Good morning kids. So, there was evidently some big game yesterday to which my give-a-shitometer registered somewhere between flatline and fuck-all. If it meant something to you, either congratulations or go overturn another car.

Back here on Planet Looney-Bin, also known as the former United States of America and the civilized world, yet more Red Chinese spy balloons are floating over our territory and being intercepted. Yet this musing from one of the Air Force's top brass is both laugh-out-loud funny and vomit-inducing:

When asked if the U.S. military had ruled out an extraterrestrial origin for the unidentified objects, [U.S. Air Force General Glen] VanHerck responded: “I’ll let the intel community and the counterintelligence community figure that out. I haven’t ruled out anything.”
“At this point we continue to assess every threat or potential threat, unknown, that approaches North America with an attempt to identify it,” VanHerck continued.

It's so outrageously dumb but the implication is clear: the Biden Junta's calculus is that there is a large enough percentage of the American people who are braindead enough to believe this. It's shrewd and evil, yet perfectly understandable given the fact that since these objects are indeed Chi-Com military balloons – the filthy Mongoloids are incensed that we had the gall to shoot them down despite floating across our territorial borders and even demanding we return the wreckage! – the prima facie evidence of rank incompetence (or worse) is hard to dismiss even for the lowest of LIVs.

It also helps to distract from Seymour Hersh's blockbuster allegations that Joe Biden, consciously or unconsciously, gave the order for the United States military to blow up the NordStream pipeline, a deliberate act of sabotage against the Russian Federation and in fact an act of war. Although, the media's complete ignoring of one of their icons' damning accusations against America speaks volumes. Yeah, they loved it when he attacked the American government. Except this time the government is anything but American.

In February 2022, just weeks before the Russian invasion of the Ukraine, Joe Biden told a journalist at the White House that if Russia were to invade, it would mean the “end” of the Nord Stream pipeline. When pressed on how he would accomplish this, Biden simply stated that he “promised” the pipeline would no longer be operable.

. . . The sheer hubris of the alleged assault boggles the mind. If, as seems clear, Joe Biden followed through on his word and had the Nord Stream pipelines disabled, it puts the lie to all the high-minded talk about defending “democracy” in the West. No American voted for conflict with a nuclear-armed Russia. Congress did not declare war, as the Constitution mandates. Nor did the United States make any bones of consulting with its ostensible European allies. . .
. . . There is a deeper truth at the bottom of the Batlic, amidst the Nord Stream wreckage. It isn’t just Germany that is no longer a sovereign power—in fact, the very concept of the nation-state has been destroyed. All of Europe is an American satrapy. France, England, Italy, Austria, Luxembourg—these petty powers have no real existence as independent entities. They are neither economically nor militarily self-reliant. They cannot even secure their needed energy requirements without outside intervention. . .
. . . The nation-state died in 1945. The mid-20th century Anglo-American-Soviet alliance made sure of it. American liberals and Soviet communists at Tehran, Yalta, and Potsdam marched in complete lockstep on the future of the world order. There were tensions, of course, but there was no doubt in the minds of either Franklin Roosevelt or Josef Stalin that the postwar order would be fundamentally leftist.
Both liberals and communists could agree that the highest human aim was the satisfaction of man’s material needs (filling his stomach) and the elevation of the oppressed. For the communists, such a world would come into being with the global revolution of the proletariat. Liberals, on the other hand, thought it could come into being by exporting McDonald’s, blue jeans, and rap music on a global scale.
In our own time, even this difference has disappeared. The American Left now openly encourages the “marginalized” and “oppressed” to fight back against “systemic racism” on a global scale. American embassies across the planet fly the pride flag and display Black Lives Matter signs. The economic proletariat under communism transformed into a racial proletariat under liberalism. . .
. . . Today, a transnational ruling “elite” centered in Washington, D.C. exerts quasi-planetary rule in the name of “human rights.” It is wrong to call this arrangement in any way American. Ordinary middle-class voters in the heartland have zero say in the methods and ends of this system. Americans, of course, are forced to pay, in blood and treasure, to keep this framework in place. . .
. . . The Nord Stream bombing displays enormous chutzpah from the American ruling elite. But it is also a clarion call for all those with eyes to see and ears to hear: A world dominated by D.C. is a world without freedom and real political life. Europe will never again be a heart of culture and civilization as long as it remains in the thrall of D.C.’s power. Until that yoke is thrown off, Europe will remain a medieval history theme park, its churches empty, its militaries laughable, and its people morally and spiritually degraded. Americans outside the hallowed halls of financial and political power in New York, D.C., and Silicon Valley are little better off.

