  • Google is planning to implement opt-out telemetry into its Go programming language. (The Register)

That means that not only will Google's own apps phone home to Google - they already do that - but every program written by anyone running anywhere if it uses Go.

Programmers have, not surprisingly, told Google to get fucked.
"Now you guys want to introduce telemetry into your programming language?" Weisz said. "This is how you drive off any person who even considered giving your project a chance despite the warning signs. Please don't do this, and please issue a public apology for even proposing it. Please leave a blast radius around this idea wide enough that nobody even suggests trying to do this again."

He added: "Trust in Google's behavior is at an all time low, and moves like this are a choice to shove what's left of it off the edge of a cliff."

The moral lepers over at Mastodon are upset that anyone would object to this latest expansion of the Panopticon:
"This is a large unconventional design, there are a lot of tradeoffs worth discussing and details to explore," he wrote. "When Russ showed it to me I made at least a dozen suggestions and many got implemented."

"Instead: all opt-out telemetry is unethical

    Correct.
    Google is evil
    It is indeed.
    this is not needed.
Go has existed for 13 years without this; other programming languages for more than 60.
No one even argued why publishing any of this data could be a problem."
Because the default in any networked system is not to send any data you don't need to send.

It doesn't matter how useful it is to Google. I don't care. It has to be useful to me.

11 I do love this fascination with calling all these people 'engineers'. Do they all have an engineering degree say in electronics, light electricity, etc. or just a BS in Computer Science? Reminds me of an old trend with Italian expats who called themselves (Civil) Engineers when they had a Surveying diploma.

She's fine today. Gritting her teeth awaiting the "procedure" on Monday.
The thing with the procedure is, they numb up the spot on the leg, then scrape it down a few layers, take samples to see if they have good margins, if not, more scraping.
Said on the sheet minimally 4 hours.

Worse part for me is, I get to wear a mask in the waiting room for 4 hours.

53 That's the biggest risk with zero lot line housing. If your neighbor is a criminal or a hazard, if something goes wrong next door, something goes wrong at your house too. There probably would have been casualties in the adjacent home if it had been occupied at the time.

Apparently the whole neighborhood was shattered, broken windows, doors ajar, and fire damage. Aside from the resident who was killed a home health aide was seriously injured but made it out alive.

If it was a meth lab then the P is reacted with Iodine,
(pronounced eye o deen, cf Chlorine and Fluorine) to make PI3, needed later. Pseudoephedrine is the starting material. The lithium is used to get a methyl group CH3 via a different method. Lithium will catch fire eventually when exposed to water. Red phosphorus is safe but white phosphorus immediately burns in air when removed from water.

It wants a g-mail account and wants your phone connected it. GM is now forcing OnStar on all new purchases for 3 yrs to ensure your stereo has data access. Used to be able to run a thumb drive with music on it and use voice control, no more. I despise google with a white hot passion, I have no g-mail or anything else google/android. 83 It is possible - and virtually certainly the actual case - for Twitter to be a dysfunctional company riddled with mentally ill activists *and* for Elon Musk to be a terrible boss without any real idea how to fix that.

He already publicly fired an engineer for telling him the honest, provable truth about how the Twitter app interacts with the back end APIs. Musk's management style appears to be "guess what I want to hear, and tell me that or you're fired".
