Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Andrea Mitchell Lies, Claiming Ron DeSantis Demands That "Slavery and the Aftermath of Slavery Should Not Be Taught to Florida Schoolchildren"This is the standard leftwing way of describing opposition to CRT -- they claim you "don't want to mention slavery." They also claim that opposition to gender ideology and transitioning children without informing parents is just "don't say gay." Andrea Mitchell continued MSNBC's attacks on Ron DeSantis -- they're attacking him as much or more than Trump, now -- by asking Kamala Harris the very difficult question, why does Ron DeSantis oppose teaching kids about slavery? Do you think it's racism? Mmm-kay, racism, maybe? Do you think Ron DeSantis is racist? Mmm-kay, you agree, don't you?"Let me ask you, what does Governor Ron DeSantis not know about Black history and the Black experience when he says that slavery and the aftermath of slavery should not be taught to Florida schoolchildren?" Mitchell asked Harris.Wow, what a truly difficult question to pitch to Kamala Harris, who has shown that she falls apart when asked difficult questions. It's almost as if Andrea Mitchell is a co-conspirator in the Kamala Harris Reputation Rehabilitation Tour. DeSantis has been under fire from critics for actively working to keep Critical Race Theory and content deemed explicit out of schools. Critics of the governor, particularly in the media, claim that he is effectively banning education on LGBTQ topics and Black history in total -- a criticism also previously tied to what Democrats and the press erroneously referred to as the "Don't Say Gay" bill. In the MSNBC interview, Mitchell held out as fact that DeSantis flat-out said the teaching of slavery and its aftermath in schools should be forbidden.DeSantis' press secretary called foul:
Bryan GriffinHere's the Florida standards for social studies, specifically African American history. African American History The following is in the required instruction statute, s. 1003.42(2)(f), F.S. The history of the United States, including the period of discovery, early colonies, the War for Independence, the Civil War, the expansion of the United States to its present boundaries, the world wars, and the civil rights movement to the present. American history shall be viewed as factual, not as constructed, shall be viewed as knowable, teachable, and testable, and shall be defined as the creation of a new nation based largely on the universal principles stated in the Declaration of Independence. The following is in the required instruction statute, s. 1003.42(2)(h), F.S. The history of African Americans, including: the history of African peoples before the political conflicts that led to the development of slavery; the passage to America; the enslavement experience; abolition; and the history and contributions of Americans of the African diaspora to society. Students shall develop an understanding of the ramifications of prejudice, racism, and stereotyping on individual freedoms, and examine what it means to be a responsible and respectful person, for the purpose of encouraging tolerance of diversity in a pluralistic society and for nurturing and protecting democratic values and institutions. So slavery and its aftermath are taught. And discussion of the impact of slavery is encouraged. The only limitation? You're not permitted to "indoctrinate or persuade students to a particular point of view." But this is anathema to the left -- they want to indoctrinate students, especially minorities, who they Own, they believe, to a particular point of view, but can't just admit "we Own the Minorities and should get to indoctrinate them to Vote Blue No Matter What You Do," so they always claim Republicans "just don't want to teach slavery." DeSantis' press secretary says that DeSantis will not speak to NBC/MSNBC until Andrea Mitchell confesses error: "In my interview last Friday with Vice President Harris, I was imprecise in summarizing Governor DeSantis' position about teaching slavery in schools. Governor DeSantis is not opposed to teaching the fact of slavery in schools, but he has opposed the teaching of an African American studies curriculum as well as the use of some authors and source materials that historians and teachers say makes it all but impossible for students to understand the broader historic and political context behind slavery and its aftermath in the years since."DeSantis' standards say that slavery is to be taught as well as the residual effects of slavery, so what are you talking about? What you're talking about is CRT, of course, although you can't say so, because you all maintain it isn't being taught in schools. You want white kids taught that they are wearing an "invisible knapsack of privilege" and that they must acknowledge and denounce their privilege, and that all "marginalized groups" must be given special boosts up to make up for the "invisible privileges" that the White Devil Children have. That's what you mean. DeSantis says you can't do that, and you don't want to admit what you're pleading for, so you say "he doesn't want to mention slavery" and also he signed a law that says "don't say gay." This is a critical issue. Not just CRT and education, but this asymmetrical warfare by the "elite" institutions against us. They say we're illegitimate. That we are disreputable, dirty, low, beneath contempt, ignorant, unworthy of respect, unworthy of mere tolerance, and, what's the word?, deplorable. And then we turn around and treat them as if they are worthy of respect and admiration. This. Cannot. Stand. We can no longer treat them respectfully. We can no longer treat them with dignity. We can no longer treat them with tolerance. Tolerance and respect are a two-way street -- and when one side refuses to grant it, the other side must refuse to grant it back. Otherwise, that side is agreeing that they are unworthy of respect, tolerance, or even basic human decency. They are implicitly -- near explicitly -- accepting their status as inferiors. For too long we have accepted this asymmetrical warfare because far too many "conservative" leaders urged it on us. And they urged it on us because they agree with the left -- they agree that we actual conservatives are beneath common dignity. Enough. Enough. Fuck these people and frankly disrespect and discourtesy is a starting point for leveling the playing field. Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

