Nikki Haley Announces Absurd Bid for President

Indian Tracy Flick says "Pick Flick."

Nikki Haley, the former governor of South Carolina and one-time U.N. ambassador, announced Tuesday that she will seek the 2024 Republican presidential nomination.

...

She... contrasted America's freedom with the despotic actions of authoritarian regimes across the world.

"I have seen evil; in China they commit genocide; in Iran, they murder their own people for challenging the government," she continued. "And when a woman tells you about watching soldiers throw her baby into a fire, it puts things into perspective. Even on our worst day, we are blessed to live in America."

Haley's take-no-prisoners attitude at the U.N. earned her praise among conservatives. She called anti-Semitic UNESCO a "cesspool" and "among the most corrupt and politically biased UN agencies." She fiercely defended the U.S. embargo on Cuba when the U.N. once again condemned the U.S., saying, "The United States will continue to stand with the Cuban people until their rights and their freedoms are restored. Period. We won't back down."

Time after time, she defended Israel against its detractors while harshly opposing the despotic Iranian regime.

In October 2019, speaking at the annual dinner of the American Enterprise Institute, Haley criticized colleagues of hers in the Trump administration "who believed that the best thing to do for America was to undermine and obstruct the president." asserting, "The president was the choice of the people, in accordance with our founding charter. No policy disagreement with him, no matter how heartfelt, justifies undermining the lawful authority that is vested in his office by the Constitution."

In the announcement video, Haley also vowed to take on the woke Left and defend American values.

As the screen showed President Biden, Vice-President Kamala Harris, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, she asserted, "Some people look at America and see vulnerability. The socialist Left sees an opportunity to rewrite history. China and Russia are on the march; they all think we can be bullied, kicked around. You should know this about me: I don't put up with bullies, and when you kick back, it hurts them more if you're wearing heels."

Ugh.

Why do they always have to do that? Women say they want to be judged on their qualifications -- that they want to be considered "candidates" not "female candidates" -- but then they themselves constantly underline the fact that they're women, as if (gonna have to be honest here) that's a plus.

Literally no one believes that women kick harder than men. The fact that you think that "wearing heels" makes your kicks harder tells me you don't know much about kicking at all.

Stop it. You sound like a frigging imbecile. Fire whoever wrote that line for you and then de-announce your bid for president because you're such a dolt that you thought it was clever.

17 I'm trying to formulate an policy around failed political candidates needing to donate an equal amount of what they raised into federal debt relief.

Something like 100% of what is spent must then be spent on debt relief...

Seems punitive with massive opportunity for problems.

But seriously, these vanity candidates are nakedly grifting. It's money laundering.

25 It is comical how idiotic most of the NeverTrumpers are. They are so utterly obsessed with defeating Trump, and confident that they themselves are THE answer, that they will actually do the precise thing that leads Trump to victory. Namely, a bevy of self-important clowns will enter the race, enabling Trump to win with 35% of the vote in a fractured slate. Are exactly like the Democrats in this...and I guess in just about everything else, as well.

This is why women have to point out that they're women. These idealized "strengths" you described are entirely male concepts, and typically white European male concepts. To equate those superficial and stereotypically white male ideals with "greatness" is to simultaneously disparage those who do not embody those ideals as non-great.

By this oppressive and discriminatory standard, only white men can be great and others need not apply because they are non-great. This is the problem with entrenched social conventions that are instilled by systems of oppression. This commenter probably doesn't even realize that the standard they used prohibits most of society from participating and perpetuates the oppressive conditions under which they live.

To get over this, we must deprogram the culture to no longer reflexively promote oppressive value systems. Until that can happen, women will, sadly, have to remind people that they are women.

159 What does a most extreme left organization think? Here's DU The Bulwark's take: Nikki Haley Is the Perfect Republican Presidential Candidate (for 2015)

Haley’s candidacy represents the best of the “meh” middle tier of 2024 candidates, which for now includes the notional campaigns of Mike Pence, Mike Pompeo, and Chris Christie...

...while many Republican voters may be moving off Trump the man, the forces that he unleashed within the party—economic populism, isolationist foreign policy, election denialism, and above all, an unapologetic and vulgar focus on fighting culture war issues—remain incredibly popular with GOP voters...

Haley isn’t like another potential fusion candidate, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, who has a strong record of conservative policies that better fit the current iteration of the Republican party while also breaking from Trump over his election fraud claims...And she certainly isn’t a Ron DeSantis-style, four-star general in the culture wars.

It resonated in the actual comics because the lesson being taught was there was a social duty to be a bully thumper.

The notion that adults would intervene directly was alien to that culture because kid business was kid business and adult business was adult business.

The current asshole crybullies are a result of the "curative" to bullying no longer being kids themselves forming alliances to thwart the worst actors among the bullies but running and playing crying game to the adults.

Two thoughts:

2. These are poor neighborhoods, theoretically where people go hungry and there are hundreds, if not thousands of tasty chickens running loose.

I think raising boys to know how to handle bullies, without running to authority figures, is the best way to handle the issue. But that requires fathers to be involved in their kid's life and to teach them.

Did you watch the Super Bowl last night, (gnat)?

You might have seen an ad from Intuit TurboTax, where a guy was dancing in front of a fountain without a care in the world, free to frolic because he was getting TurboTax to do his taxes for him.

Sounds happy and peaceful, right? But I was just about ready to throw my remote at the TV screen.

