Getting All Your Ducks in a Row Video of the Day

The video he's reacting to is by CGP Grey who I've mentioned before, but this channel is new to me. And he's quite good. I haven't caught him in an error (at least not one he didn't correct himself on), and he's caught every error that I caught in content he was responding to, plus some errors I didn't catch.

He's knowledgeable, seems to be conservative-leaning though not outspoken about it, and likes to explore historical what-ifs. Oh, and he loathes Woodrow Wilson.

Alternative idea. Pull the HDD out of the Win 7 machine and drop it into an external enclosure/interface. From there, assuming you have another machine, you can copy the files and photos you want from the HDD to your other machine.

You want a PS where the amperage rating at all the various output voltages is at least the same as the old one.

Also, make sure the connectors match, that the new PS has the proper connectors. These have changed over the years.

If you have another machine and it has an empty slot for a 3.5 HDD (I am assuming this is what is in the old machine) you can remove the HHD from the Win 7 box, put it in the new machine and connect to an unused HHD cable. It is quite straight forward to check if this is possible. And if it isn't find an 8th grader that is into PC gaming, they'll know.

Posted by: JQ

That "80 Plus Bronze" is helpful because it means you have a modern standard power supply and not something weird.

Anything that can deliver at least 220W - and you would have a hard time finding anything that does less than that - will work, so long as it fits.

If it's a regular ATX unit then no problem, you can find something brand new and better for under fifty bucks. Newegg has a 500W Thermaltake model on sale for $35 right now.

If it's a smaller SFX model you're looking at between $70 and $100; they're less common so these less choice of cheap models.

You may wonder why I didn't mention what UT1 was, only UTC. Well, dUT1, the difference is only about 9ms now. For all practical purposes, UT1 = UTC.

The Erf's rotation has been speeding up over the past few years, and thus no leap second has had to be added since 2016. If it keeps up, we may need the first ever negative leap second.

That probably won't happen, as the speed up is likely temporary. But it will be several more years before a leap second is needed.

Driving one time in a wind/ice slick freeway in central Ill, a line of slow moving, one lane traffic all going along about 30 MPH. Then an Audi AWD decides he? is going to pass all of us because we don't know what we're doing.

He gets along side the car ahead of me. Starts fish tailing, goes down the embankment backwards, with all 4 tires spinning....I didn't stop.

Had a guy pass me once because I was going too slow for him on a 3 lane. 132 > It says "80 plus Bronze" Posted by: JQ

Pixy already gave a great answer, but it's worth knowing what that part means.

It's about how energy-efficient it is at delivering usable power instead of waste heat. Power supplies with an 80 plus label are rated on a scale of /bronze/silver/gold/platinum/titanium. Higher grades are supposed to be more efficient.

So don't worry about trying to match bronze for bronze here. If, say, you find a suitable "gold" power supply instead and it meets your budget, then go for it.

147 The thing is, she proposed a completely absurd medical hypothetical situation which would never happen: a parent brings their normal healthy kid in to the er for an illness, and I diagnose kidney failure. The parents say they are going to leave AMA to let their kid die at home. What do I do? Well, they aren't taking the kid home. I call CPS. The kid might have an entirely fixable problem. Now she is pissed at me and calling me things which can't be unsaid because my answer doesn't fit with her real life situation where her chronically terminally ill child might have been diagnosed with a worsening condition. See, that is an entirely different conversation with the parents and going home to die might be the right choice.

Re leap seconds. The Time Lords adopted a resolution in Nov 2022 to eliminate leap seconds by 2035. Leap seconds cause all sorts of problems with computer systems, cause the idiots demand UTC tick at atomic time, not UT1 time (rubber seconds). But that's just my opinion.

Anyway, they have until 2035 to come up with a resolution. Difference between atomic time and UT1 would accumulate at about 1 minute per 100 years.

So, there will be some proposal to thus have a leap minute every 100 years, or a leap hour every few thousands years, as necessary.

Not just NFL. College, too. We were discussing Alabama last night. One of the most penalized teams in the nation this season and last, with the QB that will likely be the #1 draft pick and a defensive lineman that could easily be the #2 draft pick. And would probably be #1 if the QB weren't there. They were the most penalized team while playing under indisputably the best coach of college football.

The best defensive player in the country, the hardest pass rusher to stop in the entire nation, and Alabama opponents finally had their second (2nd) holding call during the 3rd quarter of the post-season bowl game.

Yeah. Pull the other one.

It still surprises me, how much personal investment some put into an event they have no control over, put on by people they have very little in common with and no personal connection with at all - other than a logo. A fairly arbitrary brand affiliation.

Its one of the things I actually think the younger generations get right; their measurable detachment from sports fandom.

186 I've watched a few sports recently and as it was previously, it's gotten worse. Game play is what it is. The athletes now are ridiculous. They're all big and largely fine tuned machines. The biggest issue is officiating. I watched the AFC Championship game and those guys should be embarrassed with what they did on that field. I mean, I was incredibly tired of officials injecting themselves into the outcome of ball games and they've only gotten worse.

The LeBitch James reaction to the obvious no call was embarrassing for him, but he was right in being pissed. Flopping on the floor like a little baby was just LeBitch being a bitch, but, he had cause.

I can't watch much anymore with the state of officiating across the board.

Alternative idea. Pull the HDD out of the Win 7 machine and drop it into an external enclosure/interface. From there, assuming you have another machine, you can copy the files and photos you want from the HDD to your other machine.

You live in a city like LA, with smog issues, and you have a short commute? By all means, buy an EV and do some small part to improve the air quality. Good for you. Must be nice to afford such an expensive vehicle.

But EV's are not the solution for everyone. Nor can the grid even remotely handle more that about a 2% ratio. Nor should ICE vehicles subsidize your destruction of roads. Plus 100 other reasons why they suck. But 10% to the Big Guy.
