  • The Auspicious Machine is like a chunky Blackberry. (Liliputing)

It has a 640x480 LCD screen - rather low resolution in this day and age, a physical QWERTY keyboard, a D-pad for games, a tiny trackball, and no CPU, memory, or storage whatsoever (though there is a micro-SD slot).

That's because it's designed as a carrier for a Raspberry Pi Compute Module - specifically the CM4 - or anything with a compatible connector and form factor. The CM4 is just 40x55 mm - 1.6x2.2 inches - so it easily fits within a phone-sized device, and is available with up to 8GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.

Not a terrible idea, though the CM4 is much slower than current phone models, even budget ones.

  • The 7950X3D appears to be slower than the 7950X in Geekbench and Blender. (Tom's Hardware)

The 5800X3D was also slower than the regular 5800X in common benchmarks, while turning in amazing results in certain game titles. (TechSpot)

Nothing seems to have changed there, so if you mostly play Apex you can give this one a pass, but if you enjoy racing sim Assetto Corsa you could see a 40% increase in frame rates (if your graphics card can keep up).

  • Nvidia's RTX 40980 Ti and Titan RTX Ada: Everything we know. (Tom's Hardware)

Which is basically nothing. It's all speculation, though we do know that the 4090 only enables 8 out of 9 of the shader clusters on the AD102 chip, leaving room for a new card to be all of 12.5% faster.

Do you have one of those induction stove tops that are going to replace gas stoves. Government officials are saying you will get rid of that old gas stove and enjoy cooking on the new, wonderful appliance.

Sip - You should build your own outdoor greenhouse. Some lumber and some clear panels, etc. My Dad built one when I was young and he had the best time with it. I also think he kept a bottle or ten of Scotch whiskey in it.

I don't know who to cheer for at this point. It seems Carol didn't stick with the father of Rachel, (or Carol didn't take her husband's name), but one thing is clear: Carol doesn't want people to think that she sleeps around with Latinos, South Asians and Arabs.

Two words "Sharkbite fittings". I just installed three in-line water heaters with copper and those fittings and it was a piece of cake. Mark the copper at 15/16th of an inch (for 1/2") and slide that bad boy down to the mark. Done.

Less time then it takes to find my torch and gas canister. Yeah, they're kinda pricey, but so is a plumber who is probably using them himself.

The weather was gorgeous. A lot of guys didn't show up and lost out.

------------------------------

Back in the day when one needed a VCR to record a show for later watching, I had taped an episode of the X-Files. The recording also caught the first few minutes of the local news, which warned of a huge snowstorm coming our way (8-10 inches, as I recall). I was watching it the next morning, looked outside. It was clear and sunny, nary a flake in sight.

I use Sharkbites and they are great, but this plumbing will be between the first and second floor under the shower, so will be inaccessible in the future. It needs to be permanent and have no chance of leaking. I have seen Sharkbites drip a bit. Also, there is some drain work, no Sharkbites for that.
