Top Story

If you're looking for a workstation that you can pick up and take with you AMD's new "Dragon Range" 7945HX could be the CPU for you. (Tom's Hardware)

On single-threaded tasks it's 25% faster than last year's 6900HX, but on multi-threaded workloads it's twice as fast. Which it should be, because the 6900HX has eight cores and the 7945HX has sixteen.

Which is a lot for a laptop. Intel's 13980HX has 24 cores, but 16 of those are half-speed Efficiency cores, so the two CPUs offer roughly the same performance.

These should be roughly the speed of the 12 core desktop Ryzen 7900, and at least on the AMD side use a similar amount of power - the 7900 is the low-power version of the 7900X. The Intel laptop chip has a peak power consumption of 157W compared to 89W for the desktop 7900.

G.Skill has announced a range of DDR5 registered ECC RAM for servers and more significantly workstations like Intel's new W-2400 and W-3400 range. (WCCFTech)

Good, because I literally couldn't find anything suitable at any of the usual places - not Amazon, not Newegg, not Micro Center.
How are Intel's Arc graphics cards holding up after a few months of driver updates? (Tom's Hardware)

Pretty good. Performance on current games is down slightly, but older games that still use DirectX 9 run an average of 77% faster.

Also they've cut the price on the A750, making it a reasonably attractive option.

I think of my working days when I had to be at the airport at 4:30 am for a flight to God knows where, and I had to drag myself out of bed early. Rain, snow, didn't matter, you were off to see a customer who probably hated you until you got them up and running again. (usually) I sure don't miss those days!

Today I'll hopefully finishing grouting my new ceramic tile floor in the guest bathroom. Then reset the toilet, install new supply line, and reinstall the floor trim.

Then off to the powder room to pull that toilet and lay tile.

At least with ceramic tile I won't need to do it again for another 20 years or so. No white grout this time, or every again on a floor. Getting too old to scrub grout with a toothbrush every year.

FenSpouse is having gout and instead of being one of those people who takes a pill everyday to ward it off he only takes something when he is in pain and after a few days of feeling better he's in pain again and on his last pill. I just told him I would ask people to pray for his foot, and his response was "Please ask them to pray for the rest of me too."

A sweating toilet was/is the issue. I'm on a well and when 50 degree water fills a toilet in a 75 degree room in the summer it's gonna sweat. I may end up swapping the hot and cold and filling it with hot water. The grout was initially sealed ages ago.

Sometimes I drive past the local maryjane dispensary on 113. The employees all park off to the side, away from the front entrance. I counted at least six vehicles there recently on a mid-week day. I installed a mixing valve on the toilet water feed line. I allows you to introduce some hot water with the cold water feeding the toilet tank. We have well water here too.

We might have something like that here in PA. I heard a Lowe's clerk ask a customer recently if he was a veteran. So there might be a discount involved.

I don't think my 4-H card would do me much good.

4-H for 'Holding' category, pending lottery. It was against the law to not carry the card with me at all times until told otherwise. They never told me otherwise so I still carry it with me. Tattered and torn with Nixon's signature still slightly visible.