Despite the fact that a D.C. dominated world would in fact be a Beijing/Davos/Brussels dominated world with D.C. as a satellite branch perhaps, read the whole thing. It crystallizes a lot of things that I have been talking about for quite a while now; in essence the illusion and myth of both the American two-party system, the supposed independent nature and morality of those in the intel and law enforcement communities and now, at least in part, the need to take a second more serious look at the attitudes of people like Sy Hersh and others on the left. At least to the extent of recognizing and taking serious the ones who railed specifically against the depredations and hypocrisy of our vaunted institutions and not of the founding itself. I am of the belief that there is a radical (pun intended) difference between people like Hersh and Glenn Greenwald and say Ibram X. "Krement" Kendi and Michael Moore.

We have seen first hand what the military industrial complex along with the intel, foreign service and now law enforcement bureaucracies have done since Afghanistan and of course Vietnam. We have seen what they have done not only abroad but to the American people here at home who have dared speak out in protest to stolen elections, cultural depravity, lockdowns and the litany of issues, real and imagined, being used to completely steal our freedom and eradicate the last vestiges of our nation and society.

I'm not saying it's aliens . . . but it sure as hell is an alien culture looking "to serve man" or at least America as founded up on a platter.

The real problem with such alliances is that the solution to the identified problem will be radically different. "What comes next" will be untenable to at least one party in an alliance of opposites.

Like in China. The communists and the nationalists were very loosely aligned by way of "we need to deal with the Japanese problem." As soon as that problem went away courtesy of the US, they immediately turned on each other.

Probably a lot cheaper than sending up an F22. But, no, we have to send up a multimillion dollar aircraft because we're "tough."

Speed and setting the crash conditions are probably factors, too. Running a sortie isn't cheap but it isn't outlandishly expensive in the grand scheme things and it gives a lot of control over where, when and how the intercept (and subsequent crash) occurs. Plus we have the stuff ready to go anyway with no engineering requirements.

I'm not going to question the tactics. I do question the strategy of apparently allowing these things to operate for at least several years with no disclosure to the civilian government and no response against them.

Barring micrometeorites I don't see why it couldn't. The balloon material would need to be sturdy enough to resist breaking due to cold and vacuum but that would be the easiest problem to solve for an advanced civilization that wanted to send off a balloon into the unknown.

Now, propulsion and guidance would be an issue along with the fact that it would take millennia to get anywhere.

The vinyl chloride is a gas shipped as refrigerated liquid. It is explosive as a gas. Really toxic. So trying to transfer the liquid to another tank was the more dangerous choice. It was better to flare it.

PVC is one plastic I won't burn in my open burn barrel, because when PVC is burned, phosgene gas (COCl2)is released. That stuff is very toxic, and chokes you. I expect burning vinyl chloride monomer would do the same.

We nearly had a defensive player score twice on fumble recoveries, had the longest punt return in SB history, both quarterbacks played well in spite of significant problems with a body part (ankle with Mahommes and throwing shoulder with Hurts) and both offensive lines dominated the defensive lines who were outstanding throughout the rest of the year.

East Palestine cops told him to stop his broadcast, then told him to leave and when he did not they put him on the floor and cuffed him. He was an older gent who was obviously not a native speaker of English, so I had to repeat the word several times, a little louder, and at one point spelled it out for him, but he was not familiar with the name and finally said that they didn’t carry it.

So, when I got home asked my wife about fromunda, and said I had heard about it from the Horde. At which point, she suggested I consult Urban Dictionary. Which I did.

Boy, do I ever feel like a big dummy now.

The biggest example I can think of is when the KGB tried to nuke Honolulu and pin it on the Chinese in an attempt to trigger a nuclear war between the US and Red China so the USSR could rule as the sole remaining superpower. Nah, he owns the BNSF, I think. The Norfolk-Southern is owned mostly by the usual suspect institutional investors: Vanguard, Blackrock, JPMC, State Street, Northern Trust, etc. Of the top 10 shareholders, there are only two I don't immediately recognize: Lazard Asset Management and Geode Capital Management.

There's a real influence from old Westerns on the storytelling, but in Beyond Thunderdome it becomes nakedly religious. I find that really interesting.

I guess we could quibble over the messianic overtones of Western motifs... I guess, quite a few westerns have the 'instrument of God' idea. 'El Cid' does as well, now that I think of it, although that is obliquely religious where as the others are more subtle and more shading rather than blunt allegory.
