Volcanic eruption seen from International Space Station

Self-taught piano prodigy Sugar Chile Robinson, who is said to have been born already knowing how to play piano, in 1951. He's 13 here. He looks younger. He had already played for president Harry S. Truman in 1946, at age eight. He stopped recoding by the next year to go to school.

Little dog is up to mischief.

Little boy practicing headbutting with baby goat. (The boy is wearing a bike helmet.)

Goat elocution lessons.

Goat argument clinic.

Dog is a Buddhist, at least between mealtimes.

Wife attempts to hit husband with some kind of paintball gun but learns that shooting scenarios are a man's world.

Little muncher.

Magic cats!

Doggy dribbler.

Excuse me, I think I'm at the wrong mixer.

This little dog is too cute.

46 There are fascinating tales of children who play piano very well at an early age. A recent one is a family with a child who found a keyboard in the basement and just started playing expertly at age 7. A local piano tuner donated a baby grand and said he'd come by once a month to tune it, for free. It was a feel good story on CBS Sunday show recently. The child has some autism, and genuine piano ability. I've tried to learn piano most of my life, still can't play worth a darn. Makes me rethink if reincarnation is a real thing, plus the old innate talent vs. learned debate.

67 Probably too lazy to go back and check, but pretty sure in the first episode of The Pacific, scene where Chesty Puller is briefing the Marine NCOs on the war, that the map behind him shows a swastika covering/pointing to Iceland. Which of course makes no sense. In fact it was Marines who were deployed there prior to Pearl Harbor, when the US was leaning very hard - in a neutral fashion, of course - into the effort to help the UK.

And a series that went to the trouble to have Riesing SMGs at Guadalcanal seems unlikely to have made such a gross error.

My favorite story I think, his unit was getting the snot kicked out of it in Korea. He notices this big Navy ship steaming by not doing anything. He gets in a fucking rowboat and sails out to the ship and starts directing naval gunfire on enemy positions. He wasn't real big on bureacratic nonsense, he knew how to get stuff done.

Tiger beetles do that. They wait on the path until you get close, then they fly a few yards down, land facing you, and wait for the next close approach.

124 From that link with Dodd, the 1950s congressional investigator:

"We are now at the year 1908 which was the year that the Carnegie began operations... Then finally they answer that question as follows: We must control the State Department.

Then time passes and we are eventually in a war which would have been World War I and at that time they record on their minutes a shocking report in which they dispatch to President Wilson a telegram cautioning him to see that the war does not end too quickly.

-------

This is a glimpse into the beginning of American communism. A quote from Dodd near the end of the interview on why these American power brokers support communism:

"to them Communism represents a means of developing what we call a monopoly, that is the organization we’ll say of large scale industry into an administrable unit. … They will be the beneficiaries of it."

I never bought the mafia part. I always assume if someone in the mafia is bragging about it, it ain't true.

As for LBJ, there is one theory that Secret Service was either in on it, or the guy in the car behind the limo, the one who picked up the AF15 and started waving it around accidentally discharged his weapon.

And ever since, LBJ constantly ragged on the SS, calling the trigger happy idiots, and such things, and never wanted any of them armed anywhere near him.

181 Heh. Kennedy death and CIA. Mentioned here too many times, I had a friend whose hobby was the JFK assassination. He wasn't a conspiracy nut, just fascinated by all the theories. I put together an Oswald rifle for him, even getting an Ordnance Optics (cheap Jap) scope and a sling from an AF shoulder holster strap. He asked me once about the grassy knoll, and what kind of gun would have been used. I said, at the time, a Remington XP100, concealed in an umbrella. A few years later one of the many who confessed (nuts) said he had an XP100 concealed in an umbrella.

192 In all seriousness, I've been gaining a renewed interest in 1980s dystopia. It's got a common thread: technological regression. Our ability to affect each other outpaced our ability to not be self destructive dicks, Rome 2.0 falls, and many years/centuries/millennia of nice things become prized and powerful relics of a better past.

Yep. We have Democrat representatives openly and unashamedly stating that black people are genetically unable to handle criticism and skepticism and wanting to pass laws preventing them from exposure to notions and beliefs that they are incapable of understanding because of their skin color.

And they're perfectly comfortable doing it.