++++ This is consistent with how the ideological hard-left operates, and it is actually true according to their twisted interpretation of the world. The academic study of race - at all levels, from postdocs in the social sciences to the way that race is addressed in elementary education - *is* Critical Race Theory. There is no distinction. They are one and the same. If you are not using CRT as a teaching framework, you are not teaching about race. Period. It is impossible to have race as a part of the curriculum without CRT. In a real way, these attacks on DeathSantis for not wanting kids “to hear about slavery” are correct. He does not want kids to hear about slavery — the “slavery” the way the left wants to talk about it. To the left, slavery is nothing more than White Man Bad, without any nuance or context. HISTORY OF SLAVERY
6800 B.C. The world’s first city-state emerges in Mesopotamia. Land ownership and early stages of technology bring war, in which enemies are captured and forced to work: slavery. 2575 B.C. Temple art celebrates the capture of slaves in battle. Egyptians capture slaves by sending special expeditions up the Nile River. 550 B.C. The city-state of Athens uses as many as 30,000 slaves in its silver mines. 120 A.D. Roman military campaigns capture slaves by the thousands. Some estimate the population of Rome is more than half slave. 500 A.D. Anglo-Saxons enslave the native Britons after invading England. 1000 A.D. Slavery is a normal practice in England’s rural, agricultural economy, as destitute workers place themselves and their families in a form of debt bondage to landowners. 1380 In the aftermath of the Black Plague, Europe’s slave trade thrives in response to a labor shortage. Slaves pour in from all over the continent, the Middle East, and North Africa. 1444 Portuguese traders bring the first large cargo of slaves from West Africa to Europe by sea - establishing the Atlantic slave trade. The left has cancelled Jefferson, but he DID try to end slavery in his state once it was a state. He helped draft bills for the Virginia state senate to make any black child born on American soil free at birth. That would have gently ended the slave trade within a generation or two, no need for a civil war over slaves in the 1860s. State senate rejected them, but he tried.
But we aren't allowed nuance in history anymore, so let's cancel his butt and topple his statues! Sigh. -- And IIRC he wrote a letter regarding the indians saying that they were the equal to white men but it would be their choice to climb the ladder of western civilization or to be driven west like beasts. It's interesting that they're still languishing in alcohol, violence, and ignorance to this day. Slavery is one of the oldest — if not THE oldest — of all human behavior. It goes back to caveman times. As early as there was battle and conquest, there were slaves. If nothing else, women in those times were little more than slaves.
Posted by: Elric Blade at February 22, 2023 05:18 PM (AT4ao) i wouldn't go THAT far. Slavery needs social systems complex enough to enforce keeping the slaves in line even when far outnumbering the masters. Amerindians in the US area only rarely had that if at all. Thus their response to capturing an enemy tribe was to kill most, torture to death others for entertainment, and only those young enough to be assimilated would be adopted in as full members of the tribe. Note the fact that the alternative to slavery in primitive times wasn't 'freedom' but genocide and torture. Posted by: Oldcat at February 22, 2023 05:24 PM (eoQWY) 320
hat's a solid enough approach. But, if he runs for national office supported by the national GOP, he'll almost certainly draw his staff from their stable. It's all that's really left of our spoils system. His appointees won't have to undermine him, because they'll own him walking in.
Why on earth would he do that? It's a well-established precedent that you staff your admin with the people who were with you from the start and who you know can be trusted. == For one, there's way more people involved in the executive branch of the US than there is in florida. OT! I was just digging around on the fed agent / dog shooting thing b/c the stuff I saw that night online doesn't at all jibe with what the Inky had
so! in an Emily Litella moment here - I think I'm wrong, I think the (much smaller!) pit bull is the one that attacked not the larger normal mutt-type dog on Maria's insta! so dumb - I needed to look at the video closer. you can see Maria crying and a dog clearly not dead - that's NOT the dog that attacked, she was walking TWO dogs. the pit was smaller and at that point you can't see her (she's not dead yet but on the ground). also it sounds like Maria - who was walking both dogs on short leashes - loved Mia (the pittie) very much but had no experience with Mia attacking like this. I do think the agent should have just bonked her with the butt of the gun, she probably didn't intend so much to kill her with the shot but to not hit anyone/anything else with her shot inadvertently. so - sorry! I take it back! I still think the agent is weird and didn't HAVE to shoot. I've been in that situation in the city myself and had no gun and had to protect my dogs. it sucks. Andrea Mitchell is a mediocre talent at best and now she is nowhere near her best. I recall back in the Persian Gulf War when she asked, " Is it true that the reason we are not using the B1 and instead the B-52 to bomb Iraq, is because the B-1 can't get off of the ground?" To which the officer conducting the briefing told her that the B-52 is being used because it has the payload to carry conventional weapons and we do not intend to nuke Iraq with the B-1.
