Between 1955 and 1964, he racked up 22 hits on the US R&B chart including the No.1s “Maybellene,” “School Day,” and “Sweet Little Sixteen.” Berry’s best-selling single was 1972’s “My Ding-A-Ling,” which topped both the Hot 100 and the UK singles chart. via thisdayinmusic.com Born on this day:18 Mar 1941 A trespasser who tried to break into several helicopters crashed while trying to fly off on one of them. The country music discussion was cool. So is the Saturday Night Joke.
Miss Linda and I just got back from the nearby Hooters restaurant. Aside from one or two blonde hostesses, I was kind of disappointed in the waitress eye candy. A couple of the girls weren't fat, exactly, but they sure could have used the old Abdominizer or a gym membership. Still, it's way better than the buffalo and hippos, male and female, who pretend to serve you at my local Applebees. Food was good, though. On the "Completed" vs "Finished" topic, after many years in the Army, we actually often used the term "Culminated". It didn't really mean that we were in agreement or that we had a final solution. It mostly meant that we had "run out of gas" and weren't going to go any further.
I guess in the terms of the posting above, it means that the man in the situation realizes, "fuck it, I'm not going to win in this situation!" -SLV Posted by: Shy Lurking Vote at March 18, 2023 09:56 PM (e/Osv) 19

I find it a bit strange that the article doesn't mention the field of study of the Florida professor who is spending 100 days in an underwater habitat.
If he's a marine biologist or something, that makes perfect sense as he could be researching what it would take to create long-term underwater research stations, analogous to the International Space Station. If he's a professor of Gender Studies, then maybe they should let him spend the next 100 years down there...for a different kind of research. Archie Comics did a version of it with the Black Hood. Superman is on one end of the scale, I think a fascinating character would be the badass normal who keeps Metropolis safe while Big Blue knocks the fuck out of the world ending threats. At any rate the sliding scale is Villain, Anti-Villain, Sociopath, Anti-Hero, Hero...... Power levels range from mundane to demigod I would wager. I think for an ironic twist I will have the sanest most human loving character be an AI robot. "What seperates mankind is not their ability to engage in multiple calculations per nansecond but the ability to dedicate a lifetime to an avocation despite the probabilities," explained Doctor Bot. "I can tell you with 99.975% accuracy what the weather will be tomorrow-the parent will move heaven and Earth to stop the rain if it saves a child." Anyway an idea I have been kicking around, superhero fiction has become an exercise in scream therapy validation of identity session, and the post-apocalyptic stuff revels in the loss more than the rebuilding and stabilization. Both genres are meant to highlight the construction and deconstruction of society and its members. Posted by: sven at March 18, 2023 10:20 PM (Lzpvj) 96

Quote: "The reason for the collapse of World Trade Center 7 is no longer a mystery. World Trade Center 7 collapsed because of fires fueled by office furnishings. It did not collapse from explosives or fuel oil fires," said Shyam Sunder, lead investigator for the National Institute of Standards and Technology. A team of 50 experts, including metallurgists, explosives experts and structural engineers, pinpointed the cause of the collapse as the failure of a single column. The column between floors 7 and 14 gave way when its supporting girders came loose after expanding from heat. Sunder said the phenomenon had never been seen before in a high-rise building." Cranks, midwits and visionaries:
Cranks jump to conclusions and fail to do the hard work of testing to make sure reality matches the conclusions because in the end the crank loves his conclusion more than the provable truth. Visionaries jump to conclusions and love to find out if the reality matches it because the visionary doesn't want to be right as much as being correct. Midwits let other people do the hard thinking and accept those conclusions as gospel truth, defending them as if they were an integral element of personality. I think the prevailing budding theory is that the US security state did not so much do 9/11 as allowed it to happen to get its way. Some retards sincerely believe that there is a magical "nano thermite" that the seven battalions of dwarves were able to put into the WTC complex and Pentagon by the ton unnoticed. People have an easier time in some cases pretending their own government is capable of such evil rather than a foreign actor because ostensibly they have some locus of control concerning their government whereas facing the facts that the lives we take for granted are actually fragile and our enemies get to move on the game board is beyond their control. Industrial psychology has a version of this instinct in "tolerance for ambiguity theory." Posted by: sven at March 18, 2023 11:32 PM (Lzpvj) 263

