My friend and fellow Cob CBD is always looking out for you Morons. I'm sorry to announce the following: The Saturday Morning Coffee Break perpetuates racism.
Is coffee racist? How drinking coffee perpetuates white supremacy
Created by Black people for Black people—and now a pillar of white supremacist capitalism. If you consume coffee, you are helping an industry built on racism. If you’re a person of color, you know what I’m talking about. You walk into a new coffee shop and your senses are overwhelmed with whiteness and you get the glare from the Karens. The white hipster barista lines herself up between you and the bathrooms, ready to tell you non-customers aren’t welcome.
AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update. Prayer Requests: 2/24 – Legally Sufficient asked for the Horde’s prayers as she undergoes total knee replacement surgery on 2/27. She asks for strength and continued faith. She also asked for prayers for her husband, and asks that God would provide him with strength and patience as he helps nurse her through this.
3/16 Update: Surgery went very well and there is very good progress in healing and movement. She sends her heartfelt thanks to the Horde for their prayers on their behalf. She and her husband felt lifted in prayer during those moments when they needed support the most. Her husband was an excellent partner in healing, who now looks forward to spring fishing (when and if spring ever comes)! 2/25 – J asked for prayers for a new trap-shooting club that is starting. He asks that it is successful for all the adults and children involved and doesn’t get attention outside of their pro-hunting community (if you know what I mean). 2/25 – Dr_No sends an update and thanks for the prayers for healing for his daughter Megan. We had prayed for her when she was going through chemotherapy for colon cancer 2 years ago. She just tested again, and is still cancer-free! He prays for blessings and healing for those still dealing with illness and loss. 2/25 – Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd sends prayers of thanks for his daughter’s turnaround. She had become alienated from her parents and from God, and now has come back more toward faith and is more kind and concerned toward them. This has also helped his wife’s faith, too, which has been struggling due to these troubles with their daughter. 3/1 – Inogame asked for prayers. He had come to the Horde after his wife miscarried 2 years ago, and appreciated our prayers and kindness. They were blessed with a little girl later that year. Now they are in the same situation. They have lost another baby and need prayers against the sorrow and depression. 3/7 - Pookysgirl sends a prayer of thanks that Pooky has been approved for SSDI benefits, and designated as 100% disabled by the VA, which doubles his monthly benefits. This means they are not in such a desperate financial situation, and it marks the end of a two+ year battle with bureaucracy. 3/11 – Jasonj asked for prayers for Barbara, his wife, to be added to the list. She had back surgery recently, and is healing well, but has a long road ahead. Also please add Alex, his son, who is a quadriplegic with a serious addiction to pain meds. 3/11 – Free Tibet asked for prayers for his friend JR, who is undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer (neuroendocrine version). Thanks to the Horde for everything. 3/15 – Fenelon Spoke asks for prayers for the church she servers – that if it’s God’s will that their financial problems might be resolved through one of several options, so they can continue to be open to the Glory of God, the lifting up of Jesus Christ, and the support of the church community, some of whom have attended there for decades. She thanks the people who have prayed. She also asks for prayers for FenSon, who is having interviews for a college summer internship on 3/21. Prayers that he does his best and that someone would be open to his skills and interests. And prayers are still appreciated for Jessie, their dear church organist, for complete healing.
3/23 Update: There is hope that an organization may buy some of the church’s land, which would help their financial problems. Please keep praying for God’s will do be done in that situation. Also, Jessie is doing better. She hopes to be able to play some for Easter. Prayers are also needed for Ray, who broke his hip and is in rehab. 3/15 – NJ asked for prayers for his wife Christina. She had surgery in December which resulted in CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome) in her right foot. The pain is interfering with her daily activities and preventing her from sleeping properly. 3/15 – Half Dozen asked for prayers from the Horde. One of her adult sons was diagnosed with a brain tumor. They are still evaluating him to decide next steps. It will probably involve brain surgery.
3/19 Update: Her son is in the hospital, and scheduled for surgery to remove the tumor that is at the point where the spinal cord connects into the brain. They have determined that the tumor has not spread to other areas of his body. Thanks for the prayers and friendship. 3/15 – Tcn in AK, Hail to the Thief asked for prayers for DH, who goes under the knife on Friday to remove an old stim from his spinal column. This will allow him to have an MRI, to figure out what to do about his 3 collapsed disks. Prayers, but optimistic prayers at this point. 3/16 – Cybersmythe continues to request prayers for his friend D.C., an occasional reader of the AoSHQ, who is in the hospital after having a stroke and some other health issues. 3/18 – Megthered asks that the Horde would keep her and her family in our thoughts and prayers. Her husband has to have open heart aortic valve replacement and her daughter has been diagnosed with lymphoma. They are being treated at Ohio State University and the family has rallied around them. 3/18 – gp asks for prayers for Al, who is homebound, needy, and lonely. He also asks for prayers for Brian, who is afflicted by the horrible maladies of old age. 3/20 – Ladyl asked for prayers for her son, who was hospitalized for a serious infection that happened after a minor injury. 3/22 – Sal asked for prayers for her- sister’s ex, who became very ill while away from home (at his daughter’s destination wedding). He is in ICU with sepsis and kidney function problems. For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. Back from walking and getting donuts. Spring is having trouble getting sprung here, plenty of fresh snow on the mountains right next to me. Freezing overnight for the next 4-5 days still. Gas is up to 3.45 and diesel 3.99.

