Wednesday Morning Rant [Joe Mannix]

Malice in Dunderland

One of my favorite insults is "dunderhead." It sounds exactly like what it is. A dunderhead is an incompetent fool, an idiot, a moron (not the good kind). We live in an era of dunderheads. All one has to do is turn on the television, pick up a newspaper or walk through a government building (okay, maybe not that last one) and he will see dunderheads packed to the rafters. With every turn of the head and every step taken, he will find more and various dunderheads. Our ruling class is virtually nothing but those kinds. We are living in Dunderland.

But far from being affable fools who bumble about but are otherwise possibly even likable, our fools are tinged with evil. They're dunderheads, but they're also sinister. Their every action is defined not just by stupidity, but by malice. Their hatred matches or exceeds their foolishness. The age old question of maliciousness and stupidity does not apply. As is fitting for our venue, one needs to embrace the power of "and."

Political prosecutions are malicious, but when they're targeted against a wildly popular former leader, they're also stupid. Bragg runs the risk of turning Trump into an even bigger martyr than he is already, which runs the risk of galvanizing support for their hate symbol.

Targeting parents who object at school board meetings is malicious, but it is also stupid because criminalizing attempts at reform for people who have alternatives - and private school or more likely home school are alternatives that are increasingly used - will result in them leaving after they begin to hate you.

Destroying the oil industry is stupid because it will also destroy the economy, but it is also malicious because part of the motivation is the personal and financial destruction of those who dare question the church of Climate Change.

Enacting price controls for prescription drugs rather than forcing manufacturers and distributors to comply with transparent pricing and enabling competition is stupid because it will shift - but not solve - the underlying problem, but it is also malicious because it continues to rob some people to pay off political friends (albeit by a different means).

Legalizing crime is stupid because it makes the environment in which people live worse in every way, but it is also malicious because the people behind those rules want to destroy normal citizens by any means necessary.

Destroying the world in the name of a severe cold was so stupid and so malicious that I go back and forth on which was the more important factor at which point in time - but both were certainly alive and well throughout.

The list can run nearly to infinity. Sometimes the motivation of an action is malice. Sometimes it is stupidity. In all cases, the two feed on each other and grow bigger. Every stupid action will also be malicious. Every malicious action will also be stupid.

Malice is the coin of the realm in Dunderland.

67 One thing I have noticed is that no one is looking at the Trump stuff in a wider context. The Left loves to move the overton window, we have a tendency (almost a rule at this point) to react with a disbelieving horror until after they do what they say they are going to do.

They already have persecuted people on trumped up charges with the J6 guys or how they dealt with the vaxx. The current Trump stuff is just an outgrowth of that evolution.

As much as I am not as down on Trump, that does not mean I am down on DeSantis- however I think he, we and everyone is still caught in that retarded reaction loop where we do not believe the left is going to do what they are explicitly saying they are going to do. And so everyone gets trapped into just reacting to events. In this case, DeSantis wants to be seen as a leader within the movement, but he is waiting to react until after they have done the Trump Perp walk they so desperately crave.

In the minds of his followers payment is due, and even white donks (primarily female) are ok with this. A guy walked up to my wife and me at a bar/grill and struck up a conversation. Friendly enough fellow. My friend had me try one of those beers once and after tasting it I told him i needed to lick my dog's ass to get rid of the Sam Adams flavor."

Then he went and sat at a nearby table and ordered a Heineken.

Plus, the comparison limps politically because you had one government and two rival factions (commies and Nazis) who were duking it out while that government just fiddled.

In this case, the commies are in charge of the government and the paramilitary groups (although IN CHARGE might be too strong in the case of BLM/Antifa.)

102 OT: Speaking of gay...

I saw Shazam 2 last night. It was a really fun movie. But the one downside - it had to have the ever so slightest gay subplot that was 30 seconds of screen time, b/c it had a true herterosexual teen romance for an hour...and you can't have one without giving a shoutout (which is literally all they did...there's no "gay" except a shout of "I'm gay" and one look at a magazine dressed pic)...

So, I felt my money was well spent, b/c the plot was good, the acting (especially with the teen romance and the wizard) was good, and the comedy mostly lands and is unwoke. And Shazam was the hero, not someone else. BUT, I did want to mention the one issue, b/c I watch so you don't have to.

