The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition
The country's birth rate was 6.77 per thousand, below the death rate of 7.37 per thousand. For comparison, in the United States in 2020 the birth rate was 10.7 per thousand and the death rate was 10 per thousand, according to data from the World Bank. China, the world's second-largest economy, has an aging population and has been struggling with low birth rates for several years now. The last time the population fell was in 1961, during Mao Zedong’s Great Leap Forward, according to CNN.
By the way, does anyone believe that Chinese death rate figure? I sure don't.
The upshot of this is that the number of people in the working population (20-64) compared to the number of people in the retired (65 and older) population is going to fall precipitously. In the next 30 years that ratio will fall from more than five to just 2.1 workers per retiree. This goes a long way toward explaining China's aggressiveness in expanding pretty much everywhere. They need a base of younger workers to support their rapidly aging population, and they have chosen to expand outside their borders instead of the even more insane plan by our elites to invite those workers into our country. But China's demographic crisis is worse than ours, and on par with Europe's, which is beyond the point of no return. But how are they going to support their aging population within their borders? They need people to staff hospitals and garbage trucks and farms and power plants and all of the necessities of life, but they simply will not have the people. They will have to import labor, or as the CCP calls them: slaves. The importation of foreign labor is not a new thing...just look at some of the richer Arab world, Europe, and of course the United States. But the amount of labor inputs needed to support an aged Chinese population will dwarf even the numbers pouring across our southern border. How will China deal with tens of millions of foreigners in their midst? They are famously xenophobic, and openly contemptuous of foreigners, even highly educated professionals. The idea of a sea of uneducated laborers flooding the cities of China makes for an interesting time... I said STOP LAUGHING!

They sort of have to. There has been debate within the CCP about this topic. There is a desire to bring in hordes of migrant labor from outside the country to feed into their factory system because they could offer lower wages if they do it that way. They also have no qualms over holding those migrants as indentured servants or even outright slaves in big camps so they don't influence the wider culture or politics.
A major reason they don't is language. Chinese is *hard* and migrants struggle to communicate. There are others, but the language barrier is a very real problem when it comes to importing loads of people to shove into industrial slavery.

According to the trustee annual report from the Social Security Administration the system works here with 2.2 workers for every retiree. Until it doesn't sometime in the next 10 to 15 years.

The problem with the expense of it all is that the Chinese will not be as rich. They got rich thanks to a combination of Western perfidy (Clinton and Bush 43 in particular) and what they call the "demographic dividend" - the massive swell of working-age labor that occurred after the Cultural Revolution. We had one of these ourselves, albeit smaller (the Baby Boom). Africa is in the early stages of one, and India will have the biggest "demographic dividend" in history. It takes more than just working-age people to get rich, but it is damned near impossible to get rich (or stay rich) without working-age people.

They're stupid. The demographic problems China is facing now were obvious by 1990. The one-child policy was an absolute disaster, as it short-circuited the tail end of the "demographic dividend" before birth rates started falling naturally anyway, which always happens following industrialization and increasing personal wealth. They lost the last big increase because they killed it off. And that was obvious fairly early on.
Not to mention the cultural damage the one-child policy did. They have had a "two-child" policy for several years, and it is now "three-child" policy, and Party members are being essentially ordered to have children, and it isn't working. It was too little and far, far too late. They spent decades brainwashing people into thinking kids are bad, and more kids are worse. The generational wealth effects of the policy, especially in real estate, are huge and not conducive to a reversal.
China's demographically fucked.

It might not be as much of a problem as you think. Famously, Himmler and Hitler said that they would only teach the Slavs enough German to read road signs and to obey orders. I suspect that, were the Chinese to import slaves, they'd keep them penned up, bus them to wherever they need to be and only teach them enough language to understand basic orders.

The household registration system. When you have a kid, you have to register it with government. If you're very, very rich you could probably get away with hiding it, but not otherwise. The kid will need medical care or schooling or something eventually. In the villages, where people know each other, it's even harder to hide.
So if you have an illegal kid, the state knows about it and would fine you brutally as punishment. If they caught wind of it before birth (often would), forced abortion becomes the answer.

