren't available in his area, he'd use 400 to 500 canisters a day for about a year to achieve the same euphoric effects.

52 Men in their 20s are more likely than women in their 20s to be romantically uninvolved, sexually dormant, friendless and lonely. They stand at the vanguard of an epidemic of declining marriage, sexuality and relationships that afflicts all of young America.

And this is NOT because younger women are pairing up with older men.

This is because via hypergamy 80% of the women are sharing 20% of the men.

54 I wasn't going to comment as I have things to do, but WD struck a nerve.

What happened is this:
-Women got "equality," mostly driven by men hating women.
-Divorce became not only normalized, but an aspiration for women.
(Why work on fixing things when you are "equal" and "deserve better")
-Girls are now raised in fatherless families, or reconstituted families where the relationship is secondary to the individual and "fulfillment"
- No one is happy. This is blamed on men.
Result: what we have now.

anyway, my latest great purchase for cooking, even though I am mostly caveman when it comes to the culinary arts, is the "cast iron grill press". Just search it on Amazon or wherever. It is just a flat iron that sits on the food, which is on the skillet.

Mostly I got it to keep bacon from curling up, but I find it useful for hamburger or pork patties. Grills/fries them faster, and reduces grease splatter. And great for keeping the bacon flat. That's all ... direct all donations for this awesome advice to AoS. heh

75 Having a whole shitload of disaffected, alienated men who believe they have nothing left to lose is not a recipe for a peaceful, healthy society.

The matrifocal elements running our society are doubling down on it though.

Heritage America would point disaffected young men to someone like a Jordan Peterson - Soviet America tells them to go die.

For any interested skywatchers, there's going to be another event to see March 27(-28, depending on time zone), a conjunction of Jupiter and Mercury just over the Western horizon around sunset.

Mercury is reaching max eastern elongation, providing the best opportunity to see it, and Jupiter will be right next to it.

I've never been able to see Mercury here due to the tree line. Sun is still too bright by the time it just hovers over the horizon. But if you've got a real flat horizon near due west, you can likely see it.

I think women have been treated badly by the small nuclear family, and the push to employment outside of the family. Our society doesn't have a decent status position for women beyond child bearing age, and the position they did have (marshalling the family and kids, and coordinating with other families in the community) are now considered passe, and the only remaining task of watching out and warning of danger is become known as being a Karen.

Agree. Grandma who helped with the Grandkids USED to be a thing. But with modern transportation, we often moved too far apart for that to work.

Even today... Mom could work, if Grandma could watch the kids.... but, that is not a dynamic that is palatable in our modern society for some (suicidal) reason.

It's easy to make 'em better than McD's.

1. Use a Sourdough English Muffin. Toasted, lightly buttered. (McD's doesn't butter.) 2. Tiny dab each of unsalted butter and bacon grease inside the "egg ring" before you crack the egg n' start the cooking. Lightly salt& pepper the egg, (another thing that McD's doesn't do.) 3. Single slice of REAL American Cheese. 4. A single strip of crispy bacon, snapped cleanly in two. Don't use that nasty Canadian Bacon Ham.

You'll end up with a McMuffin that's truly scrumptious, and you can very distinctly tell the quality improvement over the original. Enjoy!

Too low of a smokepoint, probably. Lot of people stop heating when it starts smoking. Is it gummy? that means incomplete polymerization. You may have to strip it down before it goes rancid.

I found the most reliable way to strip cast iron down to the grey iron is to cook a mess of tomatoes in it and leave it in the cast iron overnight. Otherwise build a fire of sticks in it or run it through the self cleaning cycle in your oven.

But the current edition of the Mustang is, I think, the best looking since the first.

It is a faithful tribute to the 1969/1970 Mach 1, but more refined and with even better lines, in every way. Local watering hole has a regular with a '70 Mach 1, and you park a 2022 next to it, and you'll see the similarities, and the differences.

The new ones are Masterpieces. They got it RIGHT, and they'll be classics, far, far into the future.

Sorry I was busy, late supper, trouble with the folks (clean up on aisle 5!), and then I was so dirty, I took a shower on a Thursday night.

Anyway, I saw Patrick McGoohan and Columbo were mentioned above. Patrick and Peter Falk were big buds, and McGoohan holds the record for the most number of guest murderer appearances, at four. He also directed a good number of Columbo episodes as well. Some overlap, he directed and murdered at the same time.

McGoohan's four murders were spread out, 2 during the '70s run, and two during the '90s run.

Contrive to have "a friend" let Little take the car for a spin.

If you've got a Cop friend, arrange to have a "traffic stop", and instead of a ticket, the cop hands over a Birthday Card with the Good News.

