Bravo to the Wyoming lawmakers who introduced legislation to phase out electric vehicles in their state by 2035. It’s a brilliant move to highlight the fact that freedom-lovers must push back as blue states and the federal government roll out bans on gas-powered cars, which are the engine of freedom. In fact, this Wyoming legislative action is pretty much what I proposed back in 2021. To Counter Blue State EV Mandates, Red States Need to Start Mandating Gas-Powered Cars [Buck Throckmorton at AOSHQ – 9/27/2021]It is imperative that Texas, other oil-patch states, and all freedom-loving states (hello Florida) start fighting back. If New York can pass a law mandating that 100% of all new vehicle sales are EVs, then Texas (and Florida, and Tennessee, and Louisiana, etc) can pass laws mandating that no less than xx% - let’s say 90% hypothetically - of all new vehicle sales in their states must be gas-powered vehicles.The Wyoming legislation is not likely to get passed into law, but it is receiving extensive media coverage. He said sponsors got what they wanted by provoking a national conversation about bans on gas-powered vehicles, and that an actual ban on electric vehicles would be “ludicrous.” “I think the thought of an electric vehicle ban is truly completely ludicrous, but it’s no more ludicrous than a ban on gasoline powered vehicles,” he said.That is pretty much what I said too. ”In a sane world, consumers in every state would have the freedom of choice to buy whatever types of cars they want. But sanity has been lost, so a mandate to sell gas-powered cars in red states is necessary to ensure that consumers will still have the choice to buy something other than EVs. But if this new “national conversation” doesn’t get the left to back down on their efforts to ban gasoline-powered vehicles, then we need to ban their precious electric vehicles. How exactly will this matter at all when federal CAFE regulations (and massive fines that come with them if regulations not met for CO2 emissions and average MPG targets) are what drive all automotive company decisions. Unless Wyoming and other states are going to change CAFE standards, these state laws are meaningless.

It’s distressing, but shelves are often empty now because the golden goose of free market capitalism was killed by the Covid response. If government stays out of the way, and stops paying people not to work, and stops punishing farming and transportation, etc, etc, the shelves will eventually be full again. Eventually.

When automakers are no longer making ICE vehicles, the mandates will only serve to punish the citizens of the state who will be unable to buy any new ICE vehicles and will be forced to try to keep old ICE vehicles running longer. Or not be able to drive at all if they cannot keep their ICE vehicles operational.

It won't be a "national conversation" except for the "national" side of it in the press and other propaganda organs making fun of Wyoming for being so backwards. The shortages at my local Fred Meyer (Kroger) are interesting.
Every week it is something new. The baby formula is under lock and key with a ration of two per customer.
Last week it was cold medicines for both adults and kids. The week before it was cereal. Before that it as flour.
(One thing they always have is Kroger brand ice cream. No one buys that crap.)
I was thinking it was just due to a shortage of workers to keep the shelves stocked. But now, I agree with Buck. It runs deeper than that. And it isn't going away.

COVID is a part of it and 2020 was a revolutionary year. The debt is larded up and the globalist system is beginning to fracture. We've spent 40 years building that globalist system, and we are dependent on its inputs. A stoppage in China or reduced output in Germany or export controls in Indonesia have tremendous consequences and they cascade through the highly efficient but also very brittle system. The longer the supply chain, the worse off you are.
The realignment back to regionalism - which I do think is going on - is going to be brutal. That inflation we deferred through globalization is back and will be back for some time. The supply chains we outsourced for thirty years will have to be remade. The Postwar order is ending.

Lileks has a lot of car culture Americana up on his site. Hotels, Motels. What I found fascinating was a restaurant that had been built overlooking the freeway. It was like an overpass restaurant with big glass windows that looked out over the road. For some reason, it seemed so captivating and interesting.
I love the idea of the 50s more than I probably would have enjoyed the reality, but damn, does it look wonderful from here.

