"... if more than 3% of your customers want to withdraw their money at the same time."
You just described a Ponzi scheme. People put money in the bank. The bank lent out 10 times the amount deposited. People want their money back cuz that sounds shady. Oops ... the bank let out more money than it took in. Let's see ... if you lend out money you don't have, that's a lot like counterfeiting money from thin air. Oops ... the bank let out more money than it took in. Unless there's more to the story than has been reported so far, no. in college I was taught that banking all over the world teeters on the edge. (except government banks which just print more money). It must have been an experience banking back in old west where the bank you put money into would be unable to cover a run on the bank Maybe some did, but a bank robbery could sink and bank quickly, and you lost everything. Gold was the only sure thing back then.

Judge Kyle Duncan, a federal appeals judge appointed by Donald Trump, was invited to speak at Stanford on Thursday, only for a law school dean to publicly berate him for his rulings. 'They feel harmed not just by your speech - because if it was just words that would be one thing. You have authority and power to make decisions that impact the lives of millions,' said Tirien Steinbach, the associate dean for diversity, equity and inclusion. She asked him: 'Is the juice worth the squeeze?' When Duncan tried to reply, students screamed: 'Let her finish!' The angry students are so woke they clicked their fingers instead of applauding.

It's supposed to be less humid this morning and less hot too. Rain tomorrow sometime, and then on Monday temps more the way March should be (high 56) instead of sticky soup.
When it gets light I'll decide if I can wash the car this morning. If the roads are still damp from last night's rain, there's no point in washing the dirt off the car. On the other hand, yellow pollen has been sifting onto the car all week, and the rain last night may have just clotted it. Perhaps a quick rinse is in order. Knowles.
It is all or nothing. If transgenderism is true—if men really can become women—then it is true for everybody of all ages. If transgenderism is false (as it is)—if men really can’t become women (as they cannot)—then it’s false for everybody too. And if it’s false, then we should not indulge it, especially since that indulgence requires taking away the rights and customs of so many people. If it is false, then for the good of society, and especially for the good of the poor people who have fallen prey to this confusion, transgenderism must be eradicated from public life entirely—the whole preposterous ideology, at every level. She was a Democrat too but would be appalled at what the Democrat party had become and would be completely opposed to censorship of books such as that of Roald Dahl. Does anyone think Henry Fonda who at one time considered being a journalist in the 1920's would think Big Brother censorship was a good thing or that he would believe in transgenderism?

It wasn't that long ago we were pushing 80 degrees here in Kentucky. The last 3-4 days it has struggled to hit 50. All the trees and shrubs think it's spring and are either pushing out leaves or are in bloom. Monday night - Wednesday morning here it's expected to be in the low 20's, perhaps upper teens.

No; I think Henry's Fonda was a liberal Democrat. I don't think a liberal Democrat who died in their 80's in 1983 would be the same as a leftist Democrat today. Would former Democrat NY Congressman Daniel Patrick Moynihan be a crazy leftist who thinks women can become men? I doubt it. Of course, Henry Fonda isn't at round to ask his opinion of leftism today.

How much work do people that speak up against the Democrats get in Hollywood? Modern-day Fonda would be at the awards shows and wearing the pussy hat with the rest of the Hollywood scum.

SVB is - was - a proper, regulated bank so if you had less than $250k in your account it's insured and you'll have access to it on Monday. If you had half a billion in there - like Roku - you're not going to be seeing your money any time soon. (CNBC)
--------- From what I've seen at ZeroHedge's twatter account and other links there, there were alot of small companies with just millions there [and not tens and tens of] but also Venture Capitalists. It looks like the plan might be to have a mega-bank take over to cover the deposits. Posted by: andycanuck (Vwz3I) at March 11, 2023 08:12 AM (Vwz3I) 215

I don't know if this has been covered but this interesting table just showed up on the tweets:
https://is.gd/HpJvku So taking the opposite number would be the number of accounts having uninsured deposits, whether the amount was 1 dollar over or 500K dollars over. It's all good, because I'm sure the Biden admin has chosen the most competent people to fix this. The Fed used to have a rule no bank could hold more than 10 per cent of consumer deposits. It was a good rule, but it retarded JP Morgan's growth so it had to go. In return, Dimon often agrees to take on messes like SVB. I don't know anything but I wouldn't be surprised if Morgan didn't show up in this mess over the weekend. Mega-bank may as well be the government .

Oh, they will try to reassure you that the PA SOS is akshually a republican. But he is a republican who ran the elections in Philly for years, so that is what we got statewide now. But Trump is gonna ballot harvest or something.

Re: the FDIC, I recall seeing an interview with one of the FDIC brass a number of years ago on CNBC where they said essentially that the system is fragile and can't actually backstop more than one or two mid sized banks. Should have been a yuuuuge scandal at the time, but of course it wasn't. And I doubt anything about that has changed, since government gonna government.
So yes, if we start having bank runs it could get very ugly very fast. Posted by: CppThis at March 11, 2023 10:26 AM (PZvjL) 228
to be absolutely clear, the management team at SVB was more concerned with image points than operating a bank. They published how "green" the bank was and the descriptions written by employees about themselves was all about "equity" and not about ability. The bank was woke. Their ENTIRE portfolio of securities was not hedged. Hence when the Fed started moving they were underwater. If they had been hedged, no problems

MarketWatch reports that the failure of Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) has sent shockwaves through the tech startup community, with fears that it could set innovation back by a decade. Garry Tan, the CEO of startup accelerator Y Combinator, called it an “extinction-level event” for startups, warning that the loss of these small businesses could significantly impact the economy.
