The Loudoun County School Superintendent Who Covered Up the Sexual Assault by a Trans Student Has Been Indicted by a Grand Jury, But Only on Three Misdemeanors

It's cobalt blue northern Virginia. This is the most they'll do against one of their own.

The school's public information officer also got indicted for perjury, which is tougher charge.

A special grand jury in Loudoun County has indicted former Loudoun County Public Schools superintendent Scott Ziegler on three misdemeanor charges, a week after issuing a scathing report detailing the school district's misdeeds in responding to a sexual assault.
The office of Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares, who had impaneled the grand jury, announced Monday that a Loudoun county judge had ordered three misdemeanor indictments against Ziegler to be unsealed. Loudoun County Public Schools Public Information Officer Wayde Byard was also charged with felony perjury.
Ziegler was charged with one count of misdemeanor false publication, one count of misdemeanor prohibited conduct, and one count of misdemeanor penalizing an employee for a court appearance. The charges carry possible jail time of up to one year. Byard's perjury charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Meanwhile, in Pennsylvania, a school board member on a three women, one transgender man, one straight man panel announced that she would not vote for the cis white male for school board president, because that wouldn't be diverse.

Despite the fact, as Karen Townsend points out, that one cis straight man is bringing the actual diversity to the three women, one transgender panel.

In this case I think the biggest disqualifying maker for Gregory D'Elia wasn't his skin color or sexuality but his gender. He was the only cis, white male on the board. Ironically his presence was the very definition of diversity on the board. The others, apparently, are either female or perhaps the male seen in the video is not cisgender.

The racist, anti-white, anti-male school board member conceded that D'Elia would be an "excellent" president, but announced that if we are to "practice what we preach," we have to take the commitment to racist, sexist total exclusion and denigration of white men seriously and put CRT theory into praxis.

"I believe that Mr. D'Elia would make an excellent president," Upper Moreland School Board member Jennifer Solot said during the vote on Tuesday in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania. "However, I feel that electing the only cis, white male president of this district sends the wrong message to our community -- a message that is contrary to what we as a board have been trying to accomplish."
She added: "I think it's important that we practice what we preach and that our words have strength when they are spoken, whether we speak them from the neighborhood sidewalks or from behind these tables."

Elliott and Stainbeck threw Solot under the bus, rightly so, and said her comments were "solely hers and were not intended to represent the opinion of the entire UMSD Board of Directors or the district as a whole." To me, that screams please don’t sue us, but your mileage may vary.
Solot was a school board member for five years. I wonder if her comments track with her previous years of service. Did she usually speak like this or is this a new development?

I imagine she spoke like this a lot, though she's been emboldened to let her Kill All Men flag fly by #MeToo and, weirdly, the George Floyd death, which bitter catpiss-reeking white leftwing feminists have, as usual, turned into their Empowering Moment.

I still point out to people that "to discriminate" is simply to tell the difference. The 14th says that if race or ethnicity is the only difference, then it can't be the basis of law or protection of the law.

If you can't discriminate the road from the sidewalk, then you can't drive.

But you'll always get certain reactions from people who think they have a better understanding of the word because of all the people they've heard abuse the word over time.

The school board is up for elections next year. Two seats were on the ballot this year, for some seats that had interim appointments. They had managed to recall one member and another died. One guy was somewhat liberal but independent, to the point that a Republican member was made school board chairman despite only two of nine members Republican since 2019.
Instead of endorsing that guy, the Democrats put up an activist just out of college. So many people voted party line for him, that the Republican won the seat by about 100 votes.

Its frustrating sometimes because you can say "women are x" and at least one woman will say "I'M NOT!" which is beside the obvious point: nobody has time or inclination to type in every possible disclaimer, clarification, or precise definition every post. We use short hand and usually people understand that, but sometimes they do not and we end up with 16 posts on a simple, basically clear and obvious statement.

There is a book specifically reviewing this called The Wealth Explosion, The Nature and Origins of Modernity by Stephan Davies.

There are a number of contributing elements, including the mixing of formal theorizing on the world with pragmatic mechanics, urbanization, trade in fairly free markets, property rights and specialization.

Davies does not do any original research here, this is mostly a review of other people's works, and it is a good jumping off place for anyone interested in the subject.

There is a book specifically reviewing this called The Wealth Explosion, The Nature and Origins of Modernity by Stephan Davies.

There are a number of contributing elements, including the mixing of formal theorizing on the world with pragmatic mechanics, urbanization, trade in fairly free markets, property rights and specialization.

Davies does not do any original research here, this is mostly a review of other people's works, and it is a good jumping off place for anyone interested in the subject.

It'd be mistaken to think Aristotle opposed empiricism, "Nothing is in the intellect that was not first in the senses". I believe his view of reality as a holistic piece with parts having purpose eventually became key to linking things together in a useful manner.

As NaCly Dog pointed out, chemists don't use "cis" and "trans" much anymore (because it some cases the nomenclature is ambiguous), and so have turned toward "entgegen" and "zusammen" with the rules tightened up to render the nomenclature unambiguous.

I had to explain to my wife that it would be bad to mow the lawn at this time of year, because she wants it kept at like no more than 1", ever. It's maybe @ 2". A little less. But if I mow it now, it's going to rip out the dead parts and it won't grow back right.

I haven't heard that it was unpopular to be annexed. Texas was worried about conflict with Mexico or even being taken over by a foreign power to some extent.

They also had a severe government debt and a condition of Annexation was to have the US take that onto itself, which was one of the reasons Annexation was not hugely popular in the US. I don't recall the details of the exodus to Texas area but I think there were several stages. Since at this point the UK was in charge they were fairly tolerant of the bad apples aside from a few examples fleeing the country rather than using force to expel them.

in the book, Missouri turns into a state that drew a lot of the slaves freed when the UK went anti-slavery (and caused a march into Texas for those who didn't like it) so Vandalia becomes majority black.

I don't think there was that kind of planning involved, aside from normal worries about a powerful nation getting a foothold in America.

I've argued in other alt-histories that by 1846 the US was powerful enough that England couldn't afford a war here as we would have taken Canada and possibly the Caribbean off them for sure. It certainly would have been far easier to take Canada than Mexico City. But in the 1830s this wasn't as obvious to them who would have had to do the fighing.

We had to wait five days for them to put a government together. We should have kept it.

Polk wanted to, but his envoy cheated him and sent a treaty that just stripped the 48 state area. He was checkmated and could'nt oppose his own guy.

But taking Mexico likely would have ended the US as we know it. There's too much of a culture shock and too few Americans to absorb it. Hell, we are breaking down now partly because of trying to assimilate Latin Americans that don't have values.

Not really. Sure they were good troops but after 80+ percent of them were shot at Antietam they had trouble keeping up enough force to matter. Same thing happened to good Union troops like Wisconsiners. A few battles and there weren't enough left.

303 By the end of the war most of the North Easterners were home. Sheridan's march through the south were Wisconsin and Minnesota farmers. Tough guys but fighting at 104° it would have been a pull.

Personally, I don't think that they GAS about TX and would have left it to rot.