The fear and adrenaline rush will maybe help remind Little that he's driving a Hand Grenade?

And the thrill might remind him that not ALL cops are necessarily, exclusively, relentlessly, "bastards".

Now, Jack Cassidy and Robert Culp were 3-time murders, all during the '70s. Culp played the father of the murderer in a '90s episode.

I love McGoohan and he did a good job in his various murderer roles, but the crown has to go to Jack Cassidy. Had Cassidy lived, he would've probably done some more in the '90s and held the record.

He was perfect to play the smary, oh so-sophisticated but utterly debauched cad type. A thin veneer of manners and taste covering a debauched narcissist.

Anyway, here's to Patrick McGoohan, Jack Cassidy, and Peter Faulk.

It was sad, one time he hit the corner of a shed and broke off one of the posts. I heard him mutter under his breath, "Dammit, I just can't do anything any more...."

It was cast iron. And it's holding. It was more malleable cast iron, more easily weldable (but not for a novice). I found some nickel rods I had (well, Ni-55, an alloy of 55% nickel, rest Fe and traces of other stuff). The nickel keeps it from cracking (you can look up the metallurgy of that -- prevents Martensite formation, from all that damned carbon).

Hell, since I sort of bragged, it will break off soon, I imagine.

Oh yes, preheating of cast iron is usually desirable. Getting it dull red, that high of a temperature, I don't know. I seem to remember maybe 800F, but that varies, IIRC.

Now, there are several types of cast iron, which I can't remember enough to try to tell, but there is one type I remember, white cast iron, which is basically un-weldable. Shit will crack no matter what you do.

There are some casting configurations, like pulleys (round, with spokes) that are pretty much un-weldable as well. Damn thing will crack at the spoke every time -- it has to do with the stresses due to the shape during cooling.

Now, the Ni-55 rods claim pre-heating is not necessary, but I always preheat. Get it spit-sizzling hot at least.

Oh, and nickel rods are getting expensive as hell. $50/lb+, and that's in bull, 10 lb containers.

They sell 1 lb containers, and you'll pay a lot more than $50 for those.

Behold that phase diagram of the system Fe-C, ahron and carbon, called steel and then cast iron:

https://tinyurl.com/2gggqwj5

That ain't simple at all. All the vagaries of steel, but not all are 'splained by that. Ahron and the "alloy" with carbon exist in many solid-state phases at different temperatures.

Note that "cast iron" is iron with a hell of a lot of carbon in it, over 2%. You can look up the exact value.

Austenite, pearlite, cementite, lebeburite.

"Marensite" is quenched austenite. That stuff will be rock hard, and brittle. Heat treating and all that for harndess is all about getting the right ratios of martensite.

Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (Mzdiz) at March 24, 2023 02:32 AM (Mzdiz)

431

Now, if'n you think Fe-C is complicated, start adding other alloying elements in like Nickel, Chromium, Moly-be-damned, etc, etc.

Now, when them get in the right proportions, you make the Austenite phase stable at room temperature. Some of that is stainless steel, austenitic stainless steel.

Oh, and just reading some other stuff. With the high nickle rods, what claim preheating isn't necessary, good practice recommends heating to at least 100F.

So, with nickel rods, "spit-sizzling hot" is the ticket.

Another sorta brag welding story. I welded a stainless steel applicator (sprayer) tank. 500 gal. The thing was made out of two main pieces, welded seam down the middle (and end caps welded on, too).

That middle seam sprung a leak. All those corrosive chemicals ate a little hole right down that bead for a foot or so.

I welded that. And it held, didn't leak. Me and Daddy worked all afternoon one day, when I was in my 30s on that. We patched that seam with about a 6" strip of stainless, and I welded that patch in. Now, stainless' thermal conductivity is low, and it will buck like hell when welding thing strips. So Daddy had the idea of putting the patch piece on, then getting chain, and tightening it down with chain tighteners to keep it from bucking.

That worked. I welded it with stick, using 3/32" 309L-16 rods. DC, not AC.

Now, that patch I made didn't leak. I was proud.

I did have all kinds of carbide precipitation. That's what the 309L-16s compensate for. Or try to. The "L" means low carbon. The 309 means extry chrome (and nickle), the idea is to add more chrome to make up for what precipitates out, and the L means added no more carbon to the filler to make it worse.

The problem with the carbide precipitation is the HAZ, the heat-affected zone right next to the weld. This area doesn't melt, but gets very hot, and that causes all sorts of phase changes and shit.

Too much carbide precipitation there, and you lose your corrosion resistance in the HAZ. It will rust and spring a leak right next to the bead.
