From their tourism package,
"Majestic Slovakia -- More than Whores and Human Hunts"

Kittens like going for a ride in a car, too.

As do puppies, of course.

I don't know what's going on but I'm very excited!

When your cat disrespects you.

Thirsty dog.

Self-rolling corgi.

Siberian flying squirrels. Super cute, but no flying?

Okay, here's one flying. Also cute!

siberianflyingsquirrel.jpg

That's from BBC Earth. The credit said "#EarthCapture by Bonny Animal."

The related, and also cute, sugar glider.

Sound on for both of the next two.

11 Evening, Horde...How goes it?

Had a blast from my past show up in my office today. I went for a walk and when I came back my old college roommate was sitting in a guest chair at my desk. Turns out he now works at the same institution where I work--and where we both went to school.

And we still get along just fine. Always good to meet up with an old, dear friend.

39 We often took our Yorkie/Chihuahua mixed dog, Tralfaz, and our one eyed cat, Baby, on trips to Montana to visit my parents and help baby brother with their care.

Those animals would fight to sit on the consol/jockey box between the fetching Mrs Beartooth and I for the 1,000 miles to Montana and 1,000 miles back to Oregon.

They were quite devious in how they tricked each other off the consol.

This morning before you posted this I was googling a direct error and got zero results. When I took the quotes away all the results including many with the exact error appeared. Not good. Really not good at all. We are being transported to hell.

A graduated income tax punishes another. A property tax punishes another. These are all workable to the extent they maintain a "good" amount of currency in the system.

The current regime is moronic and purely punitive since it creates no "good" amount of currency. The opposite.

233 182 I saw Stephen Stills and his band in the mid 90s. They were one of the opening acts for The Allman Brothers. I don't recall much about them. Tad Benoit was on that bill to and he was impressive. The Allman Brothers were, of course, great. Put on a hell of a show. It was some music festival near Tampa. Hillsborough County fairgrounds I think. I did see CSN at some point and they were pretty good (at the NYY spring ball complex in Tampa)
=========
I saw CSN (no Y) at River Bend in Cincinnati back in '92. Young was touring by himself, but the trio had enough backup musicians to not care. I went with Dad, who knew I was a big fan of the group and got a couple of tickets. It was a good show, the guys sounded great, Stills jammed out on a couple of numbers. The highlight of the show for me was Stills doing a song based on Rodney King case (topical!) and still making a good song of it. Then he went straight into "For What It's Worth" and shredded a solo in the middle of it. Runner up was Crosby and Nash doing "To the Last Whale/Wind on the Water" and putting all the feels into it.

234 Nah. A flat tax is punitive on some group. It hurts them more than another. Think it through. Who is it?

Except for the part where 10% of your earnings is 10%. It doesn't matter if L'aNeesahqua draws $54,000 watching TV in a sum total of welfare or Scott earns $110,000 working 65 hour weeks for 52 weeks of the year. L'aNeesahqua can take a $5400 reduction, clearly spelled out why and what so that someone else can read it to her so she can still not understand it, and Scott can pay his $11K.

10% from everyone is the absolute definition of equality.

And like I said, someone can keep their 10% under $X/year if they choose. All they have to do is give up their vote.

I've given a little bit of thought to this, and wanted to hear from the Horde about it.

Around the time of Jesus' birth, there was no income tax. There was a head tax - a fixed per-head tax on all Roman subjects, which was why Joseph had to go to Bethlehem. It went away, of course, but why not bring it back? $1,000 per person living in the USA. With 330 million people, you'd raise $330 billion. $10,000 per person gets you 10x of that. No corporate tax, no consumption tax - that's it.

Can this be adjusted with a sliding scale based on income? Perhaps. This would certainly incentivize the government to find everyone living in the country. Need to think this through more, but is the concept viable?

Per capita tax. And that's not quite accurate regarding the Romans, they used tax farming which is why tax collectors were hated.

The US relied on per capita taxes and tariffs and transitioned to income taxes in the 20th century.

The main difficulty with per capita taxes is in raising large amounts of revenue. Taxes akin to sales taxes or payroll taxes are much more effective at that. People spend as they take in income, so large tax bills are very burdensome.

Taxation or inflation are both methods to pay, taxation is very much preferred from the perspective of a stable and functioning economy.

There are two way (actually one, but they act differently) ways that money is created in our money system.

The first is through loans: the banks don't have money on hand to give you it when you take out a loan, it credits you with the money and then tells the FED that is the amount of credit they need. The FED credits the bank that amount out of thin air, and what the rate is for paying it back. You pay it back, plus the interest, plus the intrest the bank wants for both processing, and your risk of not making the loan.
You are creating the wealth by working for thirty years to pay off the loan, and the loan rate is modified by what the FED wants to do to keep inflation down, and what your probablility of repayment is,

The second is Congress going into deficit spending that the FED needs to cover with bonds that they then sell. It is created by debt, but Congress doesn;t actually pay it back, it just pretends the increase in wealth will be worth the inflation.

??? The goods and services come from the economy, paid for either by taxation or printing currency (which is effectively akin to a tax). The act of the government paying for a good or service is a much a price signal as any other purchaser.

Inability to raise revenue has lead to enough currency collapses that the relation is well established.

I disagree. I just disagree. Despite the overwhelming amount of ppl who assume it is so.

Revenue is unrelated conceptually to expenditure. Hyper-inflation is caused by industrial collapse and an inability to remove currency from curculation. See Zimbabwe and Confederate States of America and post-Weimar GER.
