Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Beat the Iron Flower Cafe![]() They look like the tech guys running The Carousel in Logan's Run, but they're actually "beating the iron flower." Explained later -- beneath the fold! -- to add some drama and suspense to tonight's Cafe. Dressing up your dog? Gay. Unless it's for stealth purposes, as part of the ancient art of ninjitsu. Obviously. Rabbit eating lettuce. GAYYY!!! LOL is this pigeon gay or what? Riding double with a dude is, how you say?, gayballs. This rabbit decided today was a good day to eat raspberries and come out to its dad. You're not in the water, and this is gay. This dog really "likes music." One of that kind, if you know what I mean. Don't be hornswoggled by the beard in the bikini. This guy is as gay as the day is long. Do I even have to say it? *cough* GAY DUCK *cough* As a general matter, birds are pretty gay. This "art" is pretty "artistic" if you know what I mean. And I mean: Gay. Undersea volcano erupting. Not gonna lie, it's pretty gay. It's gonna be an influencer with its own makeup line in a month, mark my words. Okay enough of that. It's gotten silly. This took me a second to get: ![]() he ancient art of Datiehua, or "Beat the iron flowers," is traditionally performed to celebrate the Spring Festival.I usually beat the iron flower before I go to bed. Such performances reached their peak in popularity during the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties as a way for local blacksmiths to show off the strength of their iron works.Samesies! That's why I do it, too. Traditionally, the performances are held to usher in blessings for everything from good harvests to thriving business. The latter association comes from the Chinese word for flower, hua, which rhymes with fa, or "fortune."All I know is that when I beat the iron flower, I fall asleep like a baby. More video of men beating their iron flowers here. Not to ask the obvious question, but: These yellow-hot bits of molten iron don't burn the spectators' faces off their faces? Do they cool that rapidly? If so, why are the guys batting the molten metal around wearing protective hoods and gloves? I feel as though if I were watching as many Jackie Chan movies as I know I should, I would already know all about this. At least six Jackie Chan movies must have had climaxes where the big fight happened at an iron flower fireworks show. So gay:

Oh shit - I go away to get some work done and I get quoted in the sidebar. And refuted.
I agree about Lindell - He is a true believer, but his compass spins out of control sometimes. I think he is desperate to defend Trump, and outdoes PDT's lunacy at times. I am not defending Lindell. I also agree about Tucker, but with a caveat - Tucker is an election fraud denier. I don't trust Tucker on this issue. He seems to be keeping someone happy; maybe a Fox dictate or maybe something else. I actually addressed this in a comment I started typing but deleted. I have seen a lot of "Something has to be done about Fox" posts on the left side of the internet, and whenever I have seen that in the past it was usually followed by Fox shifting left on a key issue. I believe they succumb to pressure. I wonder if this is a way to quash the j9 stuff for good and all. (continued...) I think TPTB are (or should be) worried about the Right's ability to crowdsource. I have not looked deep, but they seem to have done an amazing job of IDing people from the J6 tapes submitted by participants. They gave each person a label based on clothing and tracked them throughout the riot. Many are unknowns. Things I firmly believe - Pelosi wanted this and facilitated it - Leftist groups participated by breaking windows, cutting tarps, etc. - FBI/CIA was involved. I won't say how deep since I don't know. Releasing the tapes will make a lot of problems for a lot of people. Releasing to Tucker will either - get over the hump and give the Left another "Oh, that was debunked" talking point. - whitewash the involvement of the above as "no evidence found." - be "balanced" and show a lot of "riot" and not a lot of identifiable provocateurs. I am suspicious. All I need to do is remember on November 5th Tucker looking into the camera and saying "I guess I underestimated how much the voters wanted things to get back to normal." Nothing he says about Ashli Babbit or Ray Epps will erase that. Posted by: Gentlemen, this is junta manifest at February 24, 2023 08:03 PM (V8Z0w) 73

Gentlemen, I don't really trust Fox but he's implying that Tucker is part of the cover-up mechanism. And I don't think Tucker is an "election fraud denier," really. I think some people assert a kind of election fraud that cannot be proven, and want other people to assert that as well. Well, it's hard to assert that which cannot be proven. It a demerit for those who work in ideas. Also, yeah, Fox is getting sued about it, right? So there is the pressure to only state what can be proven.
Even Mollie Hemingway does not assert strong-form election fraud. And she's no c*ck. But she can't go past what she can actually prove. A lot of people just want other people to declare what they believe is true, but cannot prove. But people can't keep their credibility if they do that. Mollie Hemingway, btw, does argue that the election was rigged through various means -- Zuckerbucks turning out the vote in blue districks only, ballot curing in blue districts only, universal mail-in voting without any security measures at all, imposed by executive fiat, etc., all of which sure look an awful lot like "stealing the election," but which is stuff she can prove definitely did happen.

