Here's a story that didn't get much play from the Truth-Telling Regime media: Glaxo-Smith Klein hid the cancer risk of its best-selling anti-heartburn drug Zantac for forty years.

This story is actually from mid-February. Did any of you hear about this?

GSK (GSK) American Depository Shares lost ~2% pre-market Wednesday after a new report from Bloomberg Businessweek claimed that the British drugmaker chose to keep quiet on the cancer risks of the recalled heartburn medication Zantac.
Zantac, also known as ranitidine, was pulled from the U.S. market in 2020 amid concerns over the unacceptable levels of potential human carcinogen, N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA).
Since then, the makers of Zantac generics, including Sanofi (SNY) (OTCPK:SNYNF), GSK (GSK), Pfizer (PFE), and Boehringer Ingelheim GmbH, have faced thousands of lawsuits for failure to adequately warn health risks of the antacid.
Citing court filings, studies, FDA transcripts, and new drug applications obtained through the Freedom of Information Act requests, Bloomberg said that the FDA considered the cancer risks when greenlighting the medication, but GSK (GSK) withheld key study data.
Even worse, the company, then known as GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), supported flawed studies to minimize the concerns and opted against using methods such as routine transport and storage that would have lessened the impact.
In one instance, ahead of pursuing approval for an injectable version of ranitidine, John Padfield, the head of pharmaceutical development of GSK (GSK), warned in 1982 that this version of the drug had to be kept chilled from importation to the warehouse storage.
Not doing so would be "a very dangerous thing," Padfield argued in March and the company executives wrote several months later that "refrigeration of the injection would not be acceptable to Glaxo marketing."

Via David Strom, the UK Telegraph reports than a Wales government-promoted education resource tells teachers and school administrators that children as young as seven might be a "mixed berry gender fluid muffin," and not to assume any child's gender just based on how they look, dress, or speak, or base assumptions on their gender about what their gender actually F*CKING IS.

The 170-page "Agenda" pamphlet, which has been promoted to all schools in Labour-run Wales, claims that biological sex "is not just 'male' and 'female'" and lectures teachers on how some "want to change our gender pronouns (eg. from he to she) or want to be 'agender'", where they have no gender.
It has been described as the latest "highly inappropriate" example of sex and relationships education in Britain's schools to emerge, with critics claiming the Welsh First Minister Mark Drakeford is "determined to push gender ideology".
An investigation by The Telegraph found last week that pupils in some secondary schools have been told there are 100 genders and children are being taught gender fluidity as fact in some major academy trusts and independent schools, which led to Rishi Sunak ordering an urgent review this week.

That one's a parody; they offer up some very silly genders ("Pet which walked across the keyboard"), which will all be added to the garish Pride Flag in a couple of weeks at most.

Michael Longfellow, a stand-up from Phoenix, has earned comparisons to Bill Hader, while Miami native Marcello Hernández, the show's first Gen Z'er, is establishing himself as the flirty new class clown. Molly Kearney, a boisterous and exuberant presence, happens to be SNL's first nonbinary cast member.

I used to take Zantac too. Stopped a few years ago. I may try Apple Cider Vinegar pills. Hadn't thought of that one. Certain foods set my stomach off. Pizza mainly and I love pizza.

But it really freaking works. That's the frustrating part. Like diarrhea medicine, this stuff does what you pay for. Its not like 90% of medicine that might slightly help, it just does what you want, every time.

And Forbes is putting these ESG failures on its front page because its being paid to. Literally, they are simply printing what someone pays them to. Its part of a full court press to get ESG stocks as the core of every business and they are a massive failure.

I don't think it's *only* grift (though in Granholm's case that's a lot of it). The textbook for the World Geography course I've been teaching this year grudgingly acknowledges that China is now a leading source of air pollution, but also claims that they've been quicker to tackle the problem of "carbon emissions" because of their culture's greater appreciation for the environment, or something.

It's just part of leftist fascination with non-Western cultures that are so superior to our own civilization, except in all the things that matter.

Horses are dumb and freak out at the most random stuff. That rake looks like a snake! RUN! That grass moved because of the wind, its a lion, RUN!

This is an aspect that rarely comes up in faction or especially gaming. Horses are treated like meat motorcycles. They go where you point them then stand outside the dungeon and just wait for you to come back. They never freak out and throw you in the middle of a peaceful ride. They don't rear up and stomp you to red chunks on the forest floor when you fire a gun next to their super sensitive ears.

Horses are really cool but... unstable.

Its only still on the air because sometimes their movies make a lot of money (well, they used to, what was the last big SNL alum hit?) and there's really nothing else to run that time of night.

Maybe the reboot of In Living Color will be better, it was consistently way more funny than SNL was when it originally ran.

Back when I was a kid I knew three families that had lost a young child to some childhood disease or food allergy. That kind of stuff just doesn't happen much anymore. Advances in medicine and 911 technology has let those kids that would have died from weird problems as kids to live, thrive and procreate. Of course we are going to have more and more people who have food allergy issues because of that.

But the poisoning of our food, and that's what I will call it, I believe is the biggest factor. One thing I was amazed with when I lived in Europe was how much better and fresher the local dairy, meat and vegetables were (in most places).

Counting calories would show most people that they are consuming way more than they can hope to burn. Unless you're consciously keeping track, you're almost certainly over your daily allowance. It never quite did the job of chewing a tum or two but she was a good old gal and stuck with dr's orders. We were floored when was diagnosed with lung cancer after a decade + of using Zantac. Have you ever tried activated charcol? Dutch friend told me about it's common usage in Holland years ago. My stomach is cast iron but hubby's is...sensitive. The charcol takes the acid away pretty quickly...10-15 mins. Also works when your dumbo labrador eats a box of raisins and you need to detox him quick!

I'm lucky to have a cast iron digestive system (on the whole). I too had (mild) problems with commercial pizza and Mexican food. Tomato was the problem. I'd take a Rolaid or similar. I don't have that problem any longer and I've always wondered if there was, perhaps, a certain variety of tomato that affected me.

I've got to pipe in here: vinegar is a weak acid. When it is placed in a solution containing a strong acid, in order for the solution to maintain "equilibrium, some of the vinegar anions attach to loose H+ ions from the strong acid giving you pain, thereby neutralizing it.

Most definitely. Things such as Tums are just calcium or magnesium carbonate. Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate, i.e., the half-protonated form of the carbonate dianion.

Close. Acetic acid won't appreciably ionize at stomach pH, so there won't be any appreciable amount of "vinegar anions." Specifically, if IIRC stomach pH is ~ 2, that implies that ~0.001% of the acetic acid in vinegar would be deprotonated, i.e., acting as an acid. (Recall the pH scale is logarithmic, and the pKa of acetic acid is just under 5.
