The Weaponization Of The Law By The Left
It used to be called "free speech." Now it is political crime. Protesting outside of an abortion abattoir seems to be the epitome of free expression...possibly saving the unborn from Abortion Inc.'s clutches is a political and social position that is easily defensible on moral, religious, ethical and legal grounds.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is reaching back almost three years to charge eight pro-life activists who, by sitting and praying, blocked the door of an abortion facility in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Calvin Zastrow, Chester Gallagher, Heather Idoni, Caroline Davis, Joel Curry, Justin Phillips, Eva Edl, and Eva Zastrow each face up to 11 years in federal prison, if convicted. Many have already been charged for similar incidents.Peaceful protest. Passive resistance. These are accepted methods of expressing political disagreement, and they have a hallowed place in American politics and culture. Prohibition (as misguided as it was), Women's Suffrage, Full Civil Rights for blacks, all were pressed forward with non-violent resistance to the status quo. But the Left's sacrament of baby-murder must be defended at all costs, even if that cost is the continued destruction of the rule of law and our founding documents. One of those arrested is Eva Edl, an 87-year old woman who has experienced first-hand the brutality of the left, first under the Nazis and then the Soviets. She is a ferocious defender of life, and obviously must be silenced! A cursory reading of our history will reveal far more intrusive protests that were seen as acceptable. In fact, violent protest in America has become the first play in the left's playbook, with no legal consequences in the vast majority of cases. Yet a peaceful protest three years ago has attracted the attention of the Department of Justice and its political commissars, headed by Merrick Garland...the worst Attorney General in our history. This is classic fascism...Nazi Germany used the law to further their genocidal aims, and the Soviet Union honed it to high (or low) art. The infamous "Article 58" of the Soviet penal code was a catch-all to be used against anyone who challenged the authority of the state. Well...we have the same thing! U.S. Code 241: "Conspiracy Against Rights," and U.S. Code 248(a)(1),2 "Clinic Access Obstruction." These are catch-all laws designed to chill the expression of ideas that are antithetical to progressive goals and in opposition to the power of the state. That they are used most aggressively to defend the murder of the unborn is repulsive. In a country ruled fairly by the law, "Conspiracy Against Rights" would be used to prevent the destruction of heterodox thought in our nation's public universities, and in fact against the deplatforming of those to the right of the progressive power base in all organizations that accept federal or state funds. And "Clinic Access Obstruction" wouldn't exist. But we don't live in that country.

If abortion didn't legally exist, many young women who become pregnant would opt to carry the baby to full term. In doing so, they wouldn't be able to launch their "careers", thus those jobs would go to someone else, perhaps a MALE, who would then be able to make a living a raise a family.
It' a vicious cycle. Women with high paying jobs, men scraping by. The end result s less babies and less nuclear families.
Win-Win for the progs.
But abortion allows this.

While I think Trump did a lot right, especially when it came to foreign policy and making sure he put America first, but against the left here he was a little sheepish and went back to the old GOP playbook of going by the rules while the left just does whatever they want, and punishes whoever they want. Trump also spent so much time fighting the left, or worrying about how much his policy would anger ther left, he had to hold back on actually getting stuff done.
I think Ron, as shown by what he's done in FL, will play the left's game and just do what we know needs to be done, and then just tell the left to go F themselves. He'll also surround himself with people who will do the same.
We need someone who won't just talk like he's the top dog in the country, but someone who will wield power like he is, which is one thing the left always does

Back when the left was defending the USSR they generally argued the Soviet invasions of Finland and Poland were "defensive responses to Hitler" and that there was no mass killing under Stalin.
It is interesting to see how not only have they flipped on that, but that literal neo-NAZIs in Ukraine are now the good guys...

I didn't follow it, but Insty had a link the other day to a study that purported to show that more single women are in relationships than single men. Again, I didn't read the details, but that would seem to follow along with your thinking.
Historically far fewer men reproduced then women as formal or information polygamy were common. Monogamy changed that of course.
But as we've abandoned monogamy it looks like we are returning to that norm, and amusingly it is being mostly driven by women.

you are in error to say it was "just a peace treaty" - no. It provided for the partition of Eastern Europe between Stalin and Hitler, most specifically Poland. This gave Hitler the security he needed to launch his invasion of Poland, which is what kicked off the shooting war with England and France.
Yes, Stalin was just as complicit in starting WW2 as Hitler was. FDR and our government whitewashed this part later because they wanted him as an ally.

And if you look back to 2021, it was in the weeks and months after Trump's insurrection that Putin began building up his forces along Ukraine’s border. It's because of Trump's cheerleading that Putin thought he could get away with his illegal war.

A 3 hour disturbance at the Capitol is a factor - not centuries of history, three decades of specific issues prominently on the bilateral diplomatic burner, and 8 years of actual conflict and associated western bad faith/incompetence.

At the risk of "Book Thread" cross-fertilization, I'm almost finished reading "In the Lion's Den" by Graham Spanier, the former President of Penn State who was swept up and into the Paterno madness.
If you have a need or interest in reading 400+ pages of what can happen to your life and reputation when such is your fate, this is a book for you.
The author is a prominent man of great accomplishment and myriad connections but such was no protection as hysteria abounded. Thankfully he marketh the falls of many sparrows while keeping his progressive troth plightings to a minimum. He mentions former President Trump a couple of times but was unable to see or mention the multitude of parallels between their situations.
