Alex Murdaugh Verdict: GUILTY

I only heard about this case a few days ago. He's a bigshot lawyer in South Carolina who controlled the entire county through corruption and bribery. He often settled lawsuits for clients and then told them the suit hadn't been settled, pocketing the money. Avenatti-Style!

There's a documentary on HBO I started watching. This guy's ne'er-do-well Hunter-Biden-like drunkass son killed his girlfriend by driving a boat at high speeds into a bridge support. Then this guy attempted to cover it up and claim that some rando was actually driving the boat.

But that's not what he's on trial for. He's accused of killing his shit-for-brains son and his wife, from whom, I think, he was separated. Not sure of the motive.

(I was corrected about the motive possibly being about insurance.)

Let's check in with an expert:

They convicted him based on all the financial wrongdoing evidence the judge let in.

Alec Murdaugh IS a contemptible human being. A lying, thieving scumbag that stole MILLIONS from his clients. But I do not think he is a murderer.

Now, the documentary doesn't really go into detail about what evidence the state has, but of course, DA's, as he has been, sometimes get convictions without much evidence, merely because juries see the defendant as a piece of shit.

They weren't legally separated. She moved out of the family home some period I don't know before she was murdered. She was living in big house she personally owned. It came out after she was murdered that she'd started seeing a divorce lawyer not long before the murders.

I read a story months ago that friends of hers said she was sick and tired of checks she wrote on their joint account bouncing, and finding out at store checkouts that their joint credit cards were maxxed-out on occasion. But she couldn't get Alex to explain why.

The "BLOOD SPATTER" evidence was a COMPLETE LIE. There was no human blood or DNA on the shirt they tested. They did a screening blood test that detected either some blood or some laundry Bleach on the white T-Shirt.

They later used a human specific blood test and DNA Tests on 74 (Seventy Four) different samples from the T-Shirt. NO Human (or ferret) Blood. No DNA from Paul, or Maggie either. The State was forced to retract the entire blood spatter report from an Oklahoma hired gun "Expert."

126-year-old, 'well-preserved' ship found in Lake Huron
Scientists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) have discovered the remains of a 126-year-old shipwreck in Lake Huron, remarkably well-preserved for over a century, thanks to the cool waters in the Great Lakes. It is sitting upright on the lakebed with its three masts still standing.

The Ironton, a 58-metre-long ship, sank in 1894 after colliding with a grain hauler.

It sank quickly - dragging the captain and six sailors underwater before the lifeboat could be detached. Only two crewmembers survived.||

Dosage claims of Murdaugh is insane, 2000 mg per day.

That sounds insane, but addicts can develop quite a tolerance, and take doses that would kill a "naive" person dead right there.

That's a common OD mode for addicts. They go into withdrawal from lack of supply, then score some and take the previous dosage. Their tolerance had dropped in the meantime, and that "normal' dose is now lethal.

Part of me thought he'd still do it anyway, and happily confess if prosecuted. They had a terrific opportunity to do so that same night.

I believe the jury had to have wondered about this.

Well, if they're really sneaky, it occurs to me that a great way to obtain True Southern Justice aka reciprocity against a scumbag lawyer who exploited the system to protect the girl's killer would be to arrange things so that the weight of said system crashes down on the scumbag lawyer. Not saying that's what happens--I have zero knowledge of any of this beyond Ace's summary--but that too would be worth considering.

Good point. So long as you don't acutely OD on the opioid, it's not terribly hard on your body, like alcohol or PCP. However, over time, a regular acetaminophen habit (being the other ingredient in oxy/vico/whatever) will wreck your liver, especially when you have to increase your dosage to get more ope. 237 ||Ford Motor Company filed a US patent application that shows autonomous or semi-autonomous vehicles could potentially repossess themselves if their owners miss lease or loan payments.

The idea of self-driving cars repossessing themselves might sound dystopian, but it is not surprising that automakers are considering this technology to ensure payment. Repossession is a common practice, and as we've described recently, cracks are beginning to form in the subprime auto loan market (read: here & here).

While this patent application was first filed in Aug. 2021 and formally published on Feb. 23, it could be years before Ford implements such a technology.

The patent, titled "Systems and Methods to Repossess a Vehicle," explains how a future lineup of Ford vehicles would be capable of "[disabling] a functionality of one or more components of the vehicle."||

=============
They located all the shotguns. About a half dozen different ones in the house. None of them could be directly, definitively tied to the two shotshells left at the scene of Paul's murder.

There were three 300 blackout rifles. One was stolen from Paul's truck several years ago, that was a twin to Buster's 300 Blackout with a sweet Night Vision scope. It was replaced by another, tan 300 blackout rifle that Paul may have lost a few months before murders too.

They never found the rifle or the shotgun. No one could locate the murder weapons. Why would Alec use two different weapons, and how did he get rid of them. On Star proved he went no where except to his mothers house and back that night. No stops. No detours.

Where did the guns and bloody clothes go?

They have both tylenol and non-tylenol versions. At one time, the acetaminophen containing formulations were a lower schedule, like Sch. 3, instead of 2.

So, it makes sense the pure opioid versions would be much more expensive.

Former President Donald Trump can be sued by injured Capitol Police officers and Democratic lawmakers over the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, the Justice Department said Thursday in a federal court case testing Trump's legal vulnerability for his speech before the riot.

