Animal Action Stars Cafe

byjoemackin.jpg
by Joe Mackin

I don't know where that is, unfortunately. Alberta Oil Peon thinks it might be the Bow River in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada. This picture shows the Bow River with the same crystal-blue color.

A new kind of ski looks like small snowboards you wear, one on each foot.

Awww, how can you be mad at him...?

Happy dog prance.

Little crab makes a Man Cave.

Mama ape kissing baby ape.

Funky bird.

Cat practicing to be in a nineties action movie. Maybe that reference is too obscure. I just remember that sometime during the nineties, someone watched a John Woo movie, and suddenly every hero was sliding across the floor while shooting a gun.

Speaking of action movies -- this dog is a SEAL. He's about to take out a sentry.

Approaching the precious object in a thief-like way.

The cat made its Stealth roll.

Scared little puppy tries barking to warn bigger dogs away, but he's just not very intimidating yet.

I need to be on you.

Me trying to find enough cute animal videos for a Cafe.

Did someone say "Friday"?

Very cute. Bella was rescued from an abusive backyard breeding situation. She became a companion/protector to a blind dog who was rescued with her.

Because her babies were taken from her too quickly, she has an unsatisfied/frustrated mothering instinct. She now mothers any small animals her owners bring into the house, especially bunnies.

She gets to feel like a mom a lot now.

This week I posted video of an elephant who kept stopping trucks to grab stuff they were carrying -- I think it might have just been tall grass -- to eat off them like they were snack trucks.

He stopped a lot of trucks. This wasn't a one-off; he had chosen this as his new foraging strategy.

It turns out that he's not the only elephant who has thought of this:

I bet people whose job is to be caretakers to pandas live about 10 years longer than average.

19 I did have a kitten hide in a tissue box, but she crawled right in there while I watched. I had it out for some reason down where she was.

I have also searched a long time for a disappearing kitten. Crawling up into box springs is a good one, but the best was going behind a open bookshelf on the end near an open door and getting behind the books. The last book was a super long Atlas book and it closed in the end making a long thin cubbyhole, perfect for a little kitten that wanted some safe sleeping spot.

The previous owners DYI job left a giant hole under there, and I had to go to youtube to find mama cat noises to lure her back out. It took a long time. Then we had to stuff the hole full of towels so she couldn't get in there again.

105 Disproportionately affects POC who can't afford filters or bottled water:

In the past, fluoridation chemicals were obtained from the wet scrubbing systems of the phosphate fertilizer industry and added to many public water supplies in the United States to reduce tooth decay. It is now recognized by dental researchers that fluoride’s primary benefit comes from topical application and does not need to be swallowed to prevent tooth decay.

The FAN states that “in recent years, however, an increasing number of water departments have begun purchasing their fluoride chemicals from China.

The NTP’s 2019 Systematic Review of Fluoride Exposure and Neurodevelopment and Cognitive Health Effects concluded that “ … fluoride is presumed to be a cognitive neurodevelopmental hazard to humans.” They state that “This conclusion is based on a consistent pattern of findings in human studies across several different populations showing that higher fluoride exposure is associated with decreased IQ or other cognitive impairments in children.”

I saw Black Goat of the Woods open for Delapoer's Rats at the WOW Hall in the early 90's

T'wasn't a grandpa. Homer thought he was a bad-ass, challenging everyone to duels, because everyone always backed down. Until that one fateful day...

'Oh, why did I have to slap a guy who says "suh"?'

170 South Pacific, Oookahoma maybe?

Definitely not Music Man.
Posted by: JEM at March 10, 2023 09:52 PM (8erNz)

Actually, South Pacific and Oklahoma are acceptable.

In general, I do not like musicals. Which is funny, since I was Barnaby Tucker in my high school's production of Hello Dolly. But hey, I kissed more girls then than my previous 11 years of school.

seems all are in for the destruction of the Republic...

We are fucking sick to death of Colorado. To the point that we are no longer looking at homes on the west side of the hill. We like towns like Craig and Meeker, but, well, still Colorado.

Fuck Colorado.

I feel the same about eastern Washington.

174 Heading to Wyoming, Nebraska and Kansas, scouting locations to move to a retirement homestead. (We have not ruled out Texas and Oklahoma)

Idaho? There are parts of Tennessee that seem promising. Spent quite a bit of time in NE in my life I could live in/near Kearney, better light industrial base for hobby projects (cars, etc) than in much of California these days. But very hot in summer...

Good luck in your hunt.

Idaho ought to annex all of Washington east of the Columbia River.

177 Tomorrow my bride is kicking me out of the house so that she can do some spring cleaning.

Any chance I can sync her up with Mrs.D?

Posted by: Diogenes at March 10, 2023 10:02 PM (anj39)

178 Actually, my bride has ruled out only a couple of places, Montana and Alaska. Which sucks, because I love both. But we are not ruling out a lot of places. Idaho is definitely in the mix. Neither of us like humidity, so we are not going to be too close to the Mississippi. We did like the Texas Hill Country.

179 This dirty town has been my home since last time I was sailing,
But I'll not stay another day, I'd sooner go out whaling,

Chorus:
Oh lord above, send down a dove with wings as sharp as razors,
To cut the throats of them there blokes what sells bad beer to sailors!

I do know that most of Oregon would love to become part of Idaho.

And many counties in Colorado would love to join Wyoming.

fuck it all.