For me, it's a pay to see matinee/cheap Tuesday movie for anyone 10+...but I'm not sure that will be for everyone...

That is how political minorities seize power in a Democracy---you have to manipulate people into believing that your version of reality is superior to objective reality. That requires ignoring history, economics, or any other rational process that denies will to power.

E.g. In reality, Bastista's Cuba was not a hellhole that the Commies portrayed it to be but Castro and his symps portrayed it as such to the US media in order to sideline the US in order to seize power.

Cuba under Castro is arguably a hellhole now but the Castro brothers are billionaires. Funny how that works in Venezuela, Nicaragua, etc.

Nah, some do because they want to be a part of something bigger than them. The Lord via Samuel kept telling the Israelites, do you REALLY want a king to rule you? And a majority preferred that because it was the trendy thing at the time--all their surrounding enemies had a king so you got to keep up with the times.

A basic primer on humanity aka the Bible is that we are broken, sinful, prideful, and display a vast panoply of horrendous behavior--even the good guys like Noah slept with his daughters or had a man killed so he could sleep with the widow (David). Assuming anyone wanting the climb the greasy pole of power over others is a saint is beyond reckoning, yet even Nebuchadnezzar the tyrant, served the purposes of the Lord and Edward the Confessor widely recognized as a 'Saint' was an incompetent ruler that failed to provide for a legitimate successor to take the throne resulting in him being the last Saxon king.

164 The first part of “dunderhead” comes from the Dutch word for “thunder.” The name of Santa’s reindeer Donner was taken from the same source. “Donner and Blitzen” are “Thunder and Lightning.”. So I guess “dunderhead” means something like “someone who acts like their brains have been scrambled by being struck by lightning.”
Posted by: Bulgaroctonus at March 22, 2023 11:08 AM (ffbyg)

Ackshewallee,
The origin of the word "dunderhead" is from the "dunder" which is the leftover lees and cane leavings from making rum, such as Jamaican rum.

Dunderheads were the poor alkies who couldn't afford rum so would steal dunder from the dunder pit or trash pit and suck it dry or eat it to go drunk.
This dunder having undistilled poor quality alcohol not to mention other mibrobioita generally fucked up the dunderheads already fucked up brains.
So, a dunderhead originally was not just a drunk but a totally messed up alcoholic idiot.
The origin of dunderhead makes it one of my favorite words.

Look no farther than here. The NASA scientist is stating flat-out that it's happening, and people insist that it's not. Or we insist that the NASA scientist openly telling us that they're chemicals and they decided they needed to switch to only releasing them at night is wrong and the NASA scientist responsible for the missions doesn't understand that it's just a difference in temperature and it's condensation and everything is fine.

We don't WANT it to be happening because it's so disruptive to what we understood to be America.

Just like the young woman in Memphis that liked to jog in early morning darkness found out when she crossed paths with a criminally evil creep.

One of the worst things about modernity is that in order for mass society to exist, the Powers That Be used the school system to teach people that everyone is basically good, kind, deserving of respect, regardless of their actual actions.

NIST confirmed that some burning chairs were the reason all 80+ structural supports of WTC #7 failed simultaneously, and the failure had nothing to do any impact or other fuels, that no fireproofing on the columns was compromised, and the simultaneous failure of all 80+ structural supports would've occured from burning office chairs and cubicles regardless of whether the planes had crashed into the other buildings or not.

Your reading of history should tell you who f--cked that human society is regardless of historical era.

Once you give up the idea that progression toward a better society is inevitable, it becomes less surprising how human evil and deviancy becomes expressed. It is one of the reasons that I found myself years ago returning to religion as a balm. It reminds us that this too will pass, worrying does not extend one's life and health one single day or hour, and that there is only one permanent victory at the end of all things.

The Book of Ecclesiastes was not to my taste when I was younger than 29 but its reminder shows that even when things appear so bright, that someone like Solomon too ends up with moments of despair over human existence.

I enjoyed "Better than Us", a Russian show about 'bots, but really about family. It was entertaining, with a little bit of everything thrown in, but tied up nicely. I assume there will be no more offerings of Russian shows on Netflix until the current unpleasantness away over there subsides.

Sometimes you just lose and suffer.

The test of your immortal soul is if you are faithful during those times, as well as when life is more convenient and bountiful.

