Arizona Democrat Senator Mark Kelly Wastes No Time At All and Immediately Starts Demanding That Social Media Begin Censoring Information About the Silicon Valley Bank Debacle

And he did this even knowing that Democrat politicians' threat-backed pressure to censor conservatives -- which Fake Conservative Pharisee David French calls mere "jawboning" -- is being investigated in the House.

They don't care. They have Complete Immunity. And they know that Republicans are too f***ing weak to ever do a thing about it.

During a conference call about the Silicon Valley Bank bailout yesterday, Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ) asked representatives from the Federal Reserve, Treasury Department, and the Federal Deposit and Insurance Corporation (FDIC) if they had a way to censor information on social media to prevent a run on the banks, according to Republican members of the House of Representatives who were on the call.
The members said there were roughly 200 people on the Zoom call, including Senators, House members, and staff members from both parties. "On our conference call, led by [Senate President Chuck] Schumer, with Fed, FDIC, and Treasury, a democrat senator asked the three agencies if there was a program underway on social media to censor information that would lead to a bank run," Rep. Thomas Massie told Public.
"I believe he couched it in a concern that foreign actors would be doing this," said Massie, "but he didn't suggest the censorship should be limited to foreigners or to things that were untrue. The people from the three agencies couldn't answer him and just sort of took a pass on the question."
Rep. Lauren Boebert tweeted, "On a briefing with Biden Under Secretary of the Treasury Nellie Liang regarding the SVB [Silicon Valley Bank] BAILOUT they are working towards and a member asked if they were reaching out to Facebook and Twitter to monitor misinformation and 'bad actors.'"
Calls both to Sen. Mark Kelly's Arizona and Washington D.C. offices were not answered but a Kelly spokesperson gave a statement to the Daily Caller which said, "The unsupported claim made by this blog post you referenced is false. On the briefing, Senator Kelly asked about foreign adversaries potentially trying to take advantage of this situation by spreading misinformation."

But other Republicans confirmed that he was demanding censorship under the usual cover of "stopping foreign interference."

That's by Michael Shellenberger. His testimony to Congress is worth the read:

It is important to understand how these groups [comprising the CIA-front-group "private" side of the Censorship-Industrial Complex] function. They are not publicly engaging with their opponents in an open exchange of ideas. They aren't asking for a national debate over the limits of the First Amendment. Rather, they are creating blacklists of disfavored people and then pressuring, cajoling, and demanding that social media platforms censor, deamplify, and even ban the people on these blacklists.
Who are the censors? They are a familiar type. Overly confident in their ability to discern truth from falsity, good intention from bad intention, the instinct of these hall monitor-types is to complain to the teacher -- and, if the teacher doesn't comply, to go above them, to the principal. Such an approach might work in middle school and many elite universities, but it is anathema to freedom and is an abuse of power.
These organizations and others are also running their own influence operations, often under the guise of "fact-checking." The intellectual leaders of the censorship complex have convinced journalists and social media executives that accurate information is disinformation, that valid hypotheses are conspiracy theories, and that greater self-censorship results in more accurate reporting. In many instances, censorship, such as labeling social media posts, is part of the influence operation aimed at discrediting factual information.
The censorship industrial complex combines established methods of psychological manipulation, some developed by the U.S. military during the Global War on Terror, with highly sophisticated tools from computer science, including artificial intelligence. The complex's leaders are driven by the fear that the Internet and social media platforms empower populist, alternative, and fringe personalities and views, which they regard as destabilizing. Federal government officials, agencies, and contractors have gone from fighting ISIS recruiters and Russian bots to censoring and deplatforming ordinary Americans and disfavored public figures.
Importantly, the bar for bringing in military-grade government monitoring and speech-countering techniques has moved from "countering terrorism" to "countering extremism" to countering simple misinformation. The government no longer needs a predicate of calling you a terrorist or extremist to deploy government resources to counter your political activity. The only predicate it needs is simply the assertion that the opinion you expressed on social media is wrong.
These efforts extend to influencing and even directing conventional news media organizations. Since 1971, when the Washington Post and New York Times elected to publish classified Pentagon papers about the war in Vietnam, journalists understood that we have a professional obligation to report on leaked documents whose contents are in the public interest, even when they had been stolen. And yet, in 2020, the Aspen Institute and Stanford's Cyber Policy Center urged journalists to "Break the Pentagon Papers principle" and not cover leaked information to prevent the spread of "disinformation."
Government-funded censors frequently invoke the prevention of real-world harm to justify their demands for censorship, but the censors define harm far more expansively than the Supreme Court does. The censors have defined harm so broadly, in fact, that they have justified Facebook censoring accurate information about COVID vaccines, for example, to prevent "vaccine hesitancy." Their goal, clearly, is not protecting the truth but rather persuading the public. That is the purpose of open debate and the free exchange of ideas.
And, increasingly, the censors say their goal is to restrict information that "delegitimizes" governmental, industrial, and news media organizations. That mandate is so sweeping that it could easily censor criticism of any part of the status quo, from elected officials to institutions to laws. This extreme, reactionary attitude is, bluntly, un-American.
Congress should immediately cut off funding to the censors and investigate their activities. Second, it should mandate instant reporting of all conversations between social media executives, government employees, and contractors concerning content moderation. Third, Congress should limit the broad permission given to social media platforms to censor, deplatform, and spread propaganda.

238 IIRC the Space Shuttles were mostly "pre-programed" and/or controlled from Houston (Mission Control.) The "pilot" did very little, other than what he/she was told or had rehearsed. Except towards the very end, near touchdown. The degree to which Kelly actually "flew" the Shuttle is debatable.

If yes, may I suggest you plug the polisher into a two prong to three prong adapter and plug the adapter into your suspect GFI outlet. (leave the green ground lead disconnected). If the polisher starts with no problem, then connect the green ground lead to ground (for example the middle screw that holds the outlet cover in place). If the polisher no longer starts, then you do have some kind of internal leakage path from input voltage to ground.

I use it on my work computer. The company controls that.

I do not use it on my personal PC. I never will. Windows 11 is a frustrating productivity destroyer. I haven't had a lot of buggy stuff, but they changed so many things that used to work well and made them work less well (or not at all) and it has destroyed a lot of learned behavior for me. And the new color scheme makes certain things much harder.

It's like they designed it specifically to annoy me personally and harm my productivity.

If yes, may I suggest you plug the polisher into a two prong to three prong adapter and plug the adapter into your suspect GFI outlet. (leave the green ground lead disconnected). If the polisher starts with no problem, then connect the green ground lead to ground (for example the middle screw that holds the outlet cover in place). If the polisher no longer starts, then you do have some kind of internal leakage path from input voltage to ground.

I don't think the chameleon circuit has ever been fixed. It gives the TARDIS its charm. Though there are slight differences in the TARDIS prop from Doctor to Doctor (even within the new series, I think). The interior "desktop" has been remodeled extensively, though.
