Do you mean EBITDA earnings growth? Earnings before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization. It's supposed to be good for evaluating a business from a more operational perspective (the debt load screwing the business doesn't necessarily indicate ordinary business operations have issues). The most questionable part tends to be removing depreciation, which if regular capital spend is needed to replace it, is a perfectly valid if fuzzy operational expense.

The problem with USD being fiat and the zero interest rates is that there was no market signals at all. The markets are all invested, commoditized and resold. Everything is leveraged because you make more money out of buying things on loans that you do holding or making things.
The rate hikes are going to affect that, but at the moment there is some hysteresis in the system, with money on loan that has to go somewhere. When that momentum runs out, then all the loans come due, the system will lose a lot of value.
That is why there is such a screaming going on about rate hikes.

But inflation today is not caused by high wages since we have flooded the country with illegals for services, and we buy manufactured goods from overseas. The economy is not overheated, it is dying. Raise rates to kill it quicker. Lower rates and we live in the bubble a bit longer but the problem gets bigger.

OK, there is one classical economic solution to a debased currency and it never ends well.

It's moving on one rule right now: 1. The big investment firms know they can't pull their money from the market, or the whole thing collapses (and with it, their fat paychecks).

If individuals were investing their own money, the stock market would have fallen steadily for the last couple of years. There's no reason to invest in most companies on the exchange.

High wages is one cause - the "demand-pull" inflation, and interest rate raises are not limited to that. It helps in the other scenario (supply-side), too, by enforcing tighter credit and driving a fair amount of bankruptcy, which has the effect of reducing the money supply.

But bankruptcy isn't allowed anymore and the government is spending like a bunch of drunken sailors on borrowed money that the Fed is monetizing to try to keep the federal fiscal environment from detonating. They can raise rates but without those rates curtailing the emission of new credit - and the fedgov is a huge emitter - it won't help as much as it needs to. Rates also still aren't high enough and the Fed isn't selling it's balance sheet with anything like the enthusiasm it needs to.

Every major city in the country is always doing mass voter fraud for the Dems and has for at least three generations. I've lived in one, and there was no crowd of dupes going to vote on election day, just me. When I lived in Chicago I never saw a second person in an inner city district voting (this was pre mail in). Look at the Federal Reserve Seal on a piece of old currency (like a $1 bill) and it will tell you *which* Fed issued the note. On a piece of new currency, it just says "Federal Reserve System." In essence, they took the mint mark off when they did the redesigns a while back in the aughts.

I don't what that means if anything, but it's a subtle change that is probably nefarious.

Yeah direct spending stimulus adds to velocity of money pretty quickly. We had increasing money supply with declining velocity of money for a long time as the extra dollars in the system weren't doing anything.

It mostly justifies taking stuff now to pay back later, and explains why paying back later is actually bad for the economy. It also says that efficiency is the most important thing unless there is something the government wants to happen, then that is the most important thing.

There are better schools than General Theory, but they all boil down to STEALING FROM YOUR ECONOMY MEANS SCREWING UP YOUR ECONOMY and that makes wannabe dictators sad.

But the helicopter-drops were *insane.* That is suddenly now an open loop and the money sloshes around everywhere. Add in to that a high rate of business failure, increased transportation costs, increased energy costs, supply chain disruption and industrial dislocation in the Far East and everything hits the fan all at once.

Ask yourself this - can you think of *any* issue in which New York and California would agree with Texas and Florida? (just to use obvious examples) Only two possible outcomes - nothing at all, most likely, or 2 or more draft new constitutions, with the Fed Gov collapsing and 2 or more successor states being created from the remains.

Businesses kind of operate in a large loop with each other. Bankruptcy doesn't necessarily shut down a business (if it's due to debt load rather than the enterprise being nonviable) but does cause things to seize up as legal proceedings are worked through.

And so dumping a bunch of money on them during bad economic times usually doesn't show immediate inflationary impact, though it can keep businesses with poor models or capital structure afloat longer. It's not uncommon for businesses to set on huge amounts of cash.

Who are the PtB making all the money then? Because a lot of the big guys don't do great oftentimes. And the guys who were doing great before usually don't do well in the next period.

There are probably some people trading on inside information at any given time, but in general and with most of the larger players they perform poorly enough to be convincing.

That Fe'ral government NEVER should have done what they did, destroying the economy then injecting trillions into a give-away sweepstakes that only crippled supply lines and increased inflation and debt.

BUT, if they were going to underwrite business stoppage, it should have been through backstopping business insurers since many policies have interruption of operations coverage. The paperwork and the company evaluations are already performed by the underwriter so the possibility of fraud is dramatically reduced.

The point was to create huge opportunities for fraud and that is why they did what they did.

They still use it: El Cronista, the main economic paper in Buenos Aires lists the current rates for different markets including what an Argentine business can get outside of the country. They used to list the price in Uruguay, for example
