Top Story

Before Intel cut the pay of everyone from the CEO to the mail room clerk, it quietly made changes to the stock benefits for senior executives... Making them worse. (WCCFTech)

Yeah, normally they'd do an end run around the public salary cuts by propping up the overall package, but in this case stock bonuses have been delayed and the performance requirements extended - more growth over a longer period before the bonuses are triggered.

This shouldn't be hugely notable, but compared to Intel's behaviour before Gelsinger became CEO, it's a dramatic reversal. If the company has been run like this all those years, it wouldn't be in trouble today. Also AMD would be toast.

Speaking of Intel, the company's new workstation CPUs will launch this monthish. (WCCFTech)

Full details (and presumably prices) on the 15th, reviews on the 22nd, with low-end parts arriving at retail in March and high-end parts in April.

Which is much better than the usual pattern where the most expensive parts arrive first and if you're not made of money you're stuck waiting for anything affordable.

I don't know if these will be particularly attractive offerings but they do have a slim chance since unlike Intel's server chips they're launching against older Zen 3 Threadripper parts from AMD.

Everything really comes down to pricing anyway: Outside of ray tracing, AMD's low-to-midrange Radeon 6000 cards are the best value right now - from the RX 6600 up through the 6750 XT they deliver much better value than either AMD or Nvidia's new ranges.

Well sure, if you boost serotonin it will alleviate depression. I'm less convinced that messing with serotonin will not have long-term consequences. But what do I know.

34 I always have been a morning person but I've had insomnia ever since COVID started, I believe mostly from work-related stress rarely sleep past 6 hours. More recently I have been going back to sleep for an hour or two which has worked well, except for some reason Boy F. doesn't like it and insists on demanding "Dad wake up!" every 10 minutes. Autism speaks yeah but sometimes it won't shut up

44 This planned move to Pa is proving more challenging than anticipated, I didn't factor in the price difference in heating oil, propane and NG.

In NJ I have NG, all of the homes in PA have a combo of heating oil and propane and holy hell is heating oil and propane expensive right now, it also seems that electricity is more expensive in pa as well.

What the hell is going on in that state?

I recently cleaned out my two car garage - that we never park a car in - and discovered that it's actually a decent place to walk around in. I turn some music on and just walk in a circle. Then my wife discovered what I was doing and now she does the same thing.

I think winter makes us both a little stir crazy. Nine months out of the year we hike a couple times a week at nearby trails. But when its 20 degrees and overcast its no fun to walk outside. Sunny day, no wind, in the 30's? We'll venture out.

Welcome to Pennsylvania. Yeah, I think as far as electricity is concerned they figured out a way to cost shift away from Philly to the burbs. On my bill the 'distribution charge' is the same as the generating charge. So the cost is doubled.

At our grocery store there was an older couple that would come in and walk the aisles. After a few years we noticed the wife was looking like she was getting confused and would just kind of shamble along. Soon, she would sit in an area where the free coffee is while the husband walked. I've not seen either of them for 3 or 4 years.

Now I go shopping with my wife so I can get my steps in when the weather is lousy....

As far as propane and oil, they're expensive everywhere. I'm lucky with a passive solar home, on a slope, so that a good deal of soil insulates the north side of the home. With absolutely no heat it will stay at around 50 degrees during the worst of winter. Two rooms we heat to mid 70's with space heaters and a pair of 10,000 btu kerosene units for quick warm up in the morning then off. I simply don't care to bust the budget for three months out of the year.

It all depends on perspective. A 50 degree spring day and everyone is outside and comfortable if dressed correctly. But we have to have two rooms that we can escape to and sit around in. The rest of the house? Screw it. And Biden.