I met a friend over at Houndstooth coffee shop in Austin. There were over a dozen people in the shop. Each and every person, on both sides of the counter had blue eyes. (this was not a planned rally or Fed Op)

In happy news at the TiFW casa, Rebecca continues to improve every day. She goes for her 6-week checkup on Thursday, and we expect she will be given the ally clear to return to school next Monday.
In even happier news, that will mean that I can finally go back upstairs and sleep in my bed with Mr. TiFW - I've been sleeping downstairs since we got home in order to help Rebecca if she got up in the middle of the night. She seems to be holding her own now.
Sure is gonna be nice to sleep on something other than a thin mattress on an older bed!

He was selling off his collection of vintage LPs at the swap meet. It turns the Divestment movement had prevented capital investment in his new organic coffee farm.
It gets worse, too. The donkey went to Tijuana to go into show business. It's just tragic.

Tough week due to family drama (Mom decided she hated her apartment and moved to a rental home), but Reconciliation last Saturday was great. Not only did I get a few things off my chest, I was able to resolve some long-standing points of friction with my wife that were basically the results of repeated misunderstandings.
Which is why they call it Reconciliation.

According to the DOE, the new energy efficiency standards will save Americans about $1.5 billion annually and curb carbon dioxide emissions by 106 million metric tons over three decades.
All of this is absolute nonsense. With inflation and critical attacks on the energy infrastructure, predicting the "annual savings" by the time these hypothetical A/C units are adopted in sufficient mass, is absolute folly. Like predicting the temperature two weeks from now.
The 106 million metric tons over thirty years is just as outlandish since they have vowed to have us all on Green Energy five to ten years from now.

Just curious, if regulations cause appliances to be under powered, wont people just buy more powerful units? The old 50,000 BTU window unit could cool 100 sq ft (making that up), now just get a 75,000 BTU unit that cools 100 sq feet. Sure it costs more, but that's the whole Democrat plan.

I now have a vehicle with a present and fully functioning drivers side door. I did half this winter in my jeep cherrokee that my son tore the door off wheeling back in 08 as my daily driver. Finally got the doorhandle fixed on the new 2004 Taco at work.
That jeep is a head turner I tell you. Never does anyone miss it in a snow storm.

Speaking of watching old TV shows husband and I have been watching "The Bob Newhart Show" on Prime. We are about halfway through season 1 and although I remember watching the show in the 1970s, I haven't remembered any of the episodes we've seen thusfar.
We quit watching episodic TV many years ago because it was all so bad. I suspected I was giving too much credit to the old shows just because of the contrast between them and the modern dreck. Definitely not. Newhart's show is absolutely hilarious. Sometimes I laugh out loud which is unusual for me.

