Is it cute that she has a pony or do we all just hate her guts?

You made two mistakes -- you took my favorite stick, and you let me live.

Guys I had this exact dream, and you were all there, but you were not you, if you know what I mean.

27 A girl in high school asked me to give her a ride home from choir practice when the roads were all icy. I couldn't actually get to her house and kept sliding backward like that dog. I was going to walk her the rest of the way, like just a half block, but she curtly said no and took off. Turns out she was asked by a friend of hers to get a ride with me to check me out and report back, kind of like a girl reconnaissance mission. Well, she had nothing good to say to her friend about the guy with bad traction.

So, invest in all-weather tires kids.

39 Had to make the grocery store trip today and decided to wear my Christmas hat. It's an old straw boater style hat that my dad got from some a cappella/ barbershop quartet show back in the 1950s. After dad passed, I found the hat, removed the nasty ribbon hat band and scrubbed it clean. Then using Christmas ribbon and fabric created a new hat band, complete with a bow and a big red jingle bell. I got a few compliments on it! And one lady thanked me for walking around singing Christmas carols!
It really isn't hard to lift someone's day.

Yes. One can actually hear the quality of Pavoratti. Alas, the quality of Caruso is dimmed by the terrible quality of the recording of his time.

63 Gonna try a tourtiere (Quebec meat pie) for Christmas Eve, I think (unless indolence or other factors get in the way). Did one, once, years ago, it was surprisingly good/true to what I remember having them up in Quebec. The pie crust is no problem, already have sort of revived that skill. The meat mix inside (it's pretty dry, more like ground meat filling, with distinctive spices) is the issue.

Stuff like that is always tastier when it's 12 degrees out, but it will probably be OK in the 60s if I can get the seasonings right.

65 The car leap car had those olde timey vintagey wooden wheels.

Manufactured by Splinters R Us!

Plus, obviously, the jump geometry resulted in a vertical drop, 100% energy transfer on impact, vs. a much smaller percentage transfer with a higher speed, shallower landing angle onto a downward sloping ramp.

The driver's spine on that one was in GREAT peril, in fact. Impact like that can ram the asshole right through the brain, creating yet another Democrat.

I heard that. Used to do church caroling for the older folks in the congregation back in the day. Sing a bit, get lots of cookies and hot chocolate. Really gets one into the Christmas spirit! These days, yeah...definitely not in my neighborhood. (Unless I could get int a choir that could sing in Spanish. Then we'd be a hit!) Home of two things of interest:

1. Drambuie; and

2. My gggggg-grandfather, one (I shit you not) "Duncan MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod" who was born there around 1725, fought in, was wounded, but escaped The Last Jacobite Rising at the Battle of Culloden of 1746 highlanders. He was subsequently kicked off the island for purportedly stealing sheep, and relocated to the Isle of Eigg where he married and had at least seven children.

103 My daughter had beautiful hair almost down to her knees. But she wasn't into taking care of it and brushing it a million times every night so it was mostly my wife doing that. Sometimes I'd get roped in and it was a source of arguments. When something causes nightly fights with an 8yo maybe it's not a great idea. So she got it cut down to a manageable length. We donated the cut hair to a charity that makes wigs for chemo patients. It was multiple feet of hair so I'm sure they could do something with it.

--------

Wifey had me do the same to her about a decade ago, and she's been cutting it herself ever since (as NO stylist ever accurately follows her instructions).

[I knew a good hair stylist who said she would refuse to cut women's hair short when they asked, because almost inevitably they'd start crying after seeing the result -- so my guess is that this is what's going on.]

115 Well there is a reason that there is a shortage of Chargers out there, despite being such a popular car. They went through a ton of them on that show.

I read somewhere once it was something like a couple hundred. Even if it was 500, they made a few hundred thousand of that body, and when they made the show they were 10-12 years old. The perceived shortage of Chargers is because a) supply exceeds demand and has for a couple decades now b) in the mid to late 70s and into the mid 90s muscle cars had all the status of today's noisy Civic coupe with a black hood. "Collectors" scoffed at anything built after 1948. So most got run into the ground by a succession of broke kid owners.

