  • Need a 2TB M.2 2230 SSD for your Steam Deck or Surface Pro? Framework has them. (Frame.work)

Yes, the laptop company. No, the laptop doesn't use 2230 drives - they'll fit but won't lock into place - but since they already buy tons of SSDs and 2230 drives are hard to find at retail, why not make a few bucks selling just the SSDs?

I have two Dell laptops that have empty 2230 drive bays that could use these... Except they're not cheap at $299 for 2TB.

  • Intel's 24 core Sapphire Rapids Xeon W workstation CPU is 12% faster than AMD's 24 core Zen 3 Threadripper. (WCCFTech)

That's not amazing, but it's not completely terrible. Except that makes it less than 20% faster than AMD's Ryzen 7950X or Intel's own 13900K, and it will be a lot more than 20% more expensive.

  • Those Xeon W CPUs have power ratings up to 350W, which is a lot. (WCCFTech)

But this is Intel, and their 125W CPUs use up to 300W already. The 350W models use 600W, or 900W if you over clock them.

    Toasty.

7 Had enough sleep, or at least a solid one. (Thanks to melatonin.) It's cool (60 F.) and damp outside, though not as cool as yesterday morning. I worked out then, and am not sure I'm up to it today -- sheer laziness, need to recover, not sure which.

11 H'lo, JQ! The kittens are doing well: Stirling nuzzled and kneaded me as usual, and little Dagny is dashing around playing with him.

I liked your ONT story about the boyfriend who had Selective Service show up to check on him, only to find he was in the hospital.

17 MeTV is running early Barnaby Jones episodes. It's remarkable how good they are for the assembly-line production of Quinn Martin. They realized Barnaby as the "old" private eye couldn't be doing the kind of stunts Mannix did. Instead they made him clever, a folksy Columbo who actually examined crime scenes and spotted inconsistencies to build up a picture of what had really occurred. And the stories were rather Columbo-like too: As with most TV "mysteries," we got to watch the crime being committed, then watched the detective try to center on the killer and try to entrap him.

They used to have Groups, which were fun, and even Personals a long time ago, remember? Until some smart people realized those could be monetized. In the mid-'90s our local free arts newspaper used to sponsor free events for singles, and in Denver as late as '97 or '98 they were doing that too. Not no mo'.

Kitchen sink was backed up, so bf took action-- poured in the Drano and waited. And waited. And waited. No joy.

So, he decided to take the p-trap and stuff all apart, to clear the drain. Had a bucket but still got a puddle on the floor. (which he was kneeling into with one leg). "Oh, no!" Once he'd got it all put back together, figured he'd better strip off his jeans before they were ruined.

...Off came the jeans. Along with a sizeable chunk of skin just below his knee! Was a large area-- maybe inch wide and 3-4 inches long, about 1/8 inch deep-- imagine if you'd taken a vegetable peeler to your shin and made a few good long strokes with it!

I got home from w*rk just as he was headed for the bathroom to clean the wound. "Do we have any peroxide?" No. "What do we have?" Rubbing alcohol...

He sat on the edge of the tub and commanded me to pour isopropyl over that wound. "Do it! What's the matter?! Just pour it on!" Oh, gawd... so I did...

Once in oh so many years I come down with a generic try of flu. Overall body aches, loss of appetite, super-headachy all the time, and general weakness.

So it's neither usual nor unusual. They usually last for 7-10 days, sometimes less. Today is a good day. I'm out of bed, sitting in a chair and working online, at a slower pace than usual.

Plus it's a bight sunny day today, in contrast with the blessed downpours we had here in Israel over the previous days.

64 Every one of the 3 local "news" outlets for the classic networks seems incapable of hiring attractive anchors for their early "news" shows. They are all chunky to fat, frizzy-haired except for the one blonde who is starting to give Meghan McCain a run for her money in the Avoirdupois Sweepstakes. The ABC outlet hides the email to send them comments; the NBC, ditto; and the CBS, the worst of the 3, I've written to several times w/ no reply. Cows and buffaloes, all of them.

All I want is the weather and traffic. For real news I come here or check Newsmax.

73 This evening is the first big weekend of Carnival. (I wish as always I were somewhere else.) In practice this means I can't go home from work over my usual route, as it's where the parades line up. Today I'll be avoiding it all once I leave the doctor's office. On Wed-Fri next week, I have to zigzag around to take my alternate and slower route home. Fortunately there are very few parades where I live. There's one next Saturday, but I can still get home from my errands before it all starts.

I also hate this time of year because it has bittersweet associations for me. Too many memories, bad and good.

Yeah, but probably more for the prep work of removing the old tiles, sanding the floor, repairing low spots, removing trim, removing old caulk from tub, sanding and repainting trim, etc etc etc.

But its been 20 years since the last time I had to do it, so it was a good run for the last floor. White grout was beautiful when new, but this time will be dark brown.

198 One of MacArthur's former church elders is trying to cancel him because he disagrees with the way the church provided marriage counseling for 20+ years. The church didn't support wives who were asking to divorce their husbands and tack on abuse and child molestation accusations to bolster their claims. There was one case 20 years ago where the husband was eventually convicted in court, the elder is making a big deal about it now, and there is a #MeToo movement brewing with other "battered" women whose pleas for divorce were not welcomed.

Do they *really* want to set the precedent that you can be kicked out of congress for being a liar?

Posted by: Warai-otoko at February 10, 2023 06:42 AM

My wife was watching '3rd Rock from the Sun' yesterday - a comedy about clueless aliens who take on human form. I left the room but I heard her howl with laughter so I came back in to see if she was okay. Apparently the aliens discover something new they knew never existed - the lie. The female lead then says, "Wow, I hope the politicians never find out about this."

That was a great show. The actors were all great. There's another episode where the blonde starts crying (remember: aliens) and she exclaims, "I'm leaking!"

201 Victoria Nuland sounds like another Communist sociopath in this administration. Might as well have said "Let's let old people freeze to death in Germany and other parts of Europe and decrease the surplus population. Yay!""

No, Yahoo groups went the way of the four winds several years ago. I run the groups.io group, email me (link in nic) for details.

Wow. Have we gotten spoiled or what? I'm old enough to have once paid $1700 ($4380 in current dollars) for a 43MB hard drive.

Santos is just the easiest target. He won on a fluke (his expected opponent didn't run) and can be easily replaced with a Democrat. It helps that, unlike Democrats, Republicans can be relied on to form a circular firing squad.

After Santos, someone else will be up for destruction and replacement. Watch the other New York seats that got flipped.