Why? Because tax prep giants - including TurboTax - have spent decades, and tens of millions of dollars, lobbying Washington to make tax filing as much of a hassle as possible. All so they can maximize profits by reeling in frustrated taxpayers, often with misleading marketing that steers people away from free options.

And after wringing profits out of working families at tax time, they can afford to shell out millions of dollars for fancy Super Bowl ads.

So the ad was basically like an arsonist bragging about charging money to put out the fire they started.

You see, every year, when your W2s and 1099s come in the mail, your employer has already sent a copy to the government. So it's no secret: The IRS already knows how much you make before you file your taxes.

So instead of all the scrambling, calculating, and late nights, you could simply get a pre-filled tax form based on information the IRS already has. You'd confirm the information, and send it back. A free filing system would take the head-ache - and the expense - out of doing your taxes.

I've spent years fighting for a free, simple federal tax filing system. And with the funding that Democrats passed through Congress last year, we're closer than ever to making it happen. I'm staying in the fight until we get this done.

If you do stock transactions this might require a correction, but other than that it probably won't. W2s, 1099s, etc. are usually sent to the IRS anyway. They don't do it because they don't want to, and it also makes it harder to catch errors so they can reject your return and hit you with fees.

He was the luckiest man in the history of GITMO then. He successfully crossed two minefields to get there. That rarely happens and I can't remember one instance of that happening during the three years we were stationed there. They usually wind up stepping on a mine and the Cubans will leave their bodies laying there as a reminder to anyone else trying to cross. We would constantly hear mines going off at night when we were on the bay fishing.

Fiercer. The boy bully is likely to insult you and maybe punch you in the face, and will be pushed back if you hit him back. The bully is the bully, but any given incident is largely just a transaction.

Girl bullies usually play a different game of manipulation of back-stabbing that can't be solved by punching her in the mouth. It's not a transaction, it's an entire operational framework.

Posted by: t-bird at February 14, 2023 12:35 PM

I was in college in Utah during the 1970's I seem to remember the State of Utah was going to restart executions. Back then their law hadn't changed and offered execution by firing squad. It also allowed that volunteers could be selected from the able-bodied male population of the state. If I remember correctly (1970's had lots of drugs), the state was overwhelmed with thousands of men volunteering to plug a criminal.

Good times.

Her husband, George Putnam, was a PR heavyweight and had puff pieces about Earhart shot out to newspapers and radio almost on a daily basis.

As an aside, I think I read somewhere that she didn't want to marry Putnam and that their marriage was basically a celibate one of convenience because his connections would allow her to fly bigger / faster planes.

Bingo. The big conflict between Trump and McConnell about the direction of the party is that Trump wanted to focus on winning over non-college educated workers and increasing turnout. McConnell, and the GOPe and consultant class, seemed more interested in winning over the middle class whites, especially women, who turn up regularly at the polls. Hence the GOPe tactic of waiting around for the Dems to overreach, combined with massive ad buys rather than a focus on get-out-the-vote. They wanted low-turnout elections where they would sway a few voters without having to commit to conservative policies.

396 Who exactly in America is hankering for more confrontation with China and Russia so much so that they'd go vote for Nikki Haley?

Certainly there's a sizable faction of the Republican party that supports military aid in theory, but those voters are already confronting fact that $100 billion and counting of our Strength is getting smuggled into the pockets of the global elite without vexing Russia in any way.

As for China, nobody believes that either side will do anything militarily because of the unacceptably small chance of success and regime-threatening humiliation that would result from failure.

There's certainly a case for bold economic confrontation with China, but Haley will be hard pressed to stay out of dead last place on that issue.

Women who support abortion almost never vote Republican. I am puzzled you have to have someone say that outright.

And saying "protecting helpless innocent babies is a high priority" is not the same as saying "this priority is the same for people who want to murder helpless innocent babies."

On one side you have people horrified by the evil, immorality, brutality, and cruelty of hacking babies apart, which is a huge priority.

On the other side you have people who convince themselves that this isn't really a human being and want convenience and consequence-free sex, for whom this is not as huge a priority.

If the two can't agree on a candidate who isn't Trump, Trump wins. So an alternate would have to appeal to both camps.

Nikki Haley is the first hard establishment R to jump in the race. She has no chance of appealing to actual conservatives more than Trump. Morally, we're on the same page, but sexually loose people want this escape option. And then there's just the reality than a single parent is basically a life sentence to poverty. It's just the culture we live in.

Even in the reddest of states, Kansas, an abortion ban went down HARD. It's just not a popular position anywhere, really. Most people are in the "immoral, but not completely illegal" position.

February 14, 1764 - According to most sources, 14-year-old Auguste Chouteau and 30 men under his direction arrived on the west bank of the Mississippi, a few miles below the confluence with the Missouri. His stepfather, Pierre Laclede, had chosen the site a year earlier for a trading post and settlement he said “might become hereafter one of the finest cities in America.” The next day, the workers began clearing the site that grew into the city of St. Louis. It was a French community, established without legal authority on Spanish soil, with the British Empire, enemies of the French, just across the river.

And the rest, as they say, is history.

Yep. The black and white abortion positions are about equally supported in the US. No abortion and zero restrictions are each around 20%. By far, the most popular position is strict restriction after the first trimester.

Pro life advocates see the public retracting in horror from the left's zero restrictions policy and mistakenly believe that means the public wants to ban abortion. That's not the case. They want more restrictions, but not a ban.