A dutiful slave has a better reward than an unjust dictator. This is one of the difficulties of having principles. Often the benefits of principles aren't tangible and immediate and they more often look like punishments. But in the rear-view mirror, you wouldn't exchange the suffering and difficulty for the easy path.

You play out what is set in front of you, scrapping and clawing and fighting. And those in those respites the Lord grants you, you regather strength to enter the fight again, because you know it's coming.

There are plenty of stupid people that have little malice, imo. And some smart malicious people. BUT when talking about BigGov actions, the malice and stupidity go hand in hand. Though in that case, the top dogs maliciously use the stupid people, misleading them with CRT doctrine, for example.

And a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, so we get the Karens on Mount Stupid (Dunning-Kruger effect) that do become malicious as they attack "climate/vax deniers". Smart and benevolent people don't seem to get far in politics, at least not without some aggressively protective attributes.

Orwellian doublethink in action. They know it is a lie, because it is absurd. They know it must be true, because the party commands it. These two conditions do not cause them any cognitive dissonance, because they have been trained to ignore it.

They are in a superposition of cynicism and naivete. Someone open the damn box already.

281 164 The origin of the word "dunderhead" is from the "dunder" which is the leftover lees and cane leavings from making rum, such as Jamaican rum.

BONUS!: The funk in Jamaican rums comes from a small amount of dunder mixed back into the rum

NYPD is not going to send cops to Florida to arrest trump. That is not going to happen. But you are correct in that trump should fight the extradition. The DA is presupposing that if/when he charges trump he will hop on his plane and fly to NYC to turn himself in and he will get his perp walk moment for cnn/msnbc viewers.

Problem is, I suspect that trump wants that moment as well so he will do it.

297 221 I watched a few hours of 9-11 footage last nite (more evidence I have no life.) Anyway, skeptics often say the towers fell at "free fall speed." So I see debris getting blown out horizontally as the floors pancake and the air squishes out of each floor. The debris falls in the expected parabolic trajectory, away and down from the pancaking region. AND it falls FASTER than the tower is pancaking, unmistakably so. Is the debris then falling "faster than free fall speed," or are the 'freefall' skeptics full of shit? I'll go with the latter.

You are conflating conservatism which is a fundamentally Liberal (in the old sense or other than US) versus the Right. Traditionally, the Right were supporters of the ancien regime of Church, aristocracy, and monarchy over that of popular rule. The Framers had a whiff of that in their setting up a Republic that limited popular participation so as to avoid the situation.

It is not the person of Washington that I revere, he was a man, no more, no less. But his actions were wise in office despite the fact that at the time, his decisions were often very controversial at the time such as declaring neutrality during the post Revolution fights between Britain and France.

309 Apparently the Jamaican distillers use the terms "stillage" and "muck" more than "dunder", but the point is the same. I think historically it all happened because distillers just didn't remove most or all of the accumulated stillage before starting a new batch, but in Jamaica it became part of the art and distinctive profile of the product. You get some of the "dunder" funk in Guyana and St Lucia rums too, but usually far milder. Them Jamaican rums with the full-on funk are not my jam, as the kids say, but I can see how some people eventually get into that.

DeSantis is a very smart politician that plans out his campaigns which makes him a very different politican than the apparently chaotic Trump style which aggravates a lot of people across the political boundary.

He plans out his actions meticulously but that sort of thing is not always possible when events take their course. Sometimes events demand you take an action without preplanning and that you will be judged, fairly or not, by whether you responded properly. That is the reality of the 3am phonecall so famous back in the day.

352 >>Holy crap, McCarthy has TWO new books either out or coming out.

Translated, that means he's done some big favors and the amount of the Vig cannot be easily hidden so it's going to be laundered through the usual avenues of corruption.

353 "Every stupid action will also be malicious. Every malicious action will also be stupid."

That's because evil is ultimately insane.

'Sometimes events demand you take an action without preplanning and that you will be judged, fairly or not, by whether you responded properly. '

That's why you decide your principle in advance. So, when the unexpected happens you can answer the phone.

If DeSantis doesn't already know whether that it's a fight to the death for freedom, he is not the man many here want him to be.

356 Consensus in the investment community is a raise of .25 points. However, plus .50 points or zero points are possible as well.

357 That is how political minorities seize power in a Democracy---you have to manipulate people into believing that your version of reality is superior to objective reality.
