Sillicon Valley Bank Paid Out $73 Million to BLM and BLM-Associated Causes
Update: Gavin Newsom Lobbied For Bailout of Bank's Depositors, Without Revealing He Was One of the Bank's Depositors

Before getting to that: Paul Sperry reported this over the weekend.

Paul Sperry
@paulsperry_

DEVELOPING: Fed Reserve Bank of SF that missed massive red flags @ SV Bank run by openly gay diversity quota & Janet Yellen protege Mary Daly who focused more on "climate change and inequities" than regulating rogue banks like SVB. Also chairs SF Fed Diversity & Inclusion Council

A Claremont Institute analysis of corporate donations to BLM finds that the woke bank spent precious dollars it turns out it didn't have to prop up BLM.

As it turns out, SVB was a massive donor to Black Lives Matter and other social justice causes, to the tune of nearly $74 million dollars. $73,450,000 to be more exact.

The figure comes from an extensive report dropped by the Claremont Institute on Tuesday. The report details $82 billion dollars in social justice/BLM investments by major American companies. SVB stands out as one of the larger donors, next to big donors like Apple ($100 million) and Comcast ($165 million). While at the top of the donation pool, those contributors do pale in comparison to donors like Blackrock ($810 million) and Citigroup ($1.1 billion). However, the group did pledge on their website to provide in total up to $11 billion dollars by 2026 for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) programs and racial justice causes.

SVB executives explained on their website the turbulent racial atmosphere following the George Floyd killing and protests prompted them to expand "opportunities for dialogue," a calling that doesn't seem too have much concrete investment return, but ended up taking $74 million dollars out of bank coffers anyway.

When they weren't spending the bank's assets on buying BLM a luxury Trap House, they were focusing on making prudent investments that would keep the bank solvent.

Nah, just pulling your leg, when they weren't donating to BLM they were making "diversity" and "climate" "investments."

The company's Corporate Responsibility report leaned heavily on their Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) actions. Some of the report's major concerns included:

* Climate and environmental finance and investment
* Climate and environmental risk management
* Climate and environmental impacts from operations
* Diversity, equity and inclusion across our leadership, workforce, supply chain and communities
* Community Development, financial inclusion and economic equality
* Quality of leadership (including skills and diversity)

You'll be happy to know that this bank that failed and cost the American taxpayers billions was very "diverse" and pursued "equity," meaning, guaranteed equal outcomes no matter what the actual level of ability of employees or no matter how risky the investments.

It also touted their diversity efforts, reporting their hired their "first Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer (CDEIO)" and "enhanced workforce and Board diversity metrics."

We provide DEI learning tracks and programming, integrating content into our overall learning experiences at SVB. Courses range from raising awareness of unconscious bias to mitigating micro-behaviors to promote inclusivity. In 2019 we piloted programs focused on allyship, and in 2020 we hosted a series of Conversation Circles enterprise-wide to address systemic racism and social oppression.

Company reports highlighted their workforce as 67% "diverse", including 45% of the total workforce being made up of women, and 40% minorities.

BREAKING: California Governor Gavin Newsom lobbied the White House and Treasury on the bailout of Silicon Valley Bank, without disclosing that his private wineries had reportedly been the bank's clients & he may have even had a personal account at the bank, per the Intercept

Thanks to andycanuck.

Tucker Carlson points out that this $74 million wasn't actually wasted -- indeed, spending this money got the Regime to bail the bank out. Or at least, bail out its woke tech depositors.

In other news: Larger banks had offers out to buy Silicon Valley Bank. These private buyers would have used their own money to shore up Silicon Valley's finances and avoid a wipeout.

But Biden's leftwing regulators blocked these attempted purchases, because they had a "whitelist" of approved woke buyers and the buyers interested in SVB weren't on that whitelist.

So now we all own Silicon Valley Bank.

Not specifically, but it's just one more piece of evidence that our ruling elite care more about virtue signaling with other people's money than with actually doing their jobs.

What kind of private company should be giving money to charities at all? None, I say. It's evidence of a company that's been at least partially taken over by, at best, do-gooders who see a successful businesses as their personal piggy bank. Actual do-gooders don't seek out that kind of position all that often, though.

It's more like money laundering blended with embezzlement. They took the owners' money (that is, the shareholders, who should have gotten that money through a dividend) and laundered it out to domestic terror groups under the guise of "charity."

"Corporate giving" shouldn't exist. The officers who get rich by running or owning the company, or the shareholders who partake in the profit through dividends, can give to whatever charities they like. The company should not. Ever. Give that money back to your owners and let them do with it what they please.

99 Dudes, I think we all knew the left would blame these bank issues on Trump and "evil capitalism", but there's even MORE bogeymen!

the bank run happened because of Twitter rumors. I would not be surprised if Musk manipulated Twitter to elevate messages about SVB. Musk is very involved in financing startups and wants the competition for them eliminated so he can corner more technology.

It was really Peter Thiel who I happen to think is one of the worst human beings in the world. I happened to catch a remark he made about taking his money out. Before it hit the
fan.

Could the banking problems have been caused by the disruption of Russian money laundering through the banks?
Both sides are playing politics on this and I think it makes us look small. No bank can survive a run. This turned out to be a bad bet on Treasury bonds. I don't think they thought Powell would raise rates this quickly. I don't think Powell saw the downside of his actions.

It is not woke and with even the pre 2018 repeal this bank would still have gone under. Like I said no bank can withstand a run.

I'm guessing "bigger bank", with the goal being 4 or 5 banks having complete control over the money supply before it switches to digital and mandatory digital ID / social credit scores.

I heard it discussed on a local radio show yesterday. They're actively working to make the small banks collapse as we speak.

2021:
"By putting (regional banks) customers’ deposits into investments such as loans or securities, like Treasury bonds, banks make the money needed to pay interest on those deposits and pocket a profit. "

2023
"...raising the risk of a crisis in confidence in U.S. banks, one in which government bonds would be the “toxic asset” at the center of it all."

This was all planned, same as everything else.

Being short on cash is one thing. That is an easy answer to provide. The teller can just say, "we're short on hard currency at the moment. May I give you a Cashier's Check instead?"

Demanding to know the *reason* someone wants a cash withdrawal - especially a modest one - is unacceptable. That speaks to something cancerous within the bank. The bank either views the client's money as its own and will only release it for a "good" reason, or the bank is out of money and trying to prevent withdrawals from happening at all. Either is good enough reason to drop that bank as quickly as possible.

The *only* time a teller should balk at a cash withdrawal is if it is extremely large. And even then, make the reason for the question very clear up front. Something like, "this is a large sum of money and so we're worried about fraud or extortion. Were you asked to withdraw this money by another party, or have you been contacted by a potentially bad actor?" is fine.

The inside information he'd be acting on is also up to question. It seems unlikely he was told that far in advance his bank was being seized. So the only case you can make is that he was aware the situation for the bank was rapidly deteriorating, but the most dramatic stuff only occurred last week.

No need for that. "I will be closing this account. I need to discuss with that branch manager. Please get him or her for me."

I've been exactly there before. I was a member of a local CU that was quite good. It renamed, rebranded, updated all of their branches, got a lot fancier and sponsored a college stadium all in fairly short order. Virtually overnight, they started behaving like a big bank - including making things harder on customers and getting uppity like a big bank.

I had enough one day. They slapped me with a bogus fee and I went in to contest it. I got the run-around. I pulled a Karen, requested to speak with the manager, and told her precisely why I was closing all of accounts - and that I expected her to process it immediately.

Interest rate increases were public information though so trading on them wouldn't have been illegal.
