THE MORNING RANT – Monday 02/27/2023

My apologies, but today will be rant-less. I’ve been in Orlando since Thursday at the Heartland Institute’s climate conference, getting home late last night. I’ll likely be covering some of what was discussed there by fellow “climate deniers” in coming posts, but for now, today’s post is going to be just a few quick funnies to entertain you until Ace arrives.

Why do some people knock even though there’s a doorbell? In fact, I realize I do that sometimes, and I really don’t know why.

The fact that the Fire Department came out in support of the Gov, and saying that Disney was penny pinching on the Fire Department is really no surprise. Disney is penny pinching on maintenance in the Parks.

33 I got a glimpse of the clever leverage point of our downfall in one of JJ's links this morning. A long-time Reuter's editor was starting to wonder about Global Warming and noticing that both sides are no longer able to be presented, and this quote was in the article:

"The debate about climate change is far from over. I’m not a scientist so I don’t know enough to say it’s all man-made or not. "

That bolded part is key to everything. Up until the last twenty years or so people grew up, got an education, and had horse-sense enough to make judgment calls on things. And the vast majority of times those calls were correct because stuff is simple.

But that bolded part has been maybe the most brilliant angle of all of this. Credentialism has taken hold, and even people who know they're smart enough to start looking at things with skepticism refuse to do it and doubt their own smarts because they're not the Smart People.

Absolutely brilliant.

Dr. Bowden treated 5k covid 19 patients. (I recall a video where she stated she didn't have to send one to hospital, but that's when her caseload was still in the hundreds.)

I look at it like this, if the local weather dude or dudette cannot get today's hi temp right at 1300, then who exactly are they trying to convince of enough of a temperature spike to 'raise the ocean' as though ice has less density than the displaced water it's already made of.

WB is talking about making a movie or limited series based on it for HBO Max or theaters (the plans are apparently very preliminary).

It's the sort of thing I've imagined studios doing with their major properties for a few years. Don't rely on the characters and actors. Rely on the worldbuilding. It could have worked with Fantastic Beasts but JK Rowling ended up revealing herself to be something of an awful writer when left on her own devices on that scale.

California was ahead of the curve on that. I moved there in '89 from Nevada -- and they were charging $300 then to register out-of-state vehicles newly arrived.

I avoided it for about 5 years, re-registering my car in Nevada on trips back. So many people were avoiding it, that they started airing commercials offering bounties to turn in your neighbors who've been living locally with out-of-state plates.

I think there is a tipping point in relationships between races or cultures or religions though. If two diametrically opposed groups have to occupy the same space, war will eventually break out. If one side chooses to ignore the war they will lose.
