Posted by: Molly k. at February 09, 2023 07:40 PM Our dogs hate cats. Someone once tossed a tiny kitten in our front yard while driving down the road. She came to live in our shrubs in the front of the house and we fed her, made her a house and took care of her until she got big enough to be on her own. Took her to the vet and said would you please find her a home because if she stays at our place she will eventually find her way into the back yard and the dogs will kill her. We paid to get her fixed and gave the vet about 10 cases of canned cat food to keep her going. They got her adopted after a few weeks. Posted by: Aetius451AD at February 09, 2023 07:45 PM (CsVWE) Back when I had a dog (my dog, not the ex's dog), when she was younger, we used to call it Bowling For Cats. More like bowling WITH cats, I guess. She would get all worked up, run through the house, and any cat that was in her path (which was as wide as she wanted to make it), she would sorta hip check 'em, and send them flying. The cats were not pleased, but she was just having fun. Never even considered doing anything with her front end to them. -------- Brings back memories of punched paper tape data storage used with our hardcopy terminal (pre-video terminal) in my first computer science class senior year in high school ('78-'79). Five years later Apple donated a bunch of MacIntoshes to my university down the peninsula from Cupertino. Wow. GUI and a mouse! There was even a 1-unit elective class that taught its original software programs: MacWrite, MacPaint, and some of the other available software. Also took an assembly language programming class using the Motorola MC68000 instruction set -- that was cool. A few weeks ago, I noticed one of our hens was wet and not roosting properly on the bar. Everyone else had been out in the rainy weather and looked fine, but she looked miserable.
Since it was cold, I took her inside and gave her a spa time, cleaned her up a bit then dried her off with a hair dryer. Fluffed her up, warmed her up. She loved it so much she just stayed still and let me minister to her. Took her back out to the roost when she was all dry. Hen Spa. Posted by: Flyover at February 09, 2023 08:44 PM (Rbu5d) 110
Another spa day. And another spa day. -------- Those Golden Retrievers appear to be Zen Masters in Water -- a quick search reveals that they "have a dense, water-repellent outer coat with a thick undercoat, which insulates them against the cold, while the upper layer is longer and lies flat, repelling water." And obviously, they had to retrieve fowl that had been shot from wet locations. Was unaware though that they originated in Scotland, home of my male ancestral line. * Goes to do image search of Golden Retrievers in kilts * Posted by: ShainS -- I'm a Freeborn Man of the USA at February 09, 2023 08:45 PM (VV/gG) 111

That boat is a Schooner, looks to be about sixty ft. on the hull, with another twelve or fifteen ft. or so from the Bowsprit.
Beamy looking ship, it'll have a ridiculous amount of volume belowdecks. Huge amount of room for hundreds and hundreds of gallons of fuel, freshwater, grey & blackwater tanks. Spare parts, massive battery banks, tools, watermakers, FOOD, and just more "etc" than you can shake a belaying pin at. Think of it as being a luxury condo that can take you 'round the world. Or, given a more utilitarian layout, a Moron's bootlegging boat of the first order. *hic!* Jim Sunk New Dawn Galveston, TX Posted by: Jim at February 09, 2023 08:45 PM (e6UQI) 113

https://tinyurl.com/26ppxx26 Kind of makes me wonder about China's Ghost towns or the problem overall with Command economies and Technocrats. The thing is, most cities grow organically. There is a reason people are there. Trade, resources, on a trade route, etc. You cannot just snap your fingers and create a functioning community to spec and I just realized that Constantinople worked exactly like that. Ok, fair brain, but Constantinople was in a highly useful strategic spot between east and west empire and is possibly the most defensible city on the face of the planet (pre gunpowder.) Posted by: Tom Servo at February 09, 2023 09:46 PM (r46W7) Because Constantinople was a city purely conceived and built by Constantine. Byzantium existed there, but it was not really a big town (which seem really odd, given it's advantages.) I was trying to make a point about 'forcing things inorganically' and then realized a counter argument to my thesis. Considering Constantinople is a 'planned city' that has lasted 1700 years, it kind of has to be accounted for. Posted by: Aetius451AD at February 09, 2023 09:49 PM (CsVWE) 189

Then they said - some ppl think it's the vax and not covid it's itself and they had the talking head MD address it. He said Covid is 16x more likely to cause heart problems than the shot. So best to get vaxxed.
He basically admitted the shot can cause heart problems. ---- How did they come to that conclusion, based on the SMALL number of unvaxed? Especially as you can be vax'd, and get the Vids. ---- Blaming everything on the COVID-19s is all the rage. The vaccine did nothing bad to anyone ever. Anything bad like strokes and heart attacks that happened to anyone had to have been COVID-19 even if they never tested positive for it or showed any signs of it. And that part where they never had COVID-19 was because of the vaccine, thank you very much. Even if they weren't vaccinated. My understanding as to why the pre-Roman Byzantium never got too big is that although it was in a very strategic spot, it never had a great power to defend it. Thus it kept getting burned to the ground every few decades..

Before I forget, let me third or fourth the thank you to Ace for this, it really is such a fun ritual now for me and my daughter to watch the animal videos and look at the gorgeous pictures. It has expanded now where she finds pretty geographical pictures and has a ranking system with the highest rank “Ace Worthy”. So thank you, Ace!

Considering Constantinople is a 'planned city' that has lasted 1700 years, it kind of has to be accounted for.

Same with the deep ocean fishing trips that go out to the Rocas Alijos...or known to the Long Range fisherduds out of San Diego as the Alijos Rocks. The Tiger and Local sharks are now tuned to the arrival of the fishing boats by their engine vibrations and post up below the boats to rip off the Tuna and other prime fish that the fishermen try to boat. Bear things always remind me of a possibly apocryphal story of a park ranger who was asked the question; why can't you design a totally bear-proof dumpster?

Back in 1968, our paperboy just up and died while running in P.E. in Jr. High. Congenital heart defect.
Back in the day, it was rare. ----- And it is very possible that it is no more common now, just with better reporting we have more observed cases. --- Now everyone seems to know a few people that it's happened to. Not hearsay, either. Actual knowledge of people. IIRC the monthly incidence of deaths among athletes is 1700% higher than it averaged between the 60s and early 2000s. That's a tad higher than I would think "improved reporting" would yield. Another weird 1700% coincidence:
"The number of medical events that triggered official reporting requirements among U.S. military pilots rose more than 1,700% from 2019 to 2022, an increase the Pentagon says was the result of COVID-19. ... the number of reportable medical events among military aviators rose from an average 226 a year between 2016 and 2019 to 4,059 in 2022, according to the Defense Medical Epidemiology Database.' https://tinyurl.com/2yydjfa7 I wonder what was special about military members in 2022? Posted by: Aetius451AD at February 09, 2023 09:59 PM (CsVWE) I don't know. Is it suspicious? Absolutely. But anyone who denies the shortcomings of data that are based on self-reporting is a fool. We have far more access to medical information now than we did just a few years ago. Until we can correct for that, it will remain simply suspicious.
