San Fransisco District Supervisor Has Completely-Unexpected Complaint About City Police Force

Via Instapundit and David Strom, a San Francisco district supervisor "strongly" supported the movement to defund the police in 2020.

Hillary Ronen
@HillaryRonen

Aug 16, 2020

I want to make it clear that I believe strongly in defunding the police and reducing the number of officers on our force. For decades we've had an imbalance in our city's budget, with hundreds of millions of dollars going to SFPD to have them do work they are not qualified to do.

Hillary Ronen
@HillaryRonen

After fighting to create Mental Health SF which redirects funds to mental health care crisis teams instead of police, I believe without a shadow of a doubt that SFPD is not where we should be putting our money.

But we have a big fight on our hands to make these cuts happen.

Hillary Ronen
@HillaryRonen

If I've learned anything from my years in City Hall, it is that our best wins come through collaboration. We need unprecedented unity between those who wish to defund the police if we are to get passed this finish line together.

You'll never guess what she's saying now.

Actually, I'm pretty sure you saw the Spoiler Twist Ending of this movie coming back in 2020.

Do you see? It's the police department's fault that they don't have enough manpower to send additional cops to her district. Why did the police department defund itself?!?!

Meanwhile, a CNN crew hired security to guard their car in San Francisco, right outside what is supposed to be the embodiment of law and order in any city, City Hall.

The fact that CNN even had to hire security to guard their car right in front of the locus of legal and political power in San Francisco is insane enough.

But guess what happened?

That's right, robbers broke into the car and looted it, despite the security guard right next to it.

San Francisco's City Hall is not the locus of law and order. It is in fact the locus of criminality and mayhem. The thieves and bandits are on their home turf in front of the San Francisco's City Hall.

Bakersfield, CA. I was in a store and, me being me, asked the security guard if he was allowed to chase anyone who ran out the door with a cart full of groceries. The guard made it very clear he wasn't allowed to do anything, other than observe and report.

46 The car prowl thieves in San Francisco are on another level of organization.

They specifically target areas and cars that are rentals.

They have gloves that have those hardened glass popping points in the palms so it looks like all they did was slapped the glass and it shatters.

They don't bother with most things in the passenger compartment, they will look in the trunk for suitcases.

There are mobile dealers they go to right in the city that will buy laptops, phones, prescription drugs, and other items. The thieves take their loot within the hour to these fences set up on a street somewhere and get cash.

79 My company has its HQ in the Bay Area. Not in San Francisco proper, but in Silicon Valley.

It was 2018, I think, that they started forbidding the use of rental cars for people visiting the HQ from other offices. The reason was property crime. Rental cars are easy to spot and the thugs *loved* targeting them. There's often good stuff in a rental car - like laptops, watches in luggage, etc. - and they go after it.

My company, like most really big firms, was "self-insured" meaning that they have to pay for vehicle damages as well, of course, for lost company property. They got tired of buying car windows and laptops and eventually threw in the towel. Cabs or Ubers only for those visiting the HQ. Use them for airport transportation and for commuting from hotels. It's more expensive than a car rental if nothing goes wrong, but much cheaper than paying to repair rental cars and replace stolen equipment.

Cars are rolling looting targets in the Bay Area.

93 72 I also want to point out, a lot of focus is on the cops, but the prosecutors are the real culprit. Cops don't arrest these people because the prosecutor's office has them back on the street before the cop's done with the paperwork. You are correct. For the most part, the people creating this tyranny by anarchy are elected and appointed officials in the bureaucracy--not the street level cops. Far too many people blame the street cops for various misdeeds but not the people that create bad laws and regulations to be enforced nor the courts for proposing outrageous anti-societal rulings making it easier for criminals.

In the Washington Post today:

The moral and legal case for sending Russia’s frozen $300 billion to Ukraine

That will kill the dollar as the world's reserve currency, of course - no country that thinks that it ever might get crosswise with the US is going to hold dollars, once the principle is established that the US can simply seize a country's dollar reserves, and arbitrarily hand them to someone else.

Even when Iran committed an act of war against us by seizing our diplomats, we only froze Iranian assets, not seized them, because we knew back then what the consequences would be.

But now that we have the Stupidest Ruling Class In History, anything's possible.

The funny thing is, is if that money is ever paid it will mostly be given right back to the rich, successful businessmen that seem to be the target of hate.
People with that kind of sudden money will be buying expensive cars/clothes, going on expensive vacations, etc.
I doubt they will spread the wealth with local grocery shop owners, used car lots or discount clothing stores.