The data on J&J is much more suspect than the mRNA shot data. In particular, the clots on J&J were almost exclusively women who were on the Pill, which is known to cause clots even more than mRNA.

Also, it's widely agreed that China inflates it's birth numbers. The sole exception *might* have been the year when the One Child Policy was done away with, and there was a one-time bump in births (that only lasted for that one year). So it's possible, and even likely, that this is not actually the first year that the population has decreased. It's just the first year when it's officially done so.

That is part of the problem but I don't think it is really the main reason.
If you are a woman what does society tell you? Go through college. Get an office job. Work hard. Maybe start looking for a husband around 30. Get married at 32. How many kids does that give you time for?
If we weren't a stupid society we'd tell women to look for a husband in their early 20s. We live long enough there is plenty of time to go to college/build out a career after having the number of kids you want. But almost no one is telling them that.

Yes, which is a serious problem. Same in various other countries.
The norm used to be - and I was lucky enough to live through the tail end of it - that things next year will be better than things this year. There are always setbacks - recessions, wars, etc. - but on average, things kept getting better. That era is over. The best most people can hope for now is to hold on and have it not be worse.

Yeah, Americans are bitching (and rightfully so), but it's not like people are welded into their apartment buildings, or denied local travel due to COVID status.
The US will continue its slow, managed decline with a mostly pacified populace...China is on the verge of major societal issues.

And 2020 election, if it was stolen, was stolen in 5-7 states. Not by the feds. And in none of those states were there any consequences - in fact all of them, I think, have rejected any real reforms or serious investigations, and a few have doubled down by rejecting "insurrection-ish" figures or even literally making their low-integrity systems *worse* (MI at least).
PA MI WI AZ GA all had 2020 to some extent on the ballot this past November, and I don't think any outcomes showed any "waking up".

It isn't as bad as it's often made out to be. One reason for this is that the rural parts of China were allowed to have another kid if the first was a boy. The second reason is probably due to both corruption (local officials bribed to look the other way when mom to be gets pregnant again), and families who "adopted" the infant daughter of "distant relatives who just died and who no one in this community has ever heard of before".

There are a lot of problems throughout the industrial supply chain. Taiwan can make the chips, but then what? How do those chips make their way into parts? Often, that happens across the Strait on the mainland. Different auto companies have different levels of dependence on Red China for parts, but it's a serious problem given their production and shipping disruptions. Then there are also sanctions. High-end chips have a hard time making it into China because embargoes (ours, primarily), which disrupts even more stuff downstream.
It is going to take *years* to shake out, across the industrial supply and input chain.

You misunderstand. I'm not saying the microprocessor shortage isn't real. It's as real - and similar to - 3% or so of the U.S. chicken egg-laying flock being used as an excuse for eggs being $5+/dozen. Does the problem exist? Yes. Is it why things are now the way they are? No.
I'm saying it's being used as an excuse for the automotive manufacturers and dealerships to flip the relationship that has existed between dealers and customers for the last 100 years. No need staff your dealership to sell 40 cars a day or carry insurance for $5M in inventory if you just keep six cars on hand that you know you'll sell for 3% over MSRP with no haggling within a week of getting them. Lather, rinse, repeat.

This is where I find Jeff Snider really interesting. He argues it is a chronic shortage of currency specifically USD that is causing the slowdown in Int'l Trade. This all began prior to 2008 and nothing has made a dent in the issue.

Debatable - perhaps the fixation on the almighty dollar is driving the demography. Also, the failing of a willingness support our own country's mythos. As well as an abandonment of faith in something beyond ourselves. Israel is a pointed example of a society which has seen this issue - perhaps refocused after a madman tried to wipe their entire race out - and is bucking the demographic trends. Nothing distracts from domestic problems like a foreign enemy.
Besides, Xi & Co. are, every day, seeing the golden window of opportunity slip away as the end of Joe's reign draws nearer. This kind of opportunity to start and win a war against us, given what we have done to ourselves the past couple of years, is something that only happens once in two or three generations.

Higher education takes 4 years, grad school takes longer, and nowadays nobody expects a college girl to find a man and marry him during their college years, much less start having babies. There are tons of abortion clinics near campuses.