I have gotten better at identifying astroturf on the Lefty sites I browse. For example, the latest massive push has been the "Biden is such a hero for going to Ukraine" bullshit. They really want that to stick and have inundated a lot of sites with that nonsense. But a few weeks ago it was "Fox is destroying our democracy." stuff. Mostly about the usual stuff you all know. No one ever says that a failure to audit and lack of transparency is destroying our democracy. DC does not want this looked into. I flatter myself that it is because we value Truth. However, we also know that statements will be gone over with a fine tooth comb. The left does not do this. They come out strong and hyperbolic. They know they have cover so they can go as strong as they want. Strong is persuasive. Emotion governs. We are still debating as if this is the days of Stevenson vs Ike. It's not. This is not a comity and compromise operation any more. They are playing to win. ace, about the Dominion stuff. Proving a negative (something didn't happen) paradox aside, how about Antrim County MI? Unless I missed something, clear example of results being changed (materially, changing outcome). In a local contest. Court case on it was dismissed, but explicitly *not* on the merits, but according to the judge on applicability of existing state law.
And perhaps a slightly different thing, but Coffee County GA. And the hilariously, obviously fraudulent "xeroxed" ballots in GA (forget which county), 103 or something ballots obviously the same one, but entered separately and given different serial numbers (whatever the term is), so, all counted. The already-poor integrity of the process in several key states (every element: registry, voting, tabulation) was ramped up to farcical levels. And the margins of "victory" were tiny in a few cases. Of the many many elections, federal and state/local, that have been overturned in our history, few if any involved "proving" the result was incorrect. Which is why the remedy has been to .... re-run them. Point is, actual outcome cannot be confidently determined from original, flawed election process. Fraud is one but not the only factor that can lead to this.
Of course you can't "re-run" presidentials. Which is why, fortuitously (because I think other reasons explain the original design), the constitution provides mechanisms for dealing with suspect results. Electoral college (state power), and congressional certification. Both long since pro forma, rubber stamp affairs. But both, actually, the failsafe mechanism built into the system. I am frustrated because the most important issue facing us is the status of our elections.
Trump understood this (for obvious reason) and I don't trust anyone who has a platform like Tucker and who does not drive this home. Even if you think the election was legit, the fact that it could not be audited, that so many people did not trust it, and that it relied on bullshit court decisions means it just blew up "our democracy." Even if you think the election was legit, the fact that it could not be audited, that so many people did not trust it, and that it relied on bullshit court decisions means it just blew up "our democracy."
--- Posted by: Gentlemen, this is junta manifest Almost very aspect of election integrity was missing in 2020. It was not like one precinct here or there was suspect. -- I used to do that a lot. Hunted with primitive weapons for a while. Used an atlatl but never took a deer with it. You can practice making projectile points with glass bottles. Lots of fun to make different ones while sitting around a campfire or catfishing. Covid was at the heart. J6 was cleanup.
Posted by: Aetius451AD I meant the heart of addressing the problem. First admit that J6 was justified. Good and proper. Necessary. Then people like Tucker need to rant about election security problems - no ID - unverifiable Mail ins - absentee bullshit - same day registration/ no checks against other states/ citizenship - auditability. Everything can be audited except this. ... These are all provable problems. Posted by: Gentlemen, this is junta manifest at February 24, 2023 08:54 PM (V8Z0w) 274

Posted by: Chatterbox Mouse at February 24, 2023 09:17 PM (TXFi7) His skin is Michelango's self portrait in The Last Judgement. In Iconography he is shown usually with a flensing knife or something similar. In Last Judgement, he is holding his own skin. Michelangelo went hard as he got older. Regarding the iron flower thing, I worked in a steel foundry and was around a lot of flying blobs of metal and slag. Metal will cool very rapidly, especially if blasted into teensy little balls flying thru the air. The guys up close wear nomex and aluminized gloves etc as they are very close to the metal. What if the guy spooning the metal up out of the furnace goofs and splashes his buddy? When I started working at the foundry the melters working the furnace wore simple cotton T shirts. If you were hit by a flying spark of metal it would go thru the shirt and hit your skin. Because the metal transfers heat so rapidly it would instantly boil the water in your skin and pop right off. Little burns, not deep at all. Slag, the impurities floating on top of the molten metal, is far more dangerous. It is a great insulator, transfers heat very slowly, so if it hits your skin it sticks and a lot more heat penetrates. The nomex does cut down on the number of burns you get, but increases the severity of them. If metal gets into a chink of your clothing the nomex, unlike a cotton T shirt, holds the metal next to you.

Something I was struck by when listening to a podcast this morning. He was talking about the population of Sirmium around 500AD as only being about 15k people. Then he mentioned that the population of Alexandria (Egypt) at the time was only around 500k- and it was one of the largest cities in Byzantium (Eastern Roman Empire.) Hell, Constantinople, I think he said only had maybe 600k people. (Rome, by contrast, at it's height was well over a million.)
One thing we do not think about was how EMPTY the world was. 15k would be a fairly small town now. Posted by: Aetius451AD Work Laptop at February 24, 2023 09:46 PM (zZu0s) 460

Yeah kissing was considered very intimate in high society England, maybe carried over from the puritans. People really bash the puritans largely out of ignorance and really mean spirited people spreading nonsense, but you had to understand the culture they were in.
Things were really, really corrupt and debauched and the church its self in England was some of the worst offenders. Puritans overreacted in a lot of ways, but they were trying to stop the kind of disgustingly nasty stuff we're seeing today. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at February 24, 2023 10:05 PM (0hOvj) 514

It's not about owing anything to the people who spent the last 5 years turning Star Trek into woke garbage. It's about applying positive reinforcement when they step away from woke garbage. You can't say "Get Woke, Go Broke" and then ignore the reverse corollary of that statement. If you want more entertainment that isn't woke garbage, you have to show them that abandoning woke characters and storylines will be rewarded. Otherwise, what incentive do they have to change? If there's no demand for non-woke Star Trek, then there won't be any supply. Posted by: Caiwyn at February 25, 2023 03:59 AM (Bmy9A) 543