My fear is that the warehouses are increasingly bare.Not every utility company necessarily has adequate spare parts, but they can be obtained by borrowing or buying from other companies. Until recently, apparently. That's worrying for me. I wonder how much of our infrastructure parts supply chain depends on Chinese or other Far East manufacturing or German manufacturing. Have we been eating up inventory for three years and now we're in trouble with no means to effectively replace it at required scale?

Texas, what's with Elon Musk moving his stuff here and all, probably wouldn't ban EVs, but here's a way it could work.
1) Restrict EVs to no more than 2%(or less) of the current vehicles in Texas, because -
we have neither the electrical generating ability or the grid capacity to support what a massive increase in EVs would entail.
2) Link the number of EVs allowed to the building of new completed nuclear power plants*, say 6-8 statewide, and the bulking up of "dumb" grid capacity independent of any linkage out of state.
3) Set the maximum number of allowed EVs at 5-10% of the power generating and grid capacity beginning in 2035 if and only if it can be demonstrated that this number of EVs cannot cause overload or grid failure during high stress times like very low or very high temperatures.
4) Pass a law allowing all CO2tards to be kicked in the nuts or cuntpunted whenever and wherever they open their pinholes regarding climate or...well, anything. Even their favorite M&Ms color.
*NG or coal plants would be fine as well, but CO2tards heads would explode.

Only government is big enough to do something totally stupid and make it appear to work, so it creates the market for EVs by greasing state and local governments into buying fleets of these things, which creates the idea in the public that there is a market for these things.

OT: Just did a quick back-of-the-envelope calc of my taxes, and it looks as if I will owe quite a bit less than I originally estimated. I was counting my wages as higher than is shown on my W-2.

Last summer, the Pacific Northwest nearly ran out of chlorine (needed to purify water supplies), because the local chlorine plant had its transformer blow, and couldn't quickly replace it, when some other chlorine plants across the country were down.

I remember those growing up. Had them all over the Midwest in the 1980s. Had a lot of them in Illinois around the Chicago area. I remember passing one all the time when we made trips to O'Hare Airport to pick up friends/family and when we took trips to Wisconsin Dells and Rockford for the Water Park there.

I haven't needed horse feed for while. The last time I was in the local TSC they had a sign in the livestock feed section something like "Scratch grains and cracked corn will be unavailable until further notice"
So even the folks that got their own chickens are having to deal with shortages now. They did have some other kinds of poultry feed for sale but that sign was odd. It was not "we're out until the next shipment comes on Tuesday", it was out until further notice.

The wife's RDX is getting the 100,000 mile service, so they gave her a loaner car, a 2022 Acura TLX. It is one impressive car, its lit up like a starship inside at night. 10 speed trans, turbo, fast as shit, AWD, super comfy with a massive amount of leg room. Down side, it cost 50K for the version they lent her. I actually thought of getting one just to have a new ICE in the stable, but that price kinda stopped that idea.

Both cars gave consumers a great reason to buy them; the Feels got incentives added, but they probably weren't even necessary. Make a better product, and consumers will beat a path to your door. The government didn't force people to give up the horse for a Model T a hundred years ago, and it's not necessary now.

did you guys see the videos of chicken farmers saying after this past halloween they must have changed the laying feed somehow b/c their chickens weren't producing? a lot of these people said they had to change to some home made feed and just like that the chickens were laying again

The doctor-patient relationship is an agency relationship (meaning the doctor is your agent with all the constraints an agency relationship imposes) when you are paying him. But when you aren't, he's no longer working for you. He doesn't cease to be an agent; he's just someone else's agent. Your doctor really isn't loyal to you, the patient, anymore. And why would he be? Because of a an old Greek oath?

For every 10,000 electric vehicles on the road build 1-2 nuclear power plants. This will more than offset the electricity requirements they demand.
If they can power aircraft carriers and submarines (and why not destroyers and frigates Navy! Why did you decomm. the Californias and Virginias well before their prime!) they can power the EV's.