I had a cab driver explain San Fransisco to me in the late 70's. It's a long ride to downtown from the airport so I thought I'd make conversation by asking him if he'd ever had to do the Hollywood thing of delivering a baby in the cab.

"In this city, with all these fags? The birth rate is zero."

I laughed because I had heard that before. But the hills were okay, the wharf was okay, the 'copter ride over Alcatraz was probably the highlight. I'd never go back. Even if free.

My dad traveled a lot in the 70's and 80's. He always called that place the "land of fruits, nuts and the whispering bush."

"May 14, 1856, James King, the editor of the Bulletin newspaper, who had persistently exposed the misdeeds of the political powers, was murdered by a low-life politician and known ballot-box stuffer named James Casey. Trusting that the political machine would take care of him, Casey surrendered partly for protection from King’s friends.

Word of King’s murder spread quickly, and determined citizens were ready to end the political corruption at any cost. Soon, a citizens delegate approached William T. Coleman, who had belonged to the Vigilance Committee of 1851, asking him to form another vigilante group to take measures against the politicians. At first, Coleman was reluctant but was soon convinced there was no alternative. A call for arms was soon made signed by the “Committee of Thirteen,” the same title under which the Vigilance Committee of 1851 was disbanded."

265 Isn't it about time the police departments with City Councils and other elected officers that go hard after "defunding" decide that they will no longer provide those officials with protection? That to do so under excessively strained budgets and limited personnel availability endangers the the very citizens they are tasked to protect?

Because this endless and discriminatory security bubble the bureaucrats enjoy at the expense of the citizens who pay for it all (and for whom the "leaders" exist to serve) are uniquely screwed by policies imposed upon them. Yes, some cities and their citizens insist upon the hellscape they cooperatively create, so no empathy there. But there are many cities where the voters want/demand protection but the elected decide to go a different, more perverse way and save themselves alone.

It seems police and their unions need to step up and say, "Yeah, no, we won't protect you first anymore. Citizens get first dibs on our services."

Owing to a well-oiled judicial system and robust prison space and resources, historically speaking, Westerners have developed this attitude that if it does not happen in a marble-appointed courthouse, it ain't justice. But great wealth and prosperity are all that's made this possible. Hanging horse thieves and the like is perfectly reasonable in societies where survival is more precarious. And also in societies in which the ruling class has decided the courts will not be allowed to work.

325 Owing to a well-oiled judicial system and robust prison space and resources, historically speaking, Westerners have developed this attitude that if it does not happen in a marble-appointed courthouse, it ain't justice. But great wealth and prosperity are all that's made this possible. Hanging horse thieves and the like is perfectly reasonable in societies where survival is more precarious. And also in societies in which the ruling class has decided the courts will not be allowed to work.

396 Did lynchers typically have a way to drop the lynched so as to break necks or did they just let them dangle and strangle?
Posted by: N. Lurker at March 20, 2023 03:09 PM (eGTCV)

Until recently I thought the difference between hanging and lynching was that the lynched were pulled up and strangled, while the hanged dropped.
Turns out it's the difference between legal and otherwise forms of execution and most lynchings did have their victims hoisted.

Expect one line of attack to be like that on Kavanaugh. They will go back to teen and early adulthood trolling for someone to claim they were raped, etc. His stint teaching yutes at a GA school after graduating college is also a prime target for manufacturing claims.

Oh for sure. But I think this is an area where DeSantis's team is far superior to Trump's. Trump would be wise to tread carefully - not that I expect him to - because it's like a boxer swinging haymakers wildly, opening his chin, and getting dropped.

yes.

Ford's Theatre has never put it on again but it apparently was played on and off until 1915

I've heard that hanging women is tricky since the gallows and nooses are calibrated to the weight of a man. So women tend to not have the velocity to snap the neck.

432 This story of SF madness would be amusing if this wasn’t the harbinger of the future disastrous state all average Americans will be in as the Biden Junta with its allies shove the Green F—cking New Deal down our throats and draws Russia, China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and most of the Global South into a war against the increasingly demented and out of touch USA (Canada, it’s “hat” and the either brain-dead or rebellious peoples of Europe.

The only nations who really want to fight Putin’s Russia militarily are the Poles and the Baltic States.

Even (Especially) the Ukrainians are in it for the money. The Ukrainians in charge that is.

The Ukrainians fighting and dying. They’re shit out of luck, drew the short stick, etc… Where average Americans will be soon (the people of East Palestine, Ohio, have already punched their ticket to the Get F—CKED Express).
