Kangaroo Gun Show Cafe

elephantsofnamibia.jpg
Elephants of Namibia, by
Bernabe Photo

Old vid, but nice: Elephant thanks motorist for stopping while his herd crosses the road.

Cat gets the best seat in the house for the symphony.

Rescuing a dog.

The shoebill stork makes a machine-gun-like noise by rapidly clacking its beak shut.

A one armed clean and jerk. It doesn't seem possible.

Dude's getting some air.

Young dog jumps all over older dog, who just wants to sleep. While a little kid hums the "Ghana Funeral Dance" tune, signalling that the older dog's patience might be at its end.

High school in 1987, when almost everyone was physically and psychologically healthy.

Sick volleyball rally.

This guy is really "pleasing the pangolin," if you know what I'm sayin'.

Prayers because the nation, their unit, and the family's have to bear the loss of good troops.

Sorrow because the price is high, and some of us are forced to bear the cost too soon.

Joy that we are blessed to have such citizens amongst us, and that they are now with the ones who crossed before them.

I'm not a helicopter pilot, but I'm familiar with vortex ring state.

Because a straight ahead Angle of Attack stall on a Grumman Yankee works about the same way, and the steeper the angle, the more airspeed scrubs off, and there's not enough power in the system to pull the plane forward and out of the Coffin Corner. Whole lotta Yankees stalled and crashed over the runway threshold, way back when.

A1A Yankee would not be the Grumman I'd wanna fly. AA5 Cheetah & AA5A Tiger, problem solved.

Still. Prayers for that crew and their families. Sucks, but there really are more peacetime & training losses than in combat. We just don't hear about 'em as much.

The blade tips are flying and stalling in their own prop wash. Inner part of the rotor has lift, outer blades are losing lift, and the harmonics can go to hell ending either in shattered blades and/or a shattering impact from a vertical drop to the ground.

You've seen blade tip vortices from the films of an F4 Phantom flying through the test-tower smoke? How it curls up and over where the wing just was? With the helicopter, the rotor is trying to fly IN that rotating vortex, and getting nowhere.

They literally have no idea what they are doing, who they are doing it for, or the host population they are doing it with.

I have a hard time believing that account is real. I mean, I guess it must be, as it's got a .gov URL and everything; but seriously. Who says in a Tweet that Lincoln "did some stuff"? Did she think she was being funny, or is she just that stupid, or....

Wait a minute. Is this actually Kamala Harris?

274 I just saw the UH-60 crash video. I don't think that was Vortex Ring Stall. I've seen those in video, they tend to be much closer to the ground, in ground-effect hover.

Unless that crew was working a 2,000 agl hover, then I haven't a clue as to the cause. But that was an ugly, hopeless crash.

Prayers, Horde. Prayers.

BIL flew one for the Nightstalkers back in the day and retired after two crashes. Not really his fault - both airframes collected too much metal while flying that wasn't there when it left base.

Like every other federal (and state)agency, the leadership are political cronies with few, if any technical quals. Everyone under 35 have "technical" quals from what passes for education in our universities. The really smart ones come from overseas.

A medical issue could have made it a non-voluntary CFIT, God I hope it was not mechanical.

At any rate, prayers for their dependents and the family noble enough to give us their children to serve.

Accidents in training are the price we pay for readiness and their loss is noble and not needless.

294 I'll call it as a mechanical on the Blackhawk.

Both in front would've been qualified Pilots, and both wouldn't have had simultaneous medical emergencies.

The "off" rotor sound. Might've lost one rotor blade, and now the whole thing is an out of balance washer on the spin cycle, cubed?

I lost my interest in helos at that point.

Actually you can fly straight without a tailrotor, and even slide one on without a tailrotor. Now if you desire to hover, you better damn well have a tailrotor.