Examples of substitution would be soybean meal for fish meal, oyster shells instead of calcium, milo aka grain sorghum instead of corn. Milo in particular can cause chickens to reduce production.

I give it 50-50 that the fiscal crisis will hit before the 2024 election. The Fed will try desperately to stave it off by printing money, which will inevitably result in 1980-style hyperinflation and higher nominal interest rates.
The only answer to the fiscal crisis will be that the federal government just stop entire programs, departments, and agencies. The Democrats will proclaim it as a win that they got a transition period instead of them being defunded altogether.
Asset sales will be on the table, the biggest and fattest of which will be the Treasury's student loan portfolio that can be easily sold to Wall Street. The easiest programs to shut down will be those that are being administered primarily by the states anyway, like Medicaid, housing, and TNF (welfare). Some states will maintain benefit levels and some won't.

You can get a version of the Prius hybrid system in nearly everything Toyota makes now, so it didn't have a lot of a purpose by itself. The media was calling for it to be an EV so it was something at least relatively unique again, but their CEO Akio Toyoda isn't biting.

Haven't heard a peep about them coming for livestock, banning meat, fertilizer, etc. And I live in the major agricultural state.
Radio silence. Crickets. Years ago, midwestern states either outright banned Margarine, or at minimum did not allow it to be sold dyed yellow. They would provide a dye packet for people to mix it up at home.
Something similar would be the modern equivalent in cattle producing states. No fucking fake food allowed.
Radio silence. Crickets. Years ago, midwestern states either outright banned Margarine, or at minimum did not allow it to be sold dyed yellow. They would provide a dye packet for people to mix it up at home.
Something similar would be the modern equivalent in cattle producing states. No fucking fake food allowed.

Dessert of the day for the kids...
I feel like the 1980s have returned. Since I'm waiting on my Jello pudding packs from Target, I went ahead and dug out the Jello packs that I had planned to use for a Clue-based murder mystery party that got canceled in December b/c of a medical emergency. So, cherry Jello with whipped cream for the kids, it is. Looking at the ingredients, if you can get past the dyes, Jello is actually a pretty damn straight forward product. Sugar (not corn syrup) is ingredient #1. I'm betting they haven't changed the formula for this for a long time...

I was reading an article about the new Prius, and was surprised at how much sales for the model had plummeted. They used to sell 200,000+ in the States, and last year they sold less than 35,000. Even for the new one, a mere 35,000 is the sales target.
You can get a version of the Prius hybrid system in nearly everything Toyota makes now, so it didn't have a lot of a purpose by itself. The media was calling for it to be an EV so it was something at least relatively unique again, but their CEO Akio Toyoda isn't biting.

Where is this? I was in our local ShopRite this morning and there were no empty shelves. Even apple cinnamon rice cakes were in stock, something I buy every week. Didn't check the 1% milk (I buy the 2%), but even the store brand half and half shelves were full, as was the egg display, over 5 bucks however.

ShopRite is the largest supermarket chain (Wakefern with over 300 Supermarkets) in the NE with the buying power. I guess they can pretty "twist some arms" so their warehouses are stocked. They own their own trucking fleet as well.

Corn only is not particularly a good feed for chickens--you need some sort of protein in it--bugs/worms for example but not always in season, soybean meal, (can't remember whether cottonseed meal is suitable or not), fish meal, or some other animal byproduct, and a source of calcium for the shells.

Corn only is not particularly a good feed for chickens--you need some sort of protein in it--bugs/worms for example but not always in season, soybean meal, (can't remember whether cottonseed meal is suitable or not), fish meal, or some other animal byproduct, and a source of calcium for the shells.

I've been reading a fair amount of regional Fed bank stuff, though nothing from Minneapolis - so I'll add them to the list. Philly took on the BLS employment numbers, and St. Louis took on GDP. I'll check that out. But I still think the fiscal stuff remains chicken little stuff, we've been screaming on it since I was a boy - and always have been wrong.
