The Morning Report — 3/23/23

rondedorfman.jpg

Good morning kids. Frankly, I don't know why I'm covering the battle between Trump and DeSantis since – along with the nation's continued headlong plunge toward a totalitarian dystopia (world-ending coronal mass ejections notwithstanding) it is a lead pipe cinch that the Democrats will attempt to steal the 2024 election, and all things considered, likely get away with it. Yet again. For the Kurts and Karens around here that insist Joey Sponge-Brain Shits-Pants' 82 million votes were actually cast by 82 million legal registered voters, I give you this article about a detailed audit of the data, the conditions on the ground, combined with the massive amount of circumstantial and anecdotal evidence that would at a minimum cause any reasonable non-Kurt or Karen to raise a Mr. Spock eyebrow to the summit of K2.

But be that as it may, for those of us who think that Trump's past his prime, is too old, made too many mistakes, hate his childish name-calling, etc. etc. and are pinning their hopes on Ron DeSantis as the golden boy who, ironically enough, will carry the movement to restore America that Trump started, maybe we should pause for a second to reconsider that. It might be a bit premature to say he screwed the pooch but for sure "Meatball Ron" might have shot himself in the foot, and on a matter that is far from trivial to say the least.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis toughened his stance on Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling Putin a “war criminal” who should be “held accountable” for the invasion of Ukraine, just days after he claimed the Ukraine war is not a “vital national interest.”

DeSantis angered Republican hawks, Never Trumpers, and neocons less than two weeks ago when he characterized the Ukraine-Russia conflict as a “territorial dispute” that is not a “vital” U.S. interests. . .

. . . DeSantis also said his critics “mischaracterized” his use of the phrase “territorial dispute.”

“Well, I think it’s been mischaracterized,” DeSantis said when asked if he regretted using that language. “Obviously, Russia invaded (last year) — that was wrong. They invaded Crimea and took that in 2014 — That was wrong.” . . .

. . . When asked if he would support any efforts to hold Putin accountable for war crimes, DeSantis affirmed his belief that Putin is a “war criminal,” but fell short of endorsing any trials by the international criminal court (ICC).

“I think he is a war criminal,” DeSantis told Morgan. “This ICC … we have not done that in the U.S. because we’re concerned about our soldiers or people being brought under it. So, I don’t know about that route, but I do think that he should be held accountable.”

[Tucker] Carlson seemingly responded to DeSantis’s tougher stance on Wednesday, criticizing politicians who cave to media pressure and regurgitate “childish slogans” like “Vladimir Putin is a war criminal.

Carlson said:

Welcome to Tucker Carlson Tonight. Let’s enter fantasyland for a moment. Let’s pretend for a sec that our country had a news media that was interested in bringing you the news. Not in lecturing you about your moral inferiority “You’re so bad” or lying to you and transparently obvious ways. “January 6 was an insurrection guys” or even in forcing you to repeat whatever childish slogan they’ve come up with this week. “Vladimir Putin is a war criminal.” Okay. “transwomen are women.” All right, “say it or else.”

Ultimately, DeSantis believes Ukraine will prevail in the war against Russia.

Ugh. Just fucking ugh.

Before people start replying "But Trump did this and Trump did that!" I'm not interested in that right now. We know what Trump did, didn't do and should've done. I'm interested in how the DeSantis boosters can defend this kind of flip-flopping from someone who is supposed to be the greatest thing, well, since Trump. And saying that is not a defense of Trump nor an implication that I support Trump. Before this, and certainly before the Bragg-a-douche-ious attempt to toss him into the Garland Archipelago, I was mostly consigned to throw my support to DeSantis. But no matter how you slice it, this kind of "let-me-be-clear" wishy-washiness is not good.

