Neuschwannstein Castle

Sea of clouds.

Snoring mom keeps up poor baby.

Baby comes in second place to mommy's gossip.

Game of Thrones theme, Spaghetti Western style.

Knock knock -- landshark.

Sound on: sleepy bat.

I don't care, it just makes her hotter.

This horse knows what's up.

Think your car is built ram tough? This ram isn't so sure.

You can't just show your butt to a bull and think there are going to be no consequences.

"When you mess with a chicken, you mess with the ram." -- Confucius or something

Did I do that?

This is me working out my Christmas frustrations.

Stick to the end. There are a lot of boys here who want to be grounded and/or do not want to ever have sex again.

(Worth it!)

19 In fun movie news I watched a movie today called "GRABBERS". It's not recent or anything, about a decade old.

I enjoyed it. It's Tremors but in Ireland. Whole different crew, director and everything so not a sequel or connected to Tremors at all. But seriously if you liked Tremors you will like GRABBERS.

A lighthearted scify monster movie with a bit of laughs and some heart. I recommend it.

23 This picture was taken from a ridge that goes past the castle. I've been on that ridge in snowy weather, and the castle is stunning.

Note: There were no guardrails, the path was icy, and we had to avoid a mountain goat that turned territorial near the end of the ridge. We turned back.

It was actually built in the 1870s-80s, so there are built-in telephone connections, which I always found humorous.

A do-over for a statewide seat is much rarer, though.

I'm not sure what the reaction will be if (and I must stress "if") the judge does in fact invalidate the election. I mean, the Uniparty and its media allies have spent the past two years claiming that there is no such thing as electoral fraud and that anyone who says otherwise is nuts, and they've already moved on from the AZ election. What do they do when it suddenly gets taken away from them?

113 Dr T, good points.

I'm only skimming general points from the trial, but wow.

In any reasonable country resembling an America I've heard of, just what I've seen so far is more than enough to invalidate the election outcome.

In 2020 perhaps the most outlandish and histrionic stuff actually was in Clark County, NV, which gets little attention. Though the shenanigans in Wayne County, MI and Atlanta, and of course Phila, were pretty dramatic too. Of course the founders created a political solution to this sort of thing in presidentials - state legislatures and then Congress with final say. But not used since the 19th century, unknown to most - and no safeguard at all when the character of the political class is as vacuous as it is today.

I spun out entering a highway when I was a teen in my 66 Mustang. Cop saw me from the other side of the median and made a u-turn. Asked me what would happen if I brought home a ticket. "I'm sure dad has a shotgun shell with my name on it."

He told me to be more careful, but if he WERE to write me up, it would've been for 2 violations, not just one.

I thanked him for being gracious, did my u-turn and got the rock outta dodge.

253 Neuschwanstein Castle...Finally a picture on the Cafe where I can say, "I've been there!"

It's a magnificent castle, though it's not really designed for warfare. It's more of a palace than a castle...
Posted by: "Perfessor" Squirrel at December 22, 2022 08:04 PM (BpYfr)

----------

It was not a castle at all.

By the nineteenth century actual castles had long been made obsolete. Siege cannon first deployed in the 1400s made sure of that.

In the Age of Romanticism, faux castle architecture became a faddish thing. Neuschwanstein, which was the palace of crazy Ludwig II of Bavaria, was built of steel and concrete like a modern high-rise. It is no more an authentic castle than the one is that was built in Anaheim by Disney in the 1950s.

276 Night SRE! I gotta check them out. I have a weird affinity for all things Finnish, and I don't know why.

For legit cold weather, I always fall back to my great-uncle's Navy issue peacoat he wore all through Korea, which he gave to my Dad, and which my Dad gave to me when I was in high school. I've sewn the lining back in more times than I can count, and I've sewn every button back on more than once. I actually lost one of the original buttons, but tracked down a direct replacement bakelite button at an Army-Navy shop across the state to put back on.

For worse-than-legit cold weather, I got my surplus Stasi Officer's coat with shitty pot-metal buttons (which I couldn't give less of a crap about finding originals for) but man, oh man is that coat warm. Wearing it makes me imagine some poor schleprock Ossie officer standing around on guard trying not to die in the German winter while he has nothing else to do but hope his family doesn't rat him out for a made up thought-crime just to get his life insurance.

Was never really cold. Best thing - besides the air-gap boots - were the big mittens with rabbit fur on the back of the hand. Hands were toasty, and you could put the fur up to your face and warm up your nose/mouth. This was before polypropylene underwear or other good synthetic stuff. Cotton long johns, wool pants and shirt, wool socks, arctic parka, and the stuff already mentioned.

3-piece sleeping bags. Nice and warm. There'd be icicles above your face on the tent in the morning. First guy out of the bag to turn on the small gas heating lamps was the one who got cold.

317 Cicero, nice. I'll be eating at a relative's about 1 mile from your boat. Dreading possible traffic issues. I've been making the Christmas Day trip up there and back for 30 years. Only in the last 5 or so was traffic ever a consideration. And some family coming down the 5 for T-giving down here faced huge delays.

Huh. I guess that's not what's normally supposed to happen.