Y'all I could use prayers for wisdom & patience. Tomorrow my mom will be coming to live with me. I think she finally understands just how big a production it would be to fix all the problems in her house. (Or she did yesterday, she may not remember it by tomorrow.) That plus the memory issues that suddenly appeared a few months ago, and it's time.
We get along very well, and as my life has been lonely this last year, I'll be glad to have her here. But it's not a big place, I work at home most of the time, and it's going to be an adjustment for both of us.

I think this might be the key in 2024, too. I am hoping a lot of people are drawing near to God even if they don't realize it yet. We might get a miracle in the election, and that miracle is the only thing that will get Trump or Desantis into the office and possibly moving to remedy some of what we've seen float to the surface.

You're assuming that the Russian and Ukrainian orthodox churches are "Christian", but I think they're both just government bureaucracies full of political appointees and deeply immersed in political issues. As such, they're parties to this war just like all the other government functionaries on both sides. This always happens when the church becomes political - I don't condone it, but I'm hardly surprised by it either.

Putin has what we used to call a border dispute. It's endemic in that part of the world. The maps move every generation. Not sure why we have to treat Soviet Admin borders as if they are immutable and eternal.
It is interesting that our aid to Ukraine was conditioned on them passing gay marriage, though. Just like our Afghan allies had to swear allegiance to the rainbow icon.

I think we all feel it - a sense of unease, of something being askew. I know the Church feels it and it's interesting to watch the Great Reveal take place as the traitors within identify themselves. At the same time, the faithful are coming home. We had a snowstorm that closed the schools on Ash Wednesday but people fought their way to the Mass in near-record numbers.
Something profound is happening.

The crazy (ha) part is to realize that legislative actions like JFK's Community Mental Health Act closing insane asylums and forcing crazy people back into their local communities and LBJ's banning of Medicare/Medicaid dollars from being spent in facilities with more than X patients - both bills written by majority (D) congress, btw - forced the *genetics* of the crazy people back into the local pools.

I grew up in a mixed race community. Also a very large Jewish community. It was a true melting pot of cultures. I never felt racism or anti semitism. Instead of progressing to a kinder gentler society, we have gone backwards to segregation and tribalism. It was not conservatives that caused this.

The "crazy" never left the gene pool. Plenty of severe illness shows up in the mid to late 20s. A lot of the illness (psychotic type) we're seeing today is being activated by drug use. And, there were lots of babies born in mental institutions who were adopted. Some became very ill.

Notice there is no video. No pictures of refugees, dead soldiers, pows. It is like we aren't allowed to see the incredible human suffering which must be going on. People would start demanding the parties come to an agreement. Several parties including Netanyahu and the Chinese have offered to broker something but their was no response.

What is interesting to me is how blatant people are in what they say and do. In a dispute over church jurisdictions between Christians who nominally share the same faith, for one side to burn down sacred icons and desecrate altars tell me they've placed their flag higher than the cross.
To have people who claim to be humane, to feel for the downtrodden and oppressed to also rejoice that so much Russian killin' is goin' on and we've totes outsourced it to disposable Ukrainians is just odd. You could never imagine anyone saying that before.

Growing up as a military brat, we didn't see skin color as "different". It was more like seeing someone with a different hair or eye color. It was a difference in appearance but the people themselves weren't different. Pretty much Every one got along as equals. What made a real difference was the rank of a person. So the left has managed to revive real racism and they are well on their way to segregation and apartheid if it doesn't all burn down before then.

I thought at first he was kidding or trying to hide it, maybe he was illegal or something but after a long while I got to know him a bit better and he said everything about Jamaica was absolutely terrible and that the Caribbean islands in general were terrible places to live if you were a native. And that was the end of the subject as far as he was concerned.

NPR suffered a sea change thirty years ago, as the Clinton era began. Surprised nobody mentions it.
Until then, All Things Etc were fairly brief news bookends to a broadcast day made up mostly of local classical and/or jazz programming, harking back to the original political reason for public broadcasting, the removal of FCC requirements for all stations to serve all market sectors. Local programming was usually pretty good, and the left wing touch was light. LBJ's station-owning pals were free to pursue the ad money available in Top 40 and Top Country formats.
With the Clintons, NPR National became the nation's high school newspaper, with editorial content dictated by the principal's office, and music took a back seat. Public support has been dwindling ever since.