In court papers, the Justice Department urged a federal appeals court in Washington to allow the lawsuits to move forward, writing that “no part of a President’s official responsibilities includes the incitement of imminent private violence."

Said he was in a not guilty train of thought til he heard the guy and saw all the lies get unearthed and refuted. And yeah, his jury was quick, too.

If you ask most defense attorneys, the biggest mistake the ones who do it make is to get on the stand and think they'll talk their way out of it. That almost always loses when you did do it...and you sink your own defense attorneys closing statement b/c you are what the jury remembers...

As I mentioned above, everything pretty much hinged on the recording of Murdaugh at the scene of of the crime shortly before the murders, which he testified that he was not at.

So, we can speculate all we want about who done it, but it more than likely was Murdaugh who killed his wife and son, and that's what the jury found.

The only people that removed guns from Murdaugh's house was SLED (the cops). They removed every 12 gauge and 300 Black out Rifle, and all the 12 gauge ammo and 300 Blackout ammo from his house that very night and the next day.

If that drone video existed, why wasn't it admitted into evidence, just like all the drone video was entered into evidence in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial?

Lots of rumors, lies and BS surrounding this trial. Just like the wrong BS that Kyle Rittenhouse shot three black dudes in Wisconsin. (they were all white)

340 Where did the guns and bloody clothes go?
Posted by: rd at March 02, 2023 08:27 PM (Z32m1)

Sounds to me like he had The Perfect Crime all figured out, but for a couple of loose ends. All On Star can prove is the vehicle didn't go any place it should not have. But the perp might have used another vehicle to dispose of the weapons and the bloody coveralls. Or a confederate.

I've been wondering for the last week if Murdaugh paid someone to actually pull the triggers using guns and ammo Alex gave him. That person could have been hiding in the woods by the kennel, with the guns, and come out when Alex gave him a signal.

Then he gets somehow gets out of Dodge still wearing the bloody clothes. This fills-in some of the holes in the evidence story, but raises a lot more. We'll never know how it went down unless Murdaugh confesses with all the details. Re: using two guns - Murdaugh may have known that one shooter using two long guns for a fast double murder is rare as hell. So he used two guns to throw off the cops.

343 So, we can speculate all we want about who done it, but it more than likely was Murdaugh who killed his wife and son, and that's what the jury found.

Convicted on "more than likely" is why we see dudes walking after ten, twenty, or more years.

This cat was convicted on grounds of being a known asshole. Pure and simple.

Posted by: Just The Way It Is at March 02, 2023 08:52 PM (9rMHA)

344 I've been watching the trial via Rekieta and Good Lawgic. The state did a hideous job IMO. They said NOTHING to convince me he murdered his wife and son. All the state harped on was financial crimes. Alex is a POS and does deserve prison, but I came away from the trial unconvinced he murdered his family.

346 It's worth noting that this is the direction that jury trials are going to go for normal folks, too. Assuming they're not already.

I'm guessing it's exactly how the January 6th trials work. And I'm betting a middle class white guy on a stand with a... diverse jury can be fairly easily manipulated into the previously mentioned "Well, he might not have done this, but you know he deserves it for something!!!"

350 @338

>>Can you explain the wife's cell phone?

No.

I've paid literally not attention to this trial and am just reading about it for the first time after the verdict.

Boiled down to it's essence, it's not a very complicated case, you got two dead people, a person on trial for their murder and a jury empaneled to deliberate on his guilt or innocence.

They found him guilty, I have no reason not to trust their verdict.

351 Those small town and rural South Carolina folks on the jury likely have a lot of experience that lets them spot a bald-faced liar a mile away
Posted by: Gref at March 02, 2023 08:31 PM (AMIL/)

I am from a miniscule north Georgia "town" far more rural than Walterboro SC ever thought about being, and I see your point, but most of us are also capable of understanding jury instructions and reasonable doubt.
They say Murdaugh killed his own wife and son, the son with two shots from a gawt-damned shotgun all but point blank, then shot his wife 5 times with 300 Blackout, cleaned himself completely clean of the results of that, got in the side by side and then his truck without getting any blood or brains or hairs in either vehicle, drove to his mom's house where the caretaker said he was definitely not covered in blood, then come back home, where no blood or brain matter or skull fragments were found anywhere, including in any drain in the house.
There was a drop of Maggie's blood on the steering wheel, which could be explained by the fact that Murdaugh said he took both their pulses when he found them. He's a liar, I think he likely did it, but I'd have still acquitted.

Posted by: Tammy al-Thor at March 02, 2023 08:56 PM (buF98)

352 Whoa. Just because you think there was reasonable doubt doesn't make it so. To say people who think the evidence presented both circumstantial and objective and the lies in his testimony was enough to convict ignored the rule of law is ridiculous.

Shorter ... a jury can never get it wrong. Believe all juries. Trust the process.

357 Also think there was unidentified male DNA under Maggie's nails, and she had just had a manicure that day. Not a lot of DNA at all, but again.... reasonable doubt.

At least for me.

I am all for scum being put away, but if there are reasonable explanations, all y'all supposed to give the defendant the benefit of the doubt. Keeps all our civil rights protected.

370 The Netflix special has a news reporter who used a drove to record the house after getting a tip that a warrant was being served. He captured family members (older son, brother?) taking guns out of the house.

If you were wondering where the guns went (the blackout 300 and the shotgun most likely)