The fact of the matter is DeSantis was right on target when he said this was a border dispute. And yes, Putin is a war criminal, a thug and generally a not-nice person. And I feel sorry for the innocent people on both sides of that disputed border, which has been disputed for a few hundred years if not longer, who are suffering and dying. But unless and until Putin launches a nuke on the USA or directly attacks our actual national security interests, I could care fuck-all about Ukraine, meaning its corrupt government and banks which are tied at the hip to the ruling class on both sides of the mythical aisle right here. And in fact, I'd be heavily inclined to look the other way if he actually did launch a nuke on D.C.

The other fact of the matter is the base of the Republican Party in the main does not support our sending money to Ukraine, does not support sending troops to Ukraine, and a majority of Americans fear a potential nuclear war over Ukraine.

The other other fact of the matter is Donald Trump feels the same way about this. Unequivocally I might add.

Trump . . . [argued] that our commitment in the region was simply not in America’s strategic interest.

Retaining his transactional view of diplomacy, Trump spoke like a dealmaker by asserting that it is Europe’s responsibility to pay “far more than [the United States].” He also promised that, as president, he would end the war “in 24 hours.” Given Trump’s foreign policy achievements while president—ranging from North Korea, where he got Kim Jong Un to agree to a nuclear ceasefire, to Afghanistan, where he set into motion the end of a nearly two decades-long conflict, to Ukraine itself, where Russia ceased aggressive maneuvers in the region while he was in office—there is reason to take his claim as something more than bombast . . .

. . . For his part, DeSantis offered his best Trump impersonation on foreign policy. The Florida governor’s insistence that the United States should not become “further entangled in a territorial dispute between Ukraine and Russia” at least seemed to incite the ire of David Frum, Bill Kristol, and Jonah Goldberg. At any rate, DeSantis’ supporters have pointed to these reactions as proof that their favored candidate has fully adopted MAGA noninterventionism, a claim ardently contested by Trump supporters who argue the Florida governor’s unexceptional record, which pretty much toed the establishment line on foreign policy, as well as the questionable personal ties some of DeSantis’ closest acolytes have to Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Given that nothing in DeSantis’ background, prior to becoming governor, screams populist or nationalist bonafides on foreign policy, it is important to read DeSantis’ statement carefully. Criticisms from neoconservative pundits aside, many of those mobilizing behind DeSantis’ presidential campaign, including Paul Ryan, Karl Rove, the Murdoch family, and Jeb Bush, might be called neoconservatives or neocon-adjacent. With that consideration in mind, DeSantis’ statements seem far less radical. For instance, his argument that the United Should not become “further entangled in a territorial dispute between Ukraine and Russia” could well be read to mean that the current situation, in which well over $100 billion of U.S. taxpayer dollars has already been expended, is acceptable under a would-be DeSantis doctrine. Not too long ago, Biden himself said he would be interested in meeting with Putin to find “a way to end the war”—suggesting an approach not unlike that advocated by DeSantis.

. . . Finally, the telltale sign that DeSantis may not be serious about spearheading a fundamental shift from the uniparty consensus was his usage of the term “blank check.” The phrase, used in the context of critiquing the Biden Administration’s wasteful management of the conflict to date (“The Biden administration’s virtual ‘blank check,’ funding of this conflict for ‘as long as it takes’ . . .  distracts from our country’s most pressing challenges"), has repeatedly been offered by other leading Republican establishment figures . . . In sharp contrast, the “blank check” language is totally absent from Trump’s statement, or from any public statement the 45th president has issued so far about the Ukrainian conflict. Instead, what we see are statements written in his recognizable cadence. Unlike DeSantis’ somewhat ambiguous language, Trump’s statements exhibit his trademark authenticity, and are to the point: totally unequivocal about where he stands on the conflict. That level of precision is ultimately missing from any other candidates’ statement—including the Florida governor’s.

Though it is undeniably good that DeSantis finds it necessary to pay lip service to noninterventionist strategies in order to win over the base, there is still cause to question whether his allegiances are truly aligned with the MAGA base or with the war lobby that remains hellbent trying to involve us deeper in yet another winless war in Eastern Europe.

