Merrick Garland: I'm Letting Biden's Hand-Picked Personal Praetorian Guard Collect The Evidence Against Him Because I Don't Want To "Complicate" the Investigation Or Something

Per the Wall Street Journal, Merrick Garland's excuse as to why he sent an armed team of FBI agents to search and confiscate Trump's documents but is letting Biden's lawyers -- most of whom don't even have security clearances -- conduct the searches themselves is because... he doesn't want to "complicate the later stages of the investigation."

Mr. Trump's supporters have accused the Justice Department of a double standard in treatment; Mr. Biden's supporters have pointed to the president's legal team's cooperation and swift moves to inform the Justice Department of the documents' discovery as a key difference...

President Biden's legal team has cooperated with Justice Department investigators, helping it avoid more aggressive actions by law enforcement thus far....

One reason not to involve the FBI at an early stage: That way the Justice Department would preserve the ability to take a tougher line, including executing a future search warrant, if negotiations ever turned hostile, current and former law-enforcement officials said.

Oh, they're not getting a search warrant now so they can get one latter if they have to. Because the law is that You Can Only Get One Search Warrant.

Wait, that's not the law at all. You can get as many search warrants as you need.

So this is a lie.

...

Yet the Biden team's bumpy rollout of its discoveries--it only confirmed the document discoveries after news reports and has offered few new details--complicates its attempt to draw a hard distinction between Mr. Biden's actions and those of Mr. Trump, said John Fishwick, who served as the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Virginia during the Obama administration.

"He is the sitting president, there's no reason for him to hold back anything about this," Mr. Fishwick said. "It makes it harder to say it's apples and oranges, and it undercuts the argument that you were different."

So Merrick Garland doesn't want to "complicate" the investigation by... involving his own law enforcement agents of the FBI.

Complicate it? How? By protecting the chain of custody, as David Strom of Hot Air suggested?

By insuring that none of Biden's more "helpful" cronies doesn't decide to reduce the number of classified documents he's discovered to be in possession of and simply destroy the the evidence? Maybe one of these lawyers comes across a code-word clearance document about Ukraine energy mentioning Burisma and thinks, "No way I'm turning this in," and slips it into his sock, Sandy Burger style.

Nah, we wouldn't want FBI agents to prevent that kind of thing. That would "complicate" the whitewash Merrick is planning.

Let's just trust Biden's hand-picked Praetorian to do the evidence-collection for law enforcement agents who are, theoretically, making the decision whether or not to prosecute him, based partly upon the expansiveness of the evidence discovered.

I've read that at least five years are needed to get a movie greenlit, etc, production, etc, actors attached, etc, shot, edited, before the movie appears on screen.

If true, that means at best five years of putrid shit must get pushed out of the Hollywood Colon, before-

Yeah, that's true, and it sucks that it's selectively applied.

But it shouldn't be true to begin with. We have a FISA judge (Contreras) that rubber-stamped a wiretap on a major party nominee because Strzok and Page said it was cool, and no more than that.

Those courts are supposed to have the highest standards, blah blah blah, because of the secrecy. But they crossed the Rubicon on the word of a lunatic and his horsebride who mentioned at a dinner party that they think Trump's yucky.

If this is the rule there... then ask - did the fish rot from the head, or the other way around? I'd wager that top appointees like Contreras have a long career of issuing shady warrants on request, going all the way back to their first day on a local bench.

Thus the DOJ and FBI are now uncontrollable by a president…. Especially one they don’t like

I reread it recently, and it's disturbing how much I kept NODDING and agreeing with his arguments. He's not wrong: the elites are corrupt, they misuse the dogs of the government or police to attack civilians, and they all are rabid and need to be put down.

Of course, the way he goes about trying to put down the rabid elites and the government is atrocious, and has to be stopped. I'm not saying I agree with his morality or his methods. I'm saying I understand. The creepiest villain is one that you feel you could turn into, if life broke bad for you in just the same way.

https://tinyurl.com/2fe9f7tt

It's a 1982 interview with Norman Dodd, chief investigator for the congressional Reece Committee of the early 1950s to investigate tax exempt organizations for subversive activities. Guess what was a big topic? Go ahead. Guess. Hint: It involves Joe Biden's favorite sport, and why Epstein didn't kill himself.

If you haven't seen it, watch a bit of that video. What we're seeing currently has been in the works for decades. A quote from Dodd near the end of the interview on why these American power brokers support communism: "to them Communism represents a means of developing what we call a monopoly, that is the organization we’ll say of large scale industry into an administrable unit. … They will be the beneficiaries of it."

Everything we're watching today is the culmination of 100+ years of work by Our Betters. Gates, Soros, Schwab, etc. are just the current baton carriers.

The minutes from a Carnagie meeting during WWI cautioning Wilson that the war shouldn't end too quickly is especially enlightening.

From what we've been told for some unknown reason Biden hired lawyers to clear out his office at the Biden Penn Center, they found classified documents and alerted the National Archives. And then someone the media found out. Then Biden had lawyers go through his houses and found more.

Since we all know how Democrats operate, outside the law and bureaucracy plays along, how did this ever become public and why? They could have said nothing or just quietly returned the docs without anyone being the wiser.

Specifically, that Trump & team had been in contact/cooperation/disputes with DOJ and NARA prior to the raid in FL? Which alone made the whole thing indefensible? (not to mention outrageous, a true norm being trashed, yet again, to harass Trump)

Hadn't the FBI itself visited the FL site, suggested storage changes, etc? In other words, a completely routine cooperative process?

And this leaves aside the basic issue, that Trump could declassify anything he chose, rendering it all moot from the start (in his, not Biden's, case).

