Evening and morning to all.
The story on the ONT about Rhode Island moving to limit the number of self-checkout stations in grocery stores: True, it's not the business of government to be limiting anything like that. But the bill has a provision to give customers a 10% discount if they have more than 10 items. That's been my objection to these things all along -- the store is getting my labor for free. Not to mention those nasty cameras with your image right in your own face. I don't want to see my mug and I doubt most people do either. Sure, they're photographing us everywhere, but I don't want the reminder shoved in my face. And at some Walmarts, the machines won't take cash. Fug 'em. Posted by: Biden's Dog sniffs a whole lotta malarkey, at February 27, 2023 *** Of course. But the stores should have been offering a discount or some kind of perk all along to customers who used the damned things. To me it's always slower to use the self-checkout -- I have to search for the bar code, scan it, and then fight with the plastic bags on the rack, which never open properly when you fool with them. I have no problem with the technology. It's the inconvenience, the fact they are stealing my labor, and the stupid in-my-face camera. And many wont take cash. The only perk for most people is that it's supposed to be faster. Ha. The lines to wait for the next machine are often longer than those at the few open manned checkouts. Whats this news about the Biden administration banning the sale of about 50 percent of gas stoves. Does the congress have a say in that, or is it just another Presidential edict. What stoves are they talking about.? I know some states want to ban the use of fossil fuels by 2035. California is banning the use of small gas engines sooner that that. No more snow blowers, string trimmers and lawnmowers and chain saws, etc.

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at February 27, 2023 04:26 AM (omVj0) - The problem is lack of competition. Here in Israel, I have stores with very easy to use fast self checkouts, while others have convoluted and annoying systems. I often intentionally avoid gracing the latter with my presence and wallet. This stuff is still in its childhood (just past infancy). The reason I hate where this is going is because of the loss of privacy in the personal data these systems are swallowing up. Privacy? I told this story before; I was searching for a phone number through a 1975 telephone directory from the Philadelphia area at the Library of Congress. Say the number was 867-5309. So I entered that number, only that. It 'found' my grandfathers name and phone number which also coincidentally ended with 5309. How the hell did it know who was looking? There was no login process at the site. My son, a software engineer, was working on an authentication algorithm about five years ago. Log in once, and your ID would follow you from site to site. He works for a quasi government entity. One of those 'partnerships' that we don't have to worry about. Yeah, right. Posted by: Divide by Zero at February 27, 2023 05:08 AM (enJYY) 31

RNC's biggest concern is that if DeSantis wins the primary that all others take a loyalty oath and pledge to support him. They say the same goes for PDT if he wins. I don't believe them and once again the RNC has their head up their ass.

Mark Wahlberg is a devout RC. He is even involved with a phone ap called "Halo" which deals with fasting for the Lenten season, so criticisms about his behavior when he was 16 probably don't faze him all that much. Of course in the mind of the religion of wokeness your sins can never be forgiven unless you join the cult too.

Posted by: lowandslow at February 27, 2023 07:04 AM (76Foq) This was my argument for why we should blow up the party and start over. It is all the unelected asshats who are the problem. It is like a party made up entirely of HR people. Better to start over than just think that because the voters want MAGA/Trump that the party will have to follow. This is a bureaucracy, and people do not understand how horrible, vicious and destructive they are.