This essay seems to have been written before DeSantis sat down with Pierced Organ (a.k.a. Piers Morgan). So this, coupled with the flip-flop on "territorial dispute" and Putin as a "war criminal" should give Team Ron boosters something to think about. Citing Trump's negatives – and believe me, he has them in spades – does not erase, excuse nor eliminate the ones that DeSantis has. Trump is of course a known quantity. DeSantis is gradually becoming one, and his strongest positives are in his record of resisting the Chinese COVID lockdowns and maskings, beating back the transexual perverts and critical race hustlers, as well as creating an environment that has attracted fleeing blue staters to breathe freely in Florida by the thousands.

But in the run-up to his officially announcing his candidacy, some of these negatives about who his backers are are coming to the fore. Worse, the triangulation/ equivocation/ diffidence/ mixed-messaging – hell, let's be honest here, flip-flopping – on his characterization of Ukraine is troubling to say the least.

Yes, Trump has his baggage and his negatives. But that does not mean that DeSantis doesn't have any. Is this gaffe a one-off? We shall see.

Known knowns vs unknown knowns, or whatever the hell Rummy called it.

Meanwhile, while we're all flinging poo at each other over this, the institutionalized cheating that fucked us all over in 2020 across six crucial states has yet to be dismantled.

There were many 94% turnout precincts in 2020. Unpossible.

16 DeSantis did not flip flop at all. In fact, in that same interview, he *reiterated* that we should not send any more money to the Ukraine, which is the only important thing that he said the first time around. Adding some "Putin bad" fluff (which isn't wrong) doesn't negate or constitute a flip flop of "stop sending money", particularly when he repeated it.

36 Engaging in war does not make one a war criminal.

In fact, there is no such thing and should never be such a thing as a war criminal.

That only civilizes war and makes men inevitably far too fond of it. War, by its very nature, is the destruction and abandonment of civilization and all its rules.

See also our perpetual war machine that hasn't rested since 1945, putting men into battle continually since then, infatuated with finding ever more conflicts to join.

38 Voting is mandatory in Australia with a fine for levied for not voting and they have about 97% turnouts as I recall.

Up until about 20 years ago, Canadian news media used to crow about us having 75-80% voter turnout while the lazy anti-democracy Americans only had 65% voter turnout. [They've shut up since our turnouts have dropped into the 60s now too -- probably for the same reasons yours have dropped since 1965 if you get my drift.]

Sweden in 2022 was 84%.

No 103% voter turnouts, I note, anywhere no matter how small and homogenous the country.

Bilateral transactions for the win. The greatest American conceit since the end of WWII - and the cause of most of our foreign policy failure during that period - is the lust for multilateralism. We can't make a deal with Jordan or Saudi Arabia, we have to make a deal with the whole Middle East. We can't make a deal with Japan or Korea, we have to make a deal with the whole of the Asia Pacific. We can't make a deal with India, we have to make a deal with all of South Asian and Australia.

I get it. A lot of people blame the complex web of treaties and guarantees between two parties for triggering WWI. But the problem wasn't bilateralism, the problem there was secrecy. Make your deals in public and all is well. If you make a good deal, others can join up if desired. This is exactly how the Abraham Accords worked. This is how the refactoring of Asian trade agreements worked. The USMCA was the only major multilateral deal I can think of, and it replaced another multilateral deal.

It's easy to do. People die in war and sometimes a *lot* of people die in war. But defining "war criminal" is hard unless you accept a certain truth that makes a lot of people uncomfortable: it's victor's justice.

The winner, after the fact, gets to determine what was "illegal" and extract vengeance for it. There are certain things that are generally agreed upon as "crimes against humanity" - things like genocide or the indiscriminate slaughter of non-combatants in a non-total war or the forcible use of a population in medical experimentation - but these aren't necessarily "war crimes." They can be an often are, but war is not actually a prerequisite for them.

