Faced with regulating the thing they are trying to regulate, Europe's plans have fallen into chaos.

I just want to say that this article is dumb, Politico is dumb, the EU is dumb, and ChatGPT is particularly dumb.

This quote is spot on, though:

Phones are basically good enough. You can keep using them until they break, and then buy a new one. And there's not much difference between a midrange phone and a flagship model, except that the flagships tend to be missing things like headphone jacks and micro SD slots.

Speaking of which, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 seems to be selling at half price, which makes it only a horribly expensive small Android table rather than a psychotically expensive small Android tablet. Apparently the Fold 4 is out, which again, I didn't notice because honestly who cares?
In a similar vein if you're gaming at 2560x1440, the 65W $249 Ryzen 7600 delivers 90% of the performance of the 320W $589 6GHz Intel 13900KS. (Tom's Hardware)

Because games rarely need more than six cores. If you're doing 3D rendering or computational fluid dynamics, different story. But you're probably not.

(I had a simple task to do today that totally wedged my laptop for an hour and a half. I really do need something better, but again a 7600X would probably do.)

Disclaimer: Every time I buy something these days its with the tacit - or explicit - assumption that if I don't it will never be available ever again. It's getting a little tiresome.

Ditto plus reading and knowing all the seminal relational database papers beginning with Codd. Jim Grey even gave us his smoking hairy goofball lecture one day. For extra credit we had to build from scratch an Oberon complier. It was a lot of fun and that I survived is a miracle.

Probably cheaper phones around, but the camera is good, and easy setup. My nephew just got a new I phone for 600, but he is a Apple fan I guess. Not sure what his phone does to make it so expensive, but to each his own.

66 I can appreciate the database lesson, it’s always nice to have an idea of what’s going on under the hood. Especially now that entity based data access is taking over. And you can do all your standard data base routines without knowing a bit of SQL (until you need more then the most basic functionality)

To put it another way: you can tell the difference between a coder who learned C C and C++, one who started in Java/C#, one who started late in the Java/C# game and relies heavily on package managers, and one who graduated in the last 3 years and knows what those 67 pronouns mean but can’t code their way out of a paper bag.

It can often come up with a close-enough answer about a new API faster than the close-enough answers from google+stackoverflow.

Of course, only a fool blindly copies from either.

Well, they made like a wine concentrate. It was not meant to be drank straight. It makes a certain amount of sense to do it that way, as the higher alcohol concentration would tend to keep things from growing in it and hence store longer.
