In Kim Gardener's St. Louis, a Man Nonchalantly Walked Up Behind a Homeless Man and Shot Him in the Back of the Head For No Apparent Motive

And the execution was all recorded on video.

A St. Louis man was arrested Tuesday after video appeared to catch him nonchalantly shooting a homeless man execution-style in broad daylight.
Deshawn Thomas, 23, was arrested in connection with the Monday murder but has yet to the charged, police said.
Thomas can be seen struggling to load his gun as he stands right behind the homeless man, who is sitting on the curb just a few feet away, bystander video posted online shows.
He then appeared to fire on the yet-to-be-identified victim, who raised his arms at one point, but made no attempt to run away and seemed almost resigned to his fate, the video showed.
"Oh my god. He just f--king killed him," the witness can be heard saying.

Apparently the homeless man had "fended off" the attacker at a gas station just moments before. He ran from him, and the gunman followed.

It's possible the gunman was maybe someone sick of being bothered by the homeless man. I'm just speculating -- I don't know.

But even if that's the case -- that's still on Kim Gardener. When you cultivate chaos in your city, murder takes root.

Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley re-tweeted the video on Tuesday and called for St. Louis' embattled Circuit Attorney to resign.
"Kim Gardner must go. Prosecute the criminals," the Republican lawmaker wrote.
Before the video of the Monday murder surfaced, Gardner was already under fire after a driver facing felony charges for robbery -- who had violated his bail conditions multiple times -- hit a teenager earlier this month, causing her to lose her legs.

A very common statement you'll see now is, "Not my circus, not my monkeys." Or, "I have responsibilities to my family. If they're with me, I'm grabbing them and moving out. I'm only shooting to defend me and mine."

I can see the practical reasoning behind it. Getting involved in a gunfight is inherently very dangerous. If you're with loved ones especially, one or more of them may be hurt or killed.

However, there is a significant part of me that sees this as deep cowardice. I wonder of these people what it would take to intervene. What if it was a disabled man walking down a line of cowering toddlers? Would they step up? I think these are important questions to ask yourself ahead of time if you CCW. What would it take to step in and when do you bug out?

Read about the case that the gas station (Shell?) where the initial confrontation took place gets about 600 police calls last year. The abnormal has become the normal in too many places. The police ran the guy down not too long afterwards, which indicates that area is such a hot spot that the cops hang around knowing they'll get a call, or possibly even hear gunshots.

I have some sympathy for this viewpoint. And by some, I mean a lot. But it is not without flaws. Expecting lots of urbanites (the 25 to 30 percent of Republicans in urban settings apparently) to pick up and move can be a bit like Biden's expectation that coalminers can just learn to code. What are city dwellers, many of whom were born there, supposed to do? Move to Montana and become ranchers? Move to Wisconsin and become farmers? A lot of people have less freedom of action as a practical matter than we like to assume.

If you're white collar, you start applying everywhere, especially for remote positions, and get yourself financially ready to move.

Yeah, I mostly agree with this. I think some people have special circumstances. They may in the middle of treatment with a doctor or they have elderly relatives who need care. But for the most part, people resist moving because everything's familiar and they have always lived there.

Most people, if they make it their top priority, can move. Even poor people.

Even when it isn't heavily-armed, rural poverty is different.

I lived in a rich little enclave surrounded by rural poverty in NYS for several years. The poor areas were in disrepair, the people were miserable, there was no money except that which was spent to acquire a seemingly never-ending supply of drugs and booze.

But it wasn't exceptionally violent, at least not publicly. There was plenty of violence, but it tended to be one-on-one - a man and woman fighting or shooting at each other, a drug deal gone wrong, etc. - but you could walk down the street, buy gas, go to a store, attend school, etc. and not encounter that.

Been reading some books on Evil (e.g. people who do evil things). Genetics and environment play a role during peacetime. Some are born psychopathic, but via a good home end up being productive members of society. Others can grow up in a shitty, abusive environment and come out okay. The counter of these is also true. I was in a District Court a couple years ago, and yeah the person you just described was there facing trial. Beat up a young girl, put her in the hospital, stole her cellphone. His attorney was bi-lingual because he did not speak English.

Interesting. I wonder what the mechanics of that were. There are various ways any well-designed system could catch that, depending on how they did it. If those licenses were sent to an address other than one on file, for example - or all to a small number of addresses. And I suspect they were, or else the syndicate would have to carefully track the distribution in order to rob the mail.