If I had to pick a target for "crimes against humanity" charges right now, I'd pick Anthony Fauci well before I picked Vladimir Putin.

Given how f'd up things are these days I can honestly imagine neither Trump nor DeSantis being on the GOP ticket in 24. The rift here between supporters is probably mirrored elsewhere, including Congress where our political class will decide who's best for us dirty, little people who dare to think we have a voice.

IMO the cost/benefit of bitching about it is zero. However the cathartic value is likely immeasurable.

80 Here we go.

"All our guys suck and are sellouts. We can only support a candidate that agrees with me 100%."

NATO membership aside, I reiterate, if Ukraine is not worth going to war with Russia over, then neither is Lithuania. Or Estonia. Or any of those other minor Eastern European countries.

We can only expect our NATO allies to act the same toward minor members of the alliance as they do to minor members of the EU. Like shit.

Does anyone actually think France and Germany will go to war over Estonia? They'll find a loophole. They'll say something like, "Estonia didn't meet the 2% GDP requirement in defense spending and therefore reneged on their membership dues so we are not obligated to help those who wouldn't help themselves."

France and Germany aren't meeting that target but can't you just hear them say it? Austria and Poland say, "yes. I can hear them saying that."

I would prefer that we never have to see the outright disintegration of NATO in the face of Russian aggression. Lets try to stop them in Ukraine, K?

I have dogs and so does my neighbor. She also pet sits so she will have her two pups plus about five more at any given time. I am ok with that. To each his own and we have large yards.

My backyard is completely fenced in and adjacent to hers.

It bothers her that the dogs bark at each other but we both step in and do not let the barking last much at all. The most unrelenting barker is one of her terriers. This little one wont stop and i know it stresses my neighbor. I think part of the reason is that she doesn't want any neighbor to complain because it would affect her pet sitting side business.

We havent had a neighbor complain ever. I have lived here over twenty years and always had dogs.

Well neighbor wants me to notify her if I am letting my dogs out and also when they are in.

Sigh. I have dogs of different ages and one with Cushings who needs to go out frequently.

I find her demands to be too much. What do you all think? Am I being uncooperative?

Which is a lot of money - more than I'll ever have - but it's not *that* much in the grand scheme of things. One of the things I was unhappiest learning about during the Trump era was how cheap most of our politicians are to buy. I was envisioning tens of millions at a time to get shit done. It isn't. It's tens of thousands. It's nothing. The cost of a US power player is surprisingly affordable. Some like Clinton and apparently Biden are fairly expensive, but most aren't. It's really depressing. I'd like to think that selling your country down the river would demand a higher price tag, but it doesn't.

Right, which is why they will never define it.

"Putin is an asshole and I think he and his ruling party and country at large should be punished for this action. The only way to extract punishment is to fight him and win, because after we win and conquer Russia in retribution, we can put a rope around his neck and kill him for what he's done. 127 I think my biggest problem with those pushing Ron DeSantis is this: What polls are showing he can even get within 20% of Trump? That a 0% chance of winning.
Imagine someone pushing Nikki like they're pushing Ron--same realistic odds.
And that's fine to push a no-chance of it's to sharpen and push the winner toward more conservative positions.

But Ron isn't attacking Trump from the right-- and we have had enough fights that Trump isn't conservative. He's attacking Trump from the center, from the NeverTrump, from the Left's criticisms--too brash, too controversial, needs more moderate positions, etc.
Note this very well: Ron is most definitely not saying, "I'll build the wall, I'll cut immigration, I'll cut spending, I'll eliminate programs, I'll cut departments, I'll fire bureaucrats, I'll impeach leftist judges, I'll fire every J6 prosecutor and their bosses, I'll gut the FBI down to a broom closet."

