23 Le Touquet is a small seaside town in northern France. It’s known for its wide beach, a water sports hub, and for its lively nightlife, which includes clubs and casinos. Phare Le Touquet is a red-brick lighthouse with far-reaching views of the sea and countryside. The Musée du Touquet displays modern and contemporary art, plus works by regional artists. Fresh produce is on offer at the art deco–style Covered Market.

A toque is not a beanie. Toques are knitted caps that are sort of conical, and typically have a pompom at the point. They are quite roomy, and can be pulled down to cover the ears if conditions require it. There are knitted watch caps out there, not so roomy, and lacking pompoms.

I think her fear isn't the chemical itself but what the people behind it would do with said chemicals if they could.

Putting the ahem "vaccine" aside, is there a doubt in your mind, based on everything you've seen from the Left, that if they could secretly put something in everyday food to make you behave a certain way or agree with them or go along with their plans (say reducing the planets population), that they wouldn't hesitate if they thought they could get away with it?

337 I've said for a long time that that was the main difference between Left and Right in this country.

That (at least before) our side wouldn't secretly force everyone to take a pill to make them agree with us. And that the Left would.

The left has made everything they believe in a matter of life and death if not all life on the planet. So it makes it easy for them to do something objectively bad to advance the cause.

Yes and no is my guess. The libraries have to pay for the books, so that boosts sales numbers. And if people read and enjoy the books, they might purchase copies for themselves, or seek out other works by the author.
It is a lot of work and effort to create a good book, and the author deserves recompense for said effort, just as anyone who works.

They're building moats. COVID more than any other event showed that the experts were fools or stupid. Their ideas were bad and their work product was lousy. Non-experts - amateur enthusiasts, basically - did work of much higher average quality. Their groups were rife with disagreement and passionate argument. And the final product was much, much, much better.

So where does this leaves the experts and the hangers-on who abdicated and outsourced their own opinions to those experts? It leaves them in a defensive position. They're under attack in a very real way by outsiders. The recent explosion in "you can't say X because you don't have a degree in it, or a book about it, or a government seal of approval, or whatever" is defensive. They want to maintain their castles against the peasant uprising and so they're building moats around them. This attitude is one such moat.

Interesting question...

I know from my own experience that I LOVED libraries as a kid because I could read as many books as I wanted for FREE! Now that I'm an adult (with moderate disposable income), I'm discovering that there are a lot of books I read when I was younger--because of my access to a library--that I now want to own. So it's a "delayed purchase" that never would have happened without a library.

Kindle Unlimited may serve a similar purpose. For a small fee, you can read as many books as you want. And if you really like a book (or author), you may be inclined to make a full purchase.

There are two ways lefty ideas get disseminated. This is one way - you can wander over to DU or the like and see the process.

But these ideas are NOT allowed to be given to the general public.

The leadership of the left decides which ideas to move forward with and works through their mouthpieces in the FNM to disseminate them to the activist class.

At this point the idea will go overnight from "some thing only really idealistic activists believe in" to "basic middle of the road common sense"

Canada actually has something similar for bricks-and-mortar libraries. I'm not sure of the details, but basically libraries send in records of how many times each book has been borrowed, then the government sends a check to the author based on that -- but only to Canadian authors. They're totally different things. One is political wonks making noise about things that don't really matter to the daily lives of real people and the other was a massive disruption - indeed, a destruction - of the daily lives of real people.

There was a major failure prior to COVID that exposed real-world consequences, which was foreign policy. Trump dumped the conventional foreign policy wisdom and cut a new path with really remarkable success. That was a major salvo against the expert rule but even that was small potatoes compared to COVID. People appreciated peace, of course, but the destruction of the idea of the competent classical postwar foreign policy expert had little day-to-day effect. COVID was the destroyer that really matters.

No, I don't recall it being a thing either & I'm older than 29. Therefore, it must have something to do with 'abortion (health) care' and the very old, unnecessary ERA. (March 3, 2023, 5:15 AM, BloombergLaw) Equal Rights Amendment Backers’ 100-Year Fight Turns to Congress)

In response, Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of President Zelensky's office said:

"Ukraine has nothing to do with the incident in the Baltic Sea and has no information about "pro-Ukrainian subversive groups."

The constant propaganda and lying have very real-world consequences, to be sure. But it will not lead to a peasant revolt or general disdain for the expert class. They get to lie about such things and remain comfortably ensconced in their towers.

COVID was a different story. It hit everyone's life, all at once, in huge ways, and the consequences were almost universally negative. And nothing got better, and anyone who asked questions was disparaged or silenced.

That stands out in a way that political games don't, and invites a much bigger reaction.
