NPR Pushes The Idea That There Are "Some Places" -- Leftwing Enclaves Controlled by Hysterical Obese Karens -- Where We Must "Mask Forever"

There are still hundreds of thousands of COVID cases reported in the U.S. each week, along with a few thousand deaths related to COVID.
But with mask mandates a thing of the past and the national emergency health declaration that will expire in May, we are in a new phase of the pandemic.
Life looks a little more normal here in the U.S. than it did a few years ago, but decisions on how to deal with the virus aren't over yet.
China had a huge increase in cases last month after abandoning its zero COVID policy, and another variant prompted renewed recommendations in some airports. Researchers estimate that more than 65 million people are struggling with the effects of COVID -- a disease we still have to learn about.

Wondering if and when you should still be masking up? NPR asked some experts.

Some experts that NPR was pretty sure would agree with their Mask Forever Protocol.

Dr. William Schaffner, a professor of infectious diseases at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, says he and his wife are still playing it conservatively. He cautions people to stay "careful, not carefree."

He says that "older" people and the immunocompromised should still wear masks.

Nowhere in this article, by the way, is there any acknowledgement that masks have repeatedly found to be ineffective against "stopping the spread."

Dr. Bob Wachter, chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, plays it a little more by ear.
"I have come to calibrate my mask wearing based on my best educated guess as to the possibility that someone has COVID and also how important is it for me to do the thing without a mask," Wachter says.
While he's no longer concerned about dying or serious illness, the virus can still knock you out. Wachter watched firsthand as his wife recovered from a bout of long COVID-19. He evaluates it case by case. A small gathering where everyone is vaccinated and windows open may not require one. But sitting on an airplane or in a large, crowded theater might be a good idea to do one.
"Those places, I'm wearing a mask now, and I suspect I will wear a mask forever," Wachter said.

The third doctor they ask, Dr. Monica Gandhi, says we don't have to keep wearing masks, but only because, NPR claims, of the success of the vaccines that don't actually vaccinate nor stop the spread of the disease. She says the vaccines provide protection against "serious" covid illnesses.

At the height of it Russia made their own vax because it didn't look like anyone else would sell it to them. They fairly quickly relaxed lockdowns relative to Europe IIRC. They did sell vaxes to other nations, not sure if Ukraine got some.

There are allegations that one of the items being cooked up in the not-present biolabs in Ukraine was related to Covid Vax, and use of staff as test guinea pigs. Keeping this under wraps might or might not be a contributing factor, but the main issue seems to be the persecution of Russian language speakers and ties to the West.

Per the CDC's own data, it has an efficacy of less than 36pct for all populations, I doubt this figure.

Personally, I get a ILI about every 5-10 years, it's simply not worth getting a non-efficacious, potentially adverse event inducing "shot" to stave off something that usually resolves itself within a week to ten days.

The internet says Ukraine had 100K deaths from COVID. I can't figure out what jab they use, but their vaccination rate is way lower then the US.

Note that for both countries their reported death rate from COVID is way below the US rate...

As I recall this intense clinical study of the Russian Vax came about the time certain countries not in the favored line for Western Vaxes started to buy from Russia. How they got the materials and time for such a study when presumably they were busy with a pandemic remains a question. Lucky for them it wound up just at the time it discouraged many from getting it.

Same thing happened with Ivermectin. Some real studies showed it worked great, instant 'scientific' discouragement from the elites.

Now he has neuropathy, and also emphysema.

I honestly don't recall my grandparents, but I know my parents never seemed to have any fear over death. Risk and safety wasn't a big discussion. You did things. If something bad happened you dealt with it. It didn't stop you from doing something that needed doing, or that was entertaining. Although when they recalled the Jarts, my Mom did throw those away.

They put three (trivalent) or four (quadravalent) variants into the flu vaccine, based on some sampling of the early cases and an examination of the animal flu.

It's a crapshoot, and it is rarely better than 50%-60%. But since it is a well-understood technology with minimal side effects, I get one.

But I certainly wouldn't support mandates. I simply don't care very much what other people do.

My uncle and Dad are big into trains. I remember them discussing something at Christmas that the RRs were experimenting with all sorts of train lengths to try to cut down on costs. Evidently they tried something like a four mile long train (he said the previous rule was 2 miles long, max?) and every one of the towns involved in the test train length threw and absolute fit.

I know it wasn't much more than 100. Takes too long to clear a crossing for emergency services. Which was the whole reason to begin with. It's one thing to clip along at 55 mph, but when they slow down to 20 or less in town, it takes forever to clear a crossing.

Lessee, if you put a guy on first the chance of a run scoring that inning is about 50-50. And there's strategy involved in trying to get a DP/advance the runner. So the thumb is well on the scale to just score and go home.

The could have just allowed the team to carry some pitchers on staff that can only pitch in extra innings and left it as they had had it. Or reduced the absurd specialization of relief staffs and starters only going a few innings.

Steriods broke the MLB for me a long time ago. Not sure what cocktails they use that are semi-legal now but the game has lost its charm.

Last week saw an AHL game that went into over-time. Unfortunately (as far as I was concerned, and I heard others saying the same on the way out) the home team won with a goal within a minute, denying us all the 3-on-3 treat or a shoot-out.

Having spent far too much time in them in my live one result is everything is a lot more expensive there. When I finally got a car I used to drive out to the suburbs for a good restaurant and to buy groceries. Cut the cost by about 25-30 percent at least.

WASHINGTON – The $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill President Biden is slated to sign into law today (Monday, Nov. 15)
contains funding for a study of Class I railroads’ use of ever-longer trains and their impact on safety, grade crossings, freight and passenger service, and the environment.

The measure provides up to $2 million for the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to evaluate the operation of trains longer than 7,500 feet.

The study will examine several operational aspects of long trains, including derailment risks; communication issues between the head end,
distributed power units, and end-of-train devices; and train handling and braking. It also will look at whether engineers and conductors need additional training to safely operate long trains.