137 Which is a lot of money - more than I'll ever have - but it's not *that* much in the grand scheme of things.

I wonder if the price to buy a politician is so low because they find *other* ways to compensate. For example, a corporate donor chips in $20K to a pol for some favors down the line. In return, the pol gets some insider information for increasing his own investments 10 fold. So on the surface, it seems pretty cheap, but underneath are shadier transactions that show huge swings in wealth in favor of the politician.

139 Trump declared the Iraq war was misbegotten as he was jeered by the 15 establishment stiffs on the stage and the audience. He never backtracked. DeSantis utters a true statement about Ukraine, gets establishment flak, and torches Putin.

We're all engaging in this delusion of electoral politics and business as usual -- me included, at least today -- when the country has been overthrown and our elections are officially rigged.

I wish Trump and DeSantis can see this. Neither is going to be allowed to win.

Recommend she puts an anti-bark collar on her dogs. I'm not joking. If it bothers her, she can stop her dogs from barking any time she wants. And it will have the added benefit of removing the incentive for yours to bark.

The conclusion is wrong, but the finding isn't entirely wrong. Trump did trigger a crisis within the government and did force them to consolidate power and go to war against the public out in the open. This is commented on a lot. It was a "great unmasking" as it is often described.

What I find preposterous is not that evidence, but the conclusion that this somehow stifled a "conservative renaissance" that was just waiting to kick off, and that it wouldn't have happened under Hillary. It would not have happened out in the open under Hillary and it might have taken longer since they would have been interested in maintaining fictions that they were not interested in maintaining in the war against Trump, but the massive consolidation of power and tyranny would have happened regardless - albeit with less public clarity. We'd be worse off, not better, today had she won. Trump didn't stifle a conservative movement, he unleashed one. And the state reacted to it by destroying the remnants of this country and doing so out in the light of day.

Financial worker associations lobby, um, vigorously against any changes, and when politicians think through the consequences, they begin to go pale. It is understandable — to an extent — to be worried about voting for something that would put so many lawyers out of business.

When *biden was a mere Senator he claimed to be the "poorest member" of that chamber. His tax returns during that time claimed a net worth of something like $50 or $60K IIRC. His net worth climbed, but not drastically until he was Obama's VP. It then suddenly jumped into the 100's of thousands and in 2016 it was around $396K.

Reasonable enough.

However upon leaving public service in 2016 and no longer required to make public his returns it is rumored to have jumped into the 10's of millions of dollars. In 2019 his return claimed a net worth of $917K

Yet... in 2017 and 2018 the *biden's returns showed multi-million dollar incomes.

Any normal person would likely have been audited.

The first diversion was potentially indicting Trump. Most people, almost obsequiously and in a servile fashion took the entire Biden corruption off the front page- which is the real intention of that action. The second diversion is with Trump-DeSantis. It is also another attempt to divide and conquer. One might believe that otherwise intelligent people would have figured this out by now. Especially given the entire objective of the Democrats is to divide and conquer. They know divided we are much weaker and easily ruled. Ventilators, withholding treatment, isolation, etc. Can't do anything because there's no vaccine, and nothing else is FDA approved as treatment. Oh look, a vaccine! Now you can't do anything else because anything else is not treatment.

It opened a lot of eyes to the hypocritic oath.

203 198 Local Catholic (Jesuit really) grade school in liberal area started using this SEL b/s. The lib parents are shocked and dismayed. Even being a good liberal isn't enough, your kids will be turned against you, though I doubt they recognize the danger since it's not coming from the bad orangeman. Stupidity or malice (or both) is behind the Jesuits' decision to bring this (anti-catholic) religious ideology into the school.

I am bothered that Trump called DeSantis an "average governor" and would like to know who he considers to be an excellent governor?
Kemp?

What's funny is that Trump was mad at Kemp because he felt Kemp opened up his state too early.

When it didn't happen then, and didn't happen yesterday, and won't happen today, it's obvious that higher ups have said "you can't embarrass us thus badly, back down."

