Hunter Biden's ChiCom-Connected "Art Dealer" Lawyers Up, Won't Commit to Testifying Before Congress

The most corrupt family in America.

Hunter Biden's infamous art dealer with Chinese connections has not agreed to testify before Congress, citing the need to consult with legal counsel.

Georges Bergès, who has dubbed Hunter an "American story," confirmed on Thursday he received the House Oversight Committee's demanded letter from Wednesday requesting his appearance before the investigative panel.

"This week the Chairman of the House Committee on Reform & Oversight of the 118th Congress of the United States of America issued a letter to the Georges Bergès Gallery with certain requests," Bergès told Fox News.

"At the moment I cannot comment and I will refer you to my legal counsel, but know that my singular focus has always been, and will continue to be, the integrity of our artists and the privacy of our art collectors," he said.

It remains unclear if Bergès will testify with or without receiving a subpoena from the committee.

Hunter reportedly sold at least five paintings for $75,000 to anonymous buyers in 2021. The price tags for Hunter's pieces are up to $500,000.

But really, of the two, Marius had a better understanding of what was going wrong but it still wasn't exactly a top priority for him.

The Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego is speaking out.

"Our conclusions are based on empirical evidence," said Gutierrez. "We think the people should know about the human costs of the wall." Gutierrez said the data showed in 2022, 80% of people who were injured while trying to cross the border have been attributed to people falling off the border wall.

Though critics argue migrants shouldn’t be trying to cross illegally in the first place, Gutierrez said, "I hear people say, ‘Well, they should just make a line and wait their turn on a legal basis.’ We need to remind people the system is broken. For example, for a Mexican national, that line means waiting 20 plus years, and if you are a father or mother of children on this side or the other way around, it is only human you will try to cross this border in an undocumented way.”

188 Why blue cities are collapsing, Part XVIII.

Someone from Winnipeg:

as someone who has been riding public transit consistently for a decade, the number one thing that would make me feel safer is more frequent service. not transit cops. here’s why:

i’ve been in several situations where people have become agitated on the bus and I debated getting off. many times I stayed on, because I knew the next bus wouldn’t come for another 15-20 mins & I’d be late for work.

...

the violence that’s been happening on busses is inexcusable, but we have to be careful about knee-jerk reactions. and please, consult actual riders about what would make them feel safer! too often people who don’t take the bus at all make wrongful assumptions about what works.

Since obviously we can't enforce social norms on mass transit, the alternative is to make it easier for riders to abandon a bus when a crazy/violent person decides to take over a bus. Too bad about the driver...

There's been talk in the home video circles over the past day because Disney announced their first relatively major licensing deal in years yesterday. It's not much, a minor label (Mill Creek) getting stuff that was previously licensed to other labels (like Twilight Time) that have been out of print for a while, and a couple of hundred titles.

However, it does seem like part of a corporate change to try and find money wherever it can, and that's not because Disney+ is a major money maker.

The correct solution is to make the wall so intimidating that no one would even dare try to climb it. It should be dripping with poison-coated spikes and razor blades, made of the blackest basalt on earth, and soar at least 100 feet into the air. The earth in front should be scorched black for at least 1 mile in front of the wall and anything living thing that enters that zone is vaporized by powerful laser turrets mounted at the top.

The Black Gate of Mordor should look inviting by comparison.

259 The logic there is astonishing.

Mass transit use in Portland is still down more than half from pre-pandemic (the same is true of BART in the Bay Area).

The reason was that the crazies took over the trains during the pandemic, so normal people won't ride them anymore.

So-called "transit advocates" hate cops, so they hate the idea of cops on trains. Their great solution is to make transit free, which would make transit even more of a rolling homeless shelter than it already is.

YD,
This comes about because bureaucracies are risk averse and use a stupid one size fits all rule--e.g. armed===can shoot whether or not any other alternatives make better sense. At the same time, any person with an independent thought tries to steer clear of such insanity and as a result, the street level enforcers become robotic in their actions.

You have to give discretion to street level people and then punish those that abuse it rather than heaping overseer upon overseer on them. See Teachers, Social Workers, police, etc.

I'm being half-way serious here. If we made the wall so scary and intimidating that no one would dare try to climb it, then they might also get the idea that the USA is not quite the paradise behind the wall that they've been led to believe by their own people trying to get rid of them. Then we also start rumors that the wall is as much to keep the crazy Americans *in* as it is to keep the rest of the world out. Works for North Korea.