Yep. Did that with my girl spawn. Very long, straight, and jet black hair was hard to wash in the bath tub and she refused to take showers until she was about 10. Told her that as long as I had to be the one dealing with it, it got cut short. Once she started doing the hair washing she could let it grow. She now has long hair and spends at least 30 minutes after every shower putting in curlers. She rocks an almost 1940s style every day. But Asian hair doesn't hold the curl as well and by the end of the day it's just kinda wavy.

My first husband was tall and skinny. When he was on chemo he got skinnier. And his hair fell out. Not in clumps just a constant shower of hair dropping out. He got tired of it and had his father shave it. Imagine a q- tip. Now cut off one fuzzy end and dip the other end in glue and smooth it down. 179 Yep.

I've watched YT videos by a Janet Stephens about Roman and historical hairstyles where she shows how they did it - one thing is to actually use thread to hold curls and braids in position and you don't have to take them down to go to bed or spray gunk in it. Not sure if it can create curls but I found them interesting even as a guy.

Good luck!

We used to have a mechanic shop that we loved, so much so that even when it became inconvenient to take our cars there, we still did. Honest folk, good service, never upsold or told us we needed stuff we didn't.

Many years back, the original owner sold it to his GM. Good deal, GM was a great guy, standards were maintained.

When it came time for the GM to retire, he had no one to sell to, so he sold it to a chain that buys up local shops. First time we took our car there, check engine light popped on as soon as we were out of the parking lot. Also discovered that they charged us more for a part than if we had bought it from a dealership. Never went back.

Bucovina Shepard Dogs are originally from Rumania in the Carpathian Mountains. Very rare in the US.

She is quite friendly if you are part of her protected herd, like I am. She almost never barks, but it is a very deep basso bark.

Years ago I was walking West on the valley floor road at night when I heard coyotes off in the distance to the north, then coyotes closer to the front, and then coyotes close on the South side near the creek.
Next I hear claws on pavement, getting closer from the East. I got a good grip on my flashlight, turned it on, and spun around. It was Independence running to protect me. The coyote yelps faded away once she was next to me. Good dog!

Came home and screwed some battens to the wall in the hallway to fix the issue of the glued-on faux oak panels popping free. One batten down the middle of each panel, one on each seam. Battens are ripped off 2X6 lumber, so an inch and a half wide, and about 5/16" thick. I stained them with dark walnut wood stain. I think it looks good, and does just enough to hold the panels secure.

333 My inhaler for COPD is $230 a month and it's the generic version, advair, so the pharmacy doesn't accept coupons to discount it.

That's crazy. Generic doesn't seem like it would work like that.

I told him I see the "goodrx" cards at my doctors office and it might be worth a look. At a local grocery store here the Advair is showing $75 (although it might be the wrong one, but the ship to home options were around $250). That's nuts.

Sorry and good luck.

334 I doubt there will be a problem. Ground is pretty warm, and curing cement is exothermic, anyway.

See, I learned something. Plus, I had to look up "exothermic"

335 This song always brings me some peace, and also some deeply cherished memories of my oldest son, when he was just a very small child. He was a gift to me...

And well...tonight my sons took us out to dinner. My oldest is now 28, and my second son is 25, and has two sons of his own now.

336 I've never been to Skye. My mom has hiked there a few times with her hiking group. Apparently the trail around the island is pretty outstanding. Plus, the Scots drink.

337 It hasn't been terribly cold here 40s to 50s although it has been very rainy all day and night. On Friday it will drop into the low 20s still with precipitation. Maybe some snow/ice but I doubt it. It's been about five years since that last snow where we got about an inch. Generally, you only get below 30s here when you have no clouds and clear nights.

338 Press Juan, thanks, I should have mentioned we live in the northern boonies (ND) so that could also play a part in the cost.
If a person/couple can afford drug insurance, it's really a good investment, especially as you age.

341 "Curious how that cement slab will cure in low temps.
Posted by: Huck Follywood at December 20, 2022 10:00 PM (wk72/)

I doubt there will be a problem. Ground is pretty warm, and curing cement is exothermic, anyway."

The exothermic reaction slows WAY down at about 27°F, depending on cement content.

What happens is the the surface exposed to the air almost stops hardening while the subsurface continues to cook due to the exothermic reaction making putting a good finish on the surface pretty much impossible. What constitutes a good finish depends on the purpose and the individual specifications.
Keep the air temp at 34°F + for proper curing.