And the "mystery witness" was Cohens ex-lawyer, who Bragg had tried to keep quiet, who insisted on coming before the Grand Jury. He told them, in essence "If you send this case to trial, this is the testimony I will give and it will blow this entire idiotic case out of the water."

The reason to vote isn't the national level which, even if we get a Republican president, won't mean much because the administrative state and Congress have decided to simply consolidate power in DC no matter what. It'll take decades to fix along with a miracle out of SCOTUS that completely overturns Chevron to start, if it ever gets fixed.

The reason to vote is the state level. Making red states redder and more secure from voting irregularities. Maybe being able to get the kinds of numbers in purple states to claw back the worst excesses of local Democrat control. If we're on a path towards some kind of national divorce, strong red states are going to be the foundation of the future.

Right, the thing is that she at one point was trying to get rid of that pup because of her barking (otherwise a good dog). I talked her out of it because the poor pup is just being a dog.

Then she put a barking collar on it (this is a small terrier with a scrawny neck) and I would hear the poor thing screeching from the furthest bedroom in my house. It wasnt stopping that pups barking anyhow. She was just torturing it.

Basically she just needs to be aware of the dogs and whenever they start barking step in and redirect them or bring them inside. I use a silent whistle with mine and or bring them in. They only go out several times per day for brief periods anyhow. We are both home retired and care about our neighbors not to cause them distress.

But this military like requirements that she keeps pushing I find odd to say the least

If it's game over now, then isn't the right approach to start resource extraction and goods production at all costs and by any means necessary right now, so as to stockpile as much as possible as insurance against a destroyed future? If you truly believe we cannot fix the problem in the time we have left, the correct conclusion is mash down on the accelerator as hard as possible to stack the deck in your favor to help smooth the transition into Armageddon.

They 1) do not deliver enough paper blank ballots to (R) precincts. These people are given Provisional Ballots that go into Box C. These either get counted (D) precinct or are left on the cutting room floor if from (R).
2) Print unreadable ballots that are collected in Box C, then they are adjudicated later. In the case of AZ there were 400,000 of these ballots. 250,000 went to Hobbs.
In a 51 (R) vs 45 (D) state that is about 125 standard deviations of from a normal distribution.

One of the things they made a really big deal out of when they were starting up this season was that the helmets for skilled positions had microphones, and you could hear the players on the field. "Listen to the interactions!"

350 Well, you both do not really want dogs barking all day, regardless of which side of the fence. The other ppl in the neighborhood might call in a noise complaint.

I don't keep pets for a variety of reasons. Unfortunately, my little slice of heaven happens to be between two neighbors who each keep at least five dogs and numerous stray cats.

The cats are constantly in my yard chasing birds and crapping in the gardens. That is what cats do. One neighbor has barking dogs but disciplines them such that they tune up for only a minute.

The other neighbor is a fucking asshole who sought out the noisiest, high energy dog at the pound and asked for something even worse. He added that vile animal to the menagerie at his home, discovered that the animal barked ALL THE FUCKING TIME and thought "instead of giving the dog any attention, maybe I should get another dog just like it so they can play together". Now I have a choir that tune up for as much as nine hours a day. (they are making a cacophony Right Now and its barely past daybreak)

416 JJ,

Please to reconsider opinion on Ukraine. The great VDH asks us to address many unanswered questions about the conflict, yet he leaves key questions unasked himself. Here they are:

What are Russia's intentions beyond Ukraine? Putin has fought several prior, post cold war conflicts to restore the territorial sphere of influence of the old Soviet Union, the demise of which he describes as the century's great political disaster. Is Ukraine his end objective? If not, then what?

Why is Poland undergoing a massive expansion of its military? Why have the Swedes and Finland (previously neutral) suddenly elected to Join NATO? The obvious answer is that they clearly see Russia's intent as extending beyond Ukraine. Multiple NATO countries are likely Russian targets.

