Mike Pence Says He's Got Classified Documents At His Home, Too
Donald Trump gets grief for a lot of his personnel picks. And one of the bad ones was Mike Pence.
The insult that Obama directed at Biden applies to Pence: There is nothing that Pence can't f*ck up. He'd get lost following the recipe for boiling water, and wind up voting with the Democrats to ban gas stoves. So now comes this blockhead to rescue Biden.A lawyer for former Vice President Mike Pence says that a dozen classified documents were discovered at Pence's home last week, and that the files were turned over to the FBI. A source close to the matter told CNN that the files were discovered at Pence's Indiana home last week. The FBI and Justice Department's National security Division have launched a review of how the documents got to Pence's home.More on this idiot's tale:
Vice President Mike Pence informed Congress Tuesday that he discovered documents bearing classified markings in his Carmel, Indiana, home on Jan. 16 from his time as vice president. Following the revelations that classified documents from President Biden's tenure as vice president were found at the Penn Biden Center think tank and Wilmington, Delaware, the vice president's team conducted searches of Pence's Indiana home and the office of his political advocacy group, Advancing American Freedom. According to his team, Pence informed the National Archives on Jan. 18 of a small number of potential classified documents found in two small boxes. Another two boxes contained copies of vice presidential papers. The National Archives then informed the FBI per standard procedure. Pence attorney Greg Jacob wrote on Jan. 18 to Acting Director Kate Dillon McClure of the White House Liaison Division National Archives and Records Administration to inform her of the papers "containing classified markings." After the documents with classified markings were discovered, they were immediately put into a safe, according to the Pence team.Note he could have searched his home for classified documents when Trump was being blitzed by the Deep State, but said, "Nah, I'll just put that on my 'to-don't' list." Apparently it's not even determined these are classified documents -- they just have classified markings. Someone will have to decide if they really are classified. So this could be a false alarm from Stonebrain McGee over here. How many classified documents do Michael Hayden, James Clapper, and John Brennan have in their safes? It is time for all federal officials and Congressmen to conduct a search of their premises and announce whether they have classified documents, giving them 30 days limited amnesty to make that declaration, and then promising to prosecute them all to the fullest if they fail to declare and are later found to have such documents. That's a kinder bargain than they gave Trump.

That's not really how classified stuff works. It is the information more so than some specific quantity of documents that is classified/secret/top secret/special clearance.
And there tends not to be much aggregation for security reasons. Most aggregation occurs in order to declassify stuff down the road, otherwise the documents would all just be burned and forgotten.

The National Archives doesn't have broad knowledge on what classified materials are in existence. It would depend on self-reporting essentially.
Say the military starts developing a next-gen fighter. National Archives doesn't automatically know that.

How does that work? I'm going to steal classified information but I'm not going to know that's what I'm doing. I'm going to store it in my house which has so many documents that nobody has even bothered to look at them for all these years, much less organize them. I don't have a clue what is stored in my house which I paid a lot of money for and have a lot of employees to take care of.
It's things like this that make me think there really is some sort of resistance movement going on. There's got to be a lot of others who are starting to wonder if they actually committed the crimes they were so glad to see Trump attacked for. Maybe within a few years, they'll get around to actually looking at what they have at home. Not that we'll ever hear about it.

Oh Trump almost certainly communicated all of what he had with him as part of the exit/transition process. Iirc there was ongoing dialogue and cooperation well before the FBI raid, which was both arbitrary and unnecessary.

The Pence fumble makes me believe that Joe will see it as reinforcement for the action he wants to do anyway: Dodge all blame, responsibility, accountability, being an idiot, putting America at risk, etc.
He will claim he never took the documents his lawyers and the FBI discovered. He will claim he has absolutely no idea how or when the documents got to the places they were discovered. Period. The less he says, the better for him.
As always, Joe will deny he did anything wrong. Accepting responsibility for any of it goes against his nature. He will believe any admission of intentional or accidental mishandling of classified materials will hurt both his chances for re-election and his legacy. Total denial also puts him above Trump, who he will brand a treasonous criminal in the same speech he denies all responsibility for the documents found on his properties.
To get away with it, Joe needs the Special Counsel, Wray, and Garland to ultimately say their investigations show Joe did nothing wrong. Period.

It's not the documents themselves that matter (or at least, not that much), it's having the security clearance, and the higher, more limited that clearance is, the higher the status of the holder. In DC, having a clearance is considered an entitlement and having it yanked for any reason is a public disgrace.

It goes along with reducing the reason for classification of documents anyway. Reduce the scope of activity for fedgov and the number of classified documents goes way down. This is especially true for shutting down the CIA and various other civilian agencies. A lot of what the CIA and foreign policy analysts create as classified documents are actually inferior to crowd sourced information from the net--the reason is organizational capture.

The FBI found out Biden had stolen classified documents A LONG TIME AGO. They probably figured it out in early 2020 when they went through Hunter's laptop and read his emails that contain the same classified info.
The raid on Mar A Lago was a construct, meant to blunt the effect on Biden of what is coming out now. Meanwhile, all the disclosures by Biden have been carefully orchestrated and timed.
This move by Pence is part of that. They are going to try to say that what Biden did was perfectly okay, WHILE AT THE SAME TIME PROSECUTING TRUMP so that he can't run for president.
It's another total hoax. Trump actually DIDN'T break the law. As a president, his handling of classified documents is handled under the Presidential Records Act, disputes under which are handled in civil court.
What Biden did was larceny, theft of classified documents and through Hunter's activities espionage and also FARA violations probably, Go to jail type stuff.
They are trying to pull off jailing Trump for what Biden did. Even though what Trump did was perfectly lawful.
