Sorry, I should have mentioned this in my earlier post, but I didn't know about it then.
Not only did Fauci "prompt" -- commission -- an article clearing the lab he funded from complicity in creating the plague that killed the world, and not only did he then pay off the scientists who he commissioned to write it with $9 million of taxpayer grants from his Science Slush Fund, but he also showed off the letter to the media as independent proof that covid evolved naturally -- and pretended that he had just stumbled across it, and had nothing to do with it. When in fact he commissioned the article, and in fact had final editorial say over its final form. This slippery malignant dwarf needs to have contempt of Congress and perjury charges brought against him."I don't have the authors right now." He means, "I can't cite the authors' names for you to look up, but I'll have my people let me know who wrote it, and get those names to you." Of course he knew exactly who those authors were -- he had browbeat them into writing the article, and then later he paid them off with taxpayer millions. He was lying about "not having the authors" to create separation between them, to make this look like an independent third-party article. It wasn't -- it was a Fauci production from the start. He just kept his name out of the credits of the final release. But he's all about The Science, right? The Political Science. He is the scumbaggiest, most devious cocksucker little dwarf liar in DC.
New emails uncovered by House Republicans probing the COVID-19 pandemic reveal the deceptive nature of Dr. Anthony Fauci. They show he "prompted" or commissioned -- and had final approval on -- a scientific paper written specifically in February 2020 to disprove the theory that the virus leaked from a lab in Wuhan, China. Eight weeks later, Fauci stood at a White House press conference alongside President Donald Trump and cited that paper as evidence that the lab leak theory was implausible while pretending it had nothing to do with him and he did not know the authors. "There was a study recently," he told reporters on April 17, 2020, when asked if the virus could have come from a Chinese lab, "where a group of highly qualified evolutionary virologists looked at the sequences ... in bats as they evolve and the mutations that it took to get to the point where it is now is totally consistent with a jump of a species from an animal to a human. "So, the paper will be available. I don't have the authors right now, but we can make it available to you."
That paper, titled "The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2," was sent to Fauci for editing in draft form and again for final approval before it was published in Nature Medicine on Feb. 17, 2020. It was written four days after Fauci, and his NIH boss Dr. Francis Collins, held a call with the four authors to discuss reports that COVID-19 may have leaked from the Wuhan lab and "may have been intentionally genetically manipulated." The House Oversight subcommittee published emails Sunday in which the paper's co-author Dr. Kristian Andersen admits Fauci "prompted" him to write the paper with the goal to "disprove" the lab leak theory.
They also refuse to admit that Biden's business partners in China created covid.

RealClearPolitics reporter Philip Wegmann asked Kirby for the current Biden administration stance on "gain-of-function" research, which makes viruses more dangerous and transmissible for research purposes -- as was done with US funding at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China before the devastating pandemic began nearby. "Does the president believe that this type of gain-of-function research is prudent?" Wegmann asked. "He believes that it's important to help prevent future pandemics, which means he understands there has to be legitimate scientific research into the sources or potential sources of pandemics so that we understand it so that we can prevent them," Kirby said.

We did have Mexico running effective border control at their own southern border for a while. While the opening terms are unlikely to happen, it's not a bad way to start the conversation both as pressure on China and as a message to other countries about what sort of positions to adopt.

I would think trying to enter into a legally-binding contract where one or both parties are involved in breaking the law would automatically void the contract.
Now if two criminal entities enter into a handshake agreement, that's a different story. The penalties for breaking that sort of contract can be swift and lethal if they aren't careful.

My objection was that researchers don't typically control money. That's done by the sponsor houses, so a researcher can't really "commission" confirmatory work. It IS true that there can be a bit of a revolving door between the sponsor houses and researchers, so that some mutual backscratching occurs, but that is usually limited to politically charged topics like climate change.

The US government funded research to turn a common cold virus, into a highly contagious and deadly virus based on the much less contagious SARS 1. Any real purpose beyond *exactly what happened* has never been credibly proposed. How are we to take governments' manufacturing uncontrollably contagious human killing viruses?

The only remotely justifiable claim to engineering a virus that I have seen from any credible source is doing that enables them to anticipate what *may* evolve in nature so they can get ahead of the curve in vaccine development. I am no virologist but that does seem within the realm of possibility.

I'm fine with this criticism. But each and everytime it is lodged, the person making this point should have to name a viable alternative nominee or candidate that realisitically accounts for: (1) the fact that both parties are beholden to the deep state in a way that makes anti-deep state nominees or candidates from within the ranks of the parties limited in number; (2) the fact that Trump's own party would not even recess so that it could avoid recess appointments and limit Trump's appointment power to the maximum extent possible; and (3) the fact that many government functionaries are not readily fireable.

I just found out how badly I could suck at a task I do almost every day.
I was making myself some coffee. The grinding went fine. Then pouring the grounds out of the hopper, I missed the filter cup for a good portion of the pour. I don't know why I ended up shaking the filter cup, but I did and scattered more grounds, and then grounds over the rim and into the hinge that interfered with closing the lid. Then I thought to blow that excess away--but grounds are light, and I actually ended up blowing grounds from the filter cup all over the counter.
Then, in the middle of this, I had to go to the bathroom, so I quickly brushed the grounds away until the filter pack could close and went, thinking I could clean up later. And came back to see I hadn't set a cup underneath the dispenser.
Then later, I spilled about 2 oz over the floor. Which is something I never do.

Willowed from last thread, but those who want to visit DC, I'd recommend staying in VA and taking the VRE or Uber/Lyft in to see the monuments and the museums you'd like. The spring is a perfect time to come, and if you stay on the side or law and order, you can actually walk outside at night and go to dinner without being harassed. In spring of 2020 we were still seeing stories out of CHINA speculating about mass burning of bodies at night based upon thermal satellite imaging.