If Russia's aggression extends to NATO allies, will we not be obligated by treaty to go to war directly against Russia? Answer is yes. If we fail to do so, our role as global leader will end. Our alliances everywhere will collapse, giving the Chinese free hand to create a new world order, a grim result for every aspect of American life.

417 >> "She’s (Psaki) decided to continue serving as a mouthpiece for Joe Biden."

As opposed to: she was hired to be the network's Biden mouthpiece? I would imagine there's rewards to that network in the form of access, etc. for doing so. Recall how MSNBC, which was so obviously run by the DNC and Obama WH, earned exclusive interviews/access to key Dems and then owner GE got huge tax breaks and other benefits.

These people who move from WH to MSM never stop representing their boss. Just look at that idiot Maria Harf on Fox.

429 I think those are fair questions to ask.

Now I think you should ask yourself the following questions as well:

What are America's interests beyond Ukraine? Numerous American officials, including the President, have noted that they would like to see regime change inside Moscow.

American Senators, mostly GOP, have called for the assassination of Vladimir Putin. What is America's goal in controlling other nations and removing their President with an act of criminality?

What was America's role in sabotaging Russian energy infrastructure? Was it right to destroy another sovereign nations civilian infrastructure?

Why has America fomented unrest and to what degree should America instigate revolutions and coups that destroy the peaceful balance of power in the world?

If the American hegemony seeks to conquer all of the known world and prop up puppet dictators that are antithetical to the history and leadership of sovereign nations, in what way do we differ from all other nations with a desire for global conquest?

Answer these from a neutral, non-American perspective, if you might.

430 Have any of you watched any XFL games? It's a pro football league that is offensive-driven and has some talented players from college who couldn't make it in or to the NFL. (It's okay football, but I suspect the mid to top SEC teams could run the table if they were allowed to play against them)

One of the things they made a really big deal out of when they were starting up this season was that the helmets for skilled positions had microphones, and you could hear the players on the field. "Listen to the interactions!"

That lasted about one quarter of one game.

These would be considered acts of war obviously in isolation. What complicates matters is prior bad acts by the defendant (Putin), some of which could equally be labeled acts of war (Wagner operatives attacking US troops in Syria for example a few years back).

So essentially, like Saddam, when a country violates international law itself like Russia (or China) has, then it makes it much more of a slog to argue that in this case, they are correct.
The old common law saying is he who comes to court to bring actions against others must have clean hands.

Realism/pragmatism is a much simpler application. It is not in our best interests to foment war in Eastern Europe nor to force Russia into a corner so resolving the UKR-Russia war immediately via peace talks should be first on the agenda.

I am resigned to the fact that constitutional governance is simply not possible when the Uniparty simply refuses to do anything about it.

But, the Uniparty's horrendous performance in office, its overt corruption and disdain for the law, and its ratcheting up of repression seems to be backfiring as far as the public noticing it. That, at least, gives a chance to those wanting a restoration of a government abiding by the Constitution.

I learned many years ago, any pariah in government was worth studying. More often than not, they were the smart, industrious ones, both needed and feared by those in authority. Rarely would any be allowed into government hierarchy; one must have the right sponsors to rise.

PDT took their BS "hope" and change promises from a prior campaign or two & made them into something more real, that could be welcomed by just about everyone, but for dynasties. It wasn't peaceful with him as president - it won't be if he returns - nor will it be if any other "Republician" is elected president. It's ok. Take another page from opposition's book, "No justice, no peace," but stay adults, if possible.

My PA county - Delaware - was featured beneath in the top article containing the detailed audit piece. FYI, bent but not broken, we haven't given up yet! A recent article in the Daily Times: Aston Township commissioners agree to oust voting drop box. Aloha.

437 It's not a flip flop. Two things can be true at the same time. He can believe it is a territorial dispute that we have no place in and believe that the person that invaded is a war criminal. I don't understand the people who are twisting themselves into a pretzel to say this is flip flopping. Syria is a war we shouldn't have been involved in AND Assad is a war criminal. It's very simple, but if people are just looking for a reason to hate DeSantis (for reasons I can't figure out) then they'll just make up anything to make themselves out to be right.