336 I just looked up Jackson Pollock.

I call that shArt........

Pollock is controversial, but at least he was trying to do something interesting. He's not just putting period blood on a diaper or something asinine like that. Also, despite being chaotic, there's a beautiful semi-organization to some of it.

Look at this painting for example:
https://bit.ly/3HtQT5E

Sure it's chaotic, but it's sort of an organized chaos. Pollock famously enjoyed the criticism that his works didn't have a beginning or end. It doesn't tell a story. It's just something interesting to look at. I personally find it much more interesting than hyper-realistic work.

And the U-Haul Index makes it a bitch and a half. It gets you when you get out. For example, using a 26' truck:

I can see someone wanting a piece of his art. What I saw wasn't awful. The condition of him selling it should have been transparency, to know who bought it. If it's always just some random person who thought that blue would go well with their sofa and found it interesting because of who Hunter Biden is and is related to, then it's all good. He could keep painting as it seems he actually enjoys it.

But someone, very weirdly, decided that it made sense that in order to be sure that pay-off shenanigan's are NOT happening, that the purchasers should remain anonymous.

Which is completely backward and utterly irrational.

Universities are not always good at long-term planning. They made major budget cuts where I work for a short-term gain, almost eliminating my department. They later realized that it was a bad idea and are struggling to accomplish tasks that my department could have handled easily if it were fully staffed.

399 I looked at some of Hunter Biden's paintings on line. They're vaguely interesting, though I must admit that that style is not my cup of tea. However, I've seen the like at many an art fair over the years; they're nothing special. And while the art market is nuts, I can't imagine anyone paying half a million for any of them if they'd been painted by Hunter Smith or Hunter Lopez.

If they picked correctly they got to keep the expensive painting. Of course the person off the street couldn't pick the "real" work of art. As has been pointed out, money is fungible. If the money to support DEI is not coming from the state, but the university wants to keep it, they'll have to come up with creative solutions. They may be limited in their ability to increase tuition, but they can always squeeze money from alumni/corporate partnerships--until they can't squeeze any more.

THAT'S when DEI may finally die on campus, when no one is willing to fund it anymore from any source.

One of the more stupid things that average people do is try to stop and look at wrecks, confrontations with the police, and so on.

One thing to always remember about videos--if it is not wide angle, then you are only seeing part of the picture. It is very possible that idiots were congregating just to see what would happen but are out of frame. It is also possible that whoever trained that cop or the cop himself had a inflated idea of risk from a double amputee and by default went into stay alive to go home mode.

This is why the "elite" and "intellectual" need to destroy simple societal rules makes me angry. Some people need simple and consistent rules. Like...get married and stay married. Work hard and be admired for working hard. Be honest. Go to church. Trust God.

All the "crutches" that the enlightened think they don't need and that they view as oppression while they make excuses for the poor if they break the law because we can't expect otherwise.

Those crutches hold society together for those people who really are not capable of figuring out civilization from scratch when someone kicks the crutches out from under them.

Funny you should mention that. About 10-15 years ago, a guy at Memphis State Univ studied how the end of public housing in Memphis and the rise of paying vouchers affected crime rates. What he found is instead of concentrating most violent crime and criminals in specific areas around public housing, the elimination of that housing and public vouchers for rentals meant that crime was distributed throughout the city itself and the police were now less effective at dealing with it because criminals were diffused throughout the entire city.

553 Marriage, hard work, and churchianism have all been corrupted. You can fucked over just as hard, if not worse, by those institutions - especially marriage. All part of the plan to disrupt society I suppose but those things in their current formulations are not the foundations of a solid life that they perhaps once were.

Yeah things have been pretty thoroughly poisoned across the board. Rebuilding will be a messy and painful process.

557 I always liked the analogy that the world is made up of 90% Sheep and 5% Wolves and 5% Sheep Dogs.

The problems always arise when the sheep can't tell the difference between the wolves and the sheep dogs.

Our problem is a leadership problem, it is rotten and needs to be thrown out. The Constitution while, a nice idea, has no mechanism for that. This means they can stay in their leadership roles as long as they wish, or until they create a crisis large enough to fitness test them for those positions. If they fail that fitness test they'll be stripped of their status, wealth, and possibly their lives, and then a new set of competent leaders will emerge. The country may or may not survive that process. My money is that it won't.
