Supposedly this video shows an experiment in which a guy is conditioned to "feel" with a fake hand what he's feeling with his real hand, so that eventually, the experimenter can apply stimulus to the completely-fake hand and yet his brain "feels" it, because it expects to feel it.

at altitude, boiling is at a lower temperature, so instead of cooking at 212 degrees F it is actually at 180 or something

Maybe try using a pressure cooker for it?

My manager, who hasn't been there long since the fired the other guy around Christmas, actually asked me if I would consider relocating back to the area. Hourly pay to relocate to an area with a higher cost of living and no guarantee of how long they would keep me on? No f'ing way. My co-worker in TX got the same email. I think we may be kept on through March.

135 The guy that just went back to work (was out for a couple of months with a kid in the hospital) lives in the town I used to live in. Which means an hour and a half commute each way. It's all freeway and I did it for awhile. Gas is over a buck a gallon more there and he's in an hourly position. Don't know what he will do. If I were younger, I would have been looking for a job a month ago. I think I may just retire and plant a garden.

Weirdly, I never really appreciated beer, despite 4+ years in Germany, in fact. Strong booze, no problem. I've made my own mead, apple jack, cherry cordial, etc...but I've always found beer just nasty.

For those that like it, though, it's usually a safe bet.

The starch grains need a minimum temperature to be reached in order to burst. Just like boiling potatoes - at the top of Everest a potato would never cook regardless how much boiling was done. I had to be 29 and retired and cooking before I figured out why some potatoes make good fries and some good baked types - different types of starch grains.

The train I took to school from Uganda to Nairobi, Kenya (approx 6000'), to-and-fro 6 times a year, had to climb to 9000' at Timboroa Station. The diesel-electrics couldn't make the climb so there was a special coal-fired choo-choo with a modified smokestack that did the job. The area around Timboroa is mainly bamboo so the sparks from the burning coal were not allowed to exit the smokestack. Notice the elevation on the sign here at the station.

On another note, I had a weird experience tonight and wonder if anyone has had something similar. I was lightheaded earlier in the day, but felt better and was trying yo do work emails.

Then all of a sudden the screen was blinding bright, I tried to type, then it took on a purplish tone. Very dizzy and I knew from one previous episode I couldn't walk.

This passed but was very wearing. Anyone had a similar experience? I want to attribute it to low blood pressure. Who knows?