Steel begins losing tensile strength at 600 degrees, also they ignore that the WTC construction relied on 36*16 inch support beams. The WTC was probably the ultimate expression of the light support style high-rise and made of less load bearing support than the ESB. Posted by: Piper at March 18, 2023 10:15 PM (ZdaMQ) Speaking of pizza, I got a free one this evening. Went to meet friends at a pub in downtown Mesa. They had food truck out front, selling pizzas. I ordered one. The guy from the pizza truck brings it inside to me, all apologetic, "It had a hole in the crust, and some of the cheese leaked out. I am making you a new one." I tried to refuse it, as the first one was perfectly fine. He wouldn't hear of it, so I came home with two uneaten slices in one box, and a complete uneaten pizza in the other. NIST.gov "The debris from WTC 1 caused structural damage to the southwest region of WTC 7...but this structural damage did not initiate the collapse. The fires initiated by the debris, rather than the structural damage that resulted from the impacts, initiated the building's collapse after the fires grew and spread to the northeast region after several hours. The debris impact caused no damage to the spray-applied fire-resistive material that was applied to the steel columns, girders and beams except in the immediate vicinity of the severed columns... A separate analysis showed that even without the structural damage due to debris impact, WTC 7 would have collapsed in fires... ...Even without the structural damage, WTC 7 would have collapsed from the fires that the debris initiated. nist.gov/world-trade-center-investigation/ study-faqs/wtc-7-investigation Office furniture. Asbestos cladding does not absolutely block the heat from getting to the steel beams, just delays it. It is no more complicated than divide and conquer.
They need people to play the game. They don't care what side you choose, but it's "How about you and him fight?" The very last thing they want is a reasonably well educated citizenry, intact families, able to think and have opinions of their own. When everyone is fighting amongst themselves, they cannot organize or present a voting bloc or anything else. Propaganda. Repetition. There is no right and wrong, except what the Americans have had hard core psy-ops ran against them since the 1950s, if you're wondering what all those "think tanks" and Institutes for Social Research and Tavistock and where all the missing black hole dollars went, now you know. Remember when black folks raised the alarm about crack cocaine being run into LA by the gubbmint? They weren't lying. Now think about Fentanyl. Demoralize the populace. They have all this shit down to a science. Many of the people being played have no clue, which is rather the point. Some kind of hypnosis too. Romeo13. Best Dominoes I'd ever had.
San Diego, CA. Ashford St., just a skosh North of Kearny H.S. Same shopping center as Market Basket. 2 blocks North of Basque Ave., where we lived in my 8th n' 9th grade days. My walk to Jr. H.S. was epic, as we used a friend's Clairmont "false address" to get me to schools not already on the downhill trend of "diversity". Yeah, 1970s, and that was a THANG, even then. Romeo13. Map out the intersection of Ashford St. and Basque Ave. Kearny Mesa.
Route it to Balboa & Clairmont Blvd., which is a block E. of the olde, long since razed, Mildred Hale Jr. H.S. (but you can find that school in wiki, no doubt?) That was my walk and sometimes bicycle ride to Jr. H.S. Same address to James Madison H.S., Doliva Dr., also Clairmont. Uphill, both ways, but never snow. Romeo13. My Old Man retired out of Training in San Diego.
Undersea Warfare School, he taught up and coming bubbleheads the niceties of dodging Soviet threats. It was his post-heart-attack & recovery billet, before they medically retired him after 24 years service. He passed in 2010, God Rest His Soul. I'm glad he's not around to see the shit that is our D.C. now. It would've killed him. Jim Sunk New Dawn Galveston, TX Posted by: Jim at March 19, 2023 02:52 AM (e6UQI) 401

Heh. Neither of us take ourselves too seriously. After 40 plus years we still laugh hard together and often at each other. It's my way of saying I'm the guy you married and you can't blame that one on me. Her response to my unstable Y chromosome cracks is often "go rotate the tires on my car". President Joe Biden’s self-delusion seems to be boundless. When he looks in the mirror, he apparently sees an upright Irish Catholic true to the historic values of his deeply rooted religious identity. He is, in fact, an appalling Catholic who publicly flouts the church’s most cherished teachings and is about as authentically Irish as a leprechaun hat in a St Patrick’s Day parade.