I agree with you. I'm under no delusion that Putin isn't an adversary.

But it is almost comical to ask "What are Putin's ambitions beyond Ukraine", whilst watching the ever eastward creep of NATO.

It's outright laughable to ask "Does Putin desire world conquest" and then follow it up with a statement regarding America's role as "global leader".

No one in Russia elected America as "global leader". No one in China elected America as "global leader". In fact there is no democratic process that respects international borders and state sovereignty that deems one nation as "global leader" over all the others.

There is one global leader and He is on high.

It is difficult to fathom the cognitive dissonance involved in reading the tales of official misconduct government corruption inside the US and then stake claim to its right to "lead the globe".

448 On spot again, JJ. Two days running too!

I will add that your ending comnents are the crux of everything and can confidently state that NOTHING WILL EVER HAPPEN in regards to "election integrity" [those two words are the ultimate oxymoron in American politics] as the Republicans benefit from the establishment cheat machine as much as the Democrats and are part of that machine. Take my home state of Mississippi in 2014, during the Republican Senate Primary that pitted Tea Party favorite Chris McDaniel against incumbent Thad Cochran. McDaniel was going to win and so the Cochran team, in conjunction with former governor Haley Barbour, his nephew Henry, Mitch McConnell backed Brad Daysong and the MS Democrat Party concocted a plan to "expand the electorate," by getting Democrats (who had already voted in the state Democrat primary) to crossover vote in the Republican primary by 5-7000 extra votes that put Cochran over the top by a few thousand, thus ensuring the establishment would keep control. And the courts in MS delayed McDaniel's lawsuits until time ran out, because most of them had been previously appointed by Haley Barbour. The G.O.P. is worse than the Democrats!

Posted by: Tracy at March 23, 2023 11:12 AM (lmfvP)

449 One last point on my above comments about the Mississippi Republican Senate Primary of 2014. The crossover voting by Democrats that had previously voted in the Democrat Senate Primary is A CRIME IN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI and yet our state Supreme Court did nothing. In relation, look no further than Doug Ducey of AZ, Brian Kemp of GA, the whole of the Republican controlled legistlatures in PA, MI and WI in 2020, the response of the courts and then it becomes crystal clear that Republicans are chief players in the national "fortifying" CHEAT machine and worked in tandem with Democrats to steal 2020. This is why I distrust nearly ALL Republicans and hate them with every fiber of my being. If Desantis has the backing of those establishment Republicans, he's about to lose a ton of support from those who were thinking of giving him theirs.

457 JJ, you wrote the following in your post:

"And yes, Putin is a war criminal, a thug and generally a not-nice person."

So where is the difference between what DeSantis said, and what you wrote?

Stating Putin is a war criminal (in your opinion) is not the same thing as saying we should send Ukraine bottomless amounts of aid. Or else you just admitted that's what you want to do.

So why are you following the same tactic the MSM perfected against Trump -- take a sentence out of context, blow it way out of proportion, and pretend that it's the sum total of his thoughts on the matter in question. Ignoring everything else he's ever said on the same issue. Context is everything.

Unfortunately, Trump has learned nothing and if anything is more hated than ever by a large chunk of America. Not fixable disenchantment--HATE. He still lauds the Covid jab and still has the same loser advisors (Brook Rollins, Stepien, Clark, really?).

At the national level, the GOP is sleepwalking through hearings with understaffed teams. The effing jab is still getting pushed--even to young children now. The GOP joined with Biden on his insane spending and is lined up to back the US into WW3 over the D.C. money laundering pit otherwise known as Ukraine.

How about all those GOP state houses? Where's the effort to fix voter registration rolls, to end no excuse mail-in voting, to eliminate drop boxes, to ensure election laws are actually followed by secretaries of state and judges? Yeah, that's what I thought.
