Well... I mean...
Let's just say there are multiple factors. "Bugmen" is a nifty insult I heard from Ryan Long describing soy-based semi-men who cannot do anything remotely physical or mechanical. Like changing a fuse is a problem for the bugmen. (I'm a bit of a bugman myself, but unlike many bugmen, I'm not satisfied with my status as a Person of Bug.) David Strom at Hot Air:Everybody knows the military has been having trouble hitting its recruitment numbers, and Republicans have been banging the drums about COVID vaccine mandates and the sudden swing to woke in the military. Nope, says the AP and the current military brass. It's that there is a sudden outbreak of scaredy-cat 18-year-olds.No doubt the fact that 85% of Generation Z boys are transgender (that's my rough guess, based on the media never shutting up about the subject) is hurting recruitment. But there have always been pussies and cowards. But there have also been men who were willing or even eager to go on a very dangerous adventure for the sake of protecting the country -- and that pool of men was always a fraction of the total number of men. (Or, "those assigned male at birth.") And they have traditionally signed up for military service in such numbers that there has never been a serious fear that the US would have to resort to the involuntary draft, since the Reagan presidency restored confidence and prestige to the military, at least. But now that fraction of men traditionally willing to risk physical injury or death for the sake of service is also not signing up now. The AP says it's just because that group -- the group which has always been less afraid of death than the average men -- are suddenly just sniveling cowards.
While some Republicans blame the COVID-19 vaccine or "wokeness" for the Army's recruiting woes, the military service says the bigger hurdles are more traditional ones: Young people don't want to die or get injured, deal with the stress of Army life and put their lives on hold. They "just don't see the Army as something that's relevant," said Maj. Gen. Alex Fink, head of Army marketing. "They see us as revered, but not relevant, in their lives." Addressing those longtime issues has taken on greater urgency as the Army tries to recover from its worst recruiting year in decades, a situation aggravated by the tight jobs market. The Army is offering new programs, advertising and enticements in an effort to change perceptions and reverse the decline.Sounds to me like it's the military brass that is filled with sniveling cowards who are afraid to tell their Woke Bosses the truth about why military service is no longer seen as manly to actual men. Note that the media is now claiming, simultaneously, that we are experiencing levels of Toxic Masculinity like we've never seen before (or at least since Atilla led the Hun invasions), and that Generation Z are just too weak and effeminate for military service.

Chose the USMC, didn't make it through bootcamp.
I wanted to do the hardest training possible, and that at the time was the USMC. I was severely saddened that I failed, but it was a good lesson.
But on this, you have that POS Biden checking his watch, and all that he's done to arm enemies, and fuck around with Ukraine funneling money. It's just a bad look, fuck him and his shitstain family.

I'm not a particularly good mechanic. I'm stymied by a lot of stuff. But I once sliced off the tip of my left index finger, just behind the front knuckle, and reattached it myself. That worked great, except that I have no sense of touch in the fingertip, but that's a luxury anyway. The finger works perfectly aside from that.
I also set a compound fracture in the thumb on that hand, and it worked. Mostly. Sort of. Ok, not that great. But, somewhat. It does most things. For now.

Look at how the military has been used under Bush, Obama, and Biden (especially the Afghanistan fiasco). What about their military interventions have proven "worth it".
Marines died in the withdrawal - and it was brushed aside to prevent legitimate criticism of Biden. We didn't gain anything in Afghanistan - we didn't gain anything in Iraq. No one had a clue about what victory looks like - so the conflicts just dragged on. I know WWII ended 78 years ago and we are still in Germany. But Germany was a country that had to RETURN to civility after WWII. Iraq and Afghanistan had nothing to return to and don't respect the political enlightenment that founded our nation.
I truly respect everyone who serves, but how many, when they look back at the big picture, wonder what the heck they risked their neck for? Sure, plenty can tell the personal experiences of helping this person or that person or this town or that town. The big picture isn't nearly so clear.
The American soldier and sailor is treated as expendable. Maybe GenZ sees themselves as something more than that.

One of the major reasons Rome fell was because of the continual inflation with Rome diluting the metal content of the coinage. Even with reforms, changes, seizures of defeated countries and expropriations the need for money for the Legions and public works to buy votes and silence dissent was never matched by taxation. The central government was forced to adulterate the coinage causing inflation that they never understood and were unable to control.
Took them a good six centuries, though.

That was when the Army should have turned things over to the Dept of Occupation, who is charged with running the peacetime occupation properly. Rome used to be pretty good at managing this and nation-building, so a doctrine could in theory be worked out. But neither the Army nor State should be involved in this at all.

No idea, just that there has been a lot of polishing of Lee by Freeman in particular that is accepted as standard by CW history. Other Generals and good men made different decisions. Bushrod Johnson was from Ohio, married a southern lady. General Thomas chose the north, was from Virginia.
People were people then too, and made judgments on their own criteria and can't be clustered into simple clusters to suit ourselves.