293 From what we've been told for some unknown reason Biden hired lawyers to clear out his office at the Biden Penn Center, they found classified documents and alerted the National Archives
-------

The key part is the story is they alerted the National Archives with out telling Joe first. He found out afterwards.

Anyone who can swallow that pill can make a run for Kamala's money.

Again, forget legal wrangling... why hasn't the National Archives said "we know what other related documents are missing"? Has anyone asked them? Is the media interested in what related documents are missing? Is there any outside pressure ratcheting?

Or does this all feel very much like business as usual with a side of "gee this doesn't look too good for our guy but what are you gonna do, he's cooperating beautifully and it was all a big misunderstanding, unlike what the other guy did."?

One of the major reasons is the polar opposite of why Jeff Flake became so unpopular in AZ. When people would call Flake's offices to get help on things like Medicare issues, Flake's people would essentially tell them to fuck off. Graham's office works that stuff and gets stuff fixed.

"I can't vote against Graham. He fixed my momma's Medicare problem in 2014."

Kind of a forerunner of many such situations where the electorate tried to maintain guardrails and sanity, and was simply brushed aside by the collapsed judiciary and useless political class. Of course overall they've taken it lying down, as there has still been the ability to take back control. But a working majority (if even de facto) of the populace just doesn't care, or agrees, with the vandalism of the society and system.

451 I'm pretty convinced the only reason Biden's lawyers were going through all the papers was to sanitize Hunter-Joe influence peddling docs. While they were there, this other thing came up and they decided not to bet their law licenses on hiding classified docs.

What the GOP should do now is serve Subpoenas or preferably get judicial restraining orders prohibiting any destruction of docs by JFB until they get to the bottom of both the classified docs and Hunter-JFB investigations. A lot of lawyers will bend the rules on interpreting what documents are "responsive" to a request but if a Court gives an order not to destroy docs most won't.

The way to get the Murkcows are investigations piled on more investigations into her personal life, her taxes, her dealings, and so on. But to do so means taking on McConnell as well.

As I said in an earlier thread, essentially a GOP president in order to have any chance is going to have to cross the Rubicon and go scorched earth on the Deep State as well as the Uniparty.

I doubt Trump can do that because that is not his bag. DeSantis, though might. The rest of the GOP potential nominees though give little or no sign that they would do so. Most people are not willing to do a Lincoln or a Cromwell where you burn a lot of the village to save it. History usually damns them.

Got all the goods on a VPs graft machine on a hard drive right next to the videos of being wasted and jacked off by the foot of a prostitute? No problemo, the FBi will hide it for a few years for you.

What matters occasionally is the optics, and that explains the "cooperation" to get the classified docs back to safety.

497 I'm currently reading this post while sitting in Harry Reid Airport in Vegas. The Boss is still at SHOT, working.

This is darkly appropriate, somehow.

498 Watching the caucus and the weak response from the House, excluding the twenty rebels, it was obvious that there was no will to go against McCarthy.

Trump read the cards and played them correctly.

The problem is that it indicates that there are barely ten (about half the resistors) that are honest pols in DC. Siding with the Uniparty really gives Trump no leverage that he did not have if he kept his mouth shut. In essence, the deal with McCarthy does little to advance constitutional governance. Trump is trying to work within the system but when the system as a whole is broken, you get very marginal results.

Why didn't they demand this while Trump, noted arch-capitalist and corporatist, was president?

==========

I just like to ask why all these Big Whatevers didn't take windfall products under Trump and waited under Biden. It's probably because Trump was a tyrant and the Big Whatevers knew that Trump would punish them for such behavior.

The solution is obviously to vote for Trump.

Prop 8 2008 - One man, one woman = marriage. Tossed by a flaming judge.
Posted by: weft cut-loop

Oh, that one was even worse than you think. After seeing what happened to Prop 187, the Prop 8 supporters decided to make it a state constitutional amendment instead of just an Initiative. Tougher to get it on the ballot and passed, but should have been pretty iron-clad once it happened.

Hold my latte and watch this.

Homo activist state judge just flat-out declared a legal amendment to the constitution to be unconstitutional under state law.

507 I doubt it's Trump, but I'm sure Barry and Hillary were both aware that Biden had classified docs in his possession. He's the kind that would tell them because he thought it made him seem important.

Posted by: Ding Ding Ding We Got One!

Likely, when the Obama Regime exited, they did their best to hoover up a lot of documents (originals and no copies) concerning a lot of policy matters, such as the Iranian Nuclear treaty.
I read somewhere the other week that the Biden Junta was worried that Trump had documents pertaining to that Iran Treaty, and he could release them at the appropriate time. And remember, that Presidents DO have exclusive privilege to declassify document, etc. Vice Presidents do not.
My guess it that Obama, Biden and Kerry all have classified documents about the Iran nuclear treaty (that would show treason) that they gathered up before leaving office in early 2017, and Trump (his staff) may have found things that they missed. I would like to have the Eff-Bee-Eye search Mr. Kerry's residence for classified documents. I have a feeling something would be found.

511 Right, if any document in the future turns out to be missing, Biden can just blame his lawyers (and not one specific lawyer, either).
Oops! Who knows what happened to those documents! It's old news, anyway Now, let's focus on the true culprit, Trump.

Posted by: PG at January 18, 2023 02:18 PM (84jHt)

512 Biden will never be charged with anything, so there's no need to really worry about the specifics past the point of using the classified doc mishandling to pressure him to resign.

On the other hand, I'd be surprised if Biden's lawyers have not already destroyed evidence here. The only reason why the DoJ is standing around with its hands in its pockets, looking down at the floor, is because they know what's going on and why: those docs are in Biden's unauthorized possession because they are incriminating, and Biden and his lawyers know it.

There is no other realistic explanation for why people who have no clearance and no need to know are being permitted to rifle through classified materials.
