I saw this one a few weeks ago and I was struck by the slightly unfamiliar palette. Not good or bad...just different.

You're supposed to admire the artist's painting, not his palette! I'm surprised they even have a picture of it for us to regard. Much less blending than I would have expected, so maybe he was working on an abstract piece with bold, solid lines.

44 I like Brecks. They have a decent catalog.

Colorblends is pretty nice too. Got a whole mess of bulbs from them for last Spring I planted up in winter of '21. I think we were just shy of 1,000 bulbs. All came up wonderfully. Next spring I get to see how well they perennialized.

64 When first looking at an Impressionist painting it just seems like blotches of color. But the longer I study it the more detail and creativity emerge. It's such a change from the more natural appearance and detail of the Pre-Rafaelites, it takes getting used to. I still prefer Maxfield Parrish and NC Wyeth but Monet deserves my attention, as well.

So if you mean the entire Kingdom, it seems it's "The Netherlands", but if you mean just the European part, it's "Netherlands".

While I was at work, the parents were wandering around The Hague playing tourist and looking for a particular museum. They started out by apologizing in English that they didn't speak any Dutch, and Mr. Little Old Man, Dutch himself, replied "who speaks Dutch?" as if speaking Dutch was something only the insane did.

As if that wasnt enough the neighbors under them are illegally growing a pot farm that they try to hide by running the bathroom fans 24/7, causing their entire floor to vibrate. this shit is out of control

Not surprisingly they are planning to move again quickly to a deep red state with the strongest anti-pot laws.

It is an insult, but I think that one is implying Dutch are stingy with money. Iowa has a large Dutch population (centered in Pella, and a few other places), and there is a stereotype of older Dutch people being tight with money.

Maybe related to their historical ties to mercantalism and trade.

Police can 'borrow' machine guns from Fedgov but cannot sell them to third parties. They must either retain them for their own use or send them back to Fedgov.

But, I am not as bothered by the Hughes Amendment as I am about a lot of other state and federal restrictions. I think getting silencers off the NFA would be a more useful thing for the masses and reduce hearing injuries. In a lot of countries where firearms are closely regulated, silencers are treated as over the counter items because they reduce noise for the shooter and neighbors.

Individuals can buy machine guns but they are just really expensive and a range toy/investment for the most part.

Using them as a range toy gets really expensive really fast as you convert cash into empty brass at a fast clip.

I think they'll burn either way. When I made them, it was mix Vaseline with lint, stuff in egg carton section, seal top with wax. The wax helps the Vaseline not be so messy.

What I learned through experience is that lint from synthetic fabrics does not burn very well. So I just use lint from the towel and jeans loads.

Hate to tell you but almost all police agencies have full auto M-16's that want them via Uncle Sam lending them to local police. Some even have old Thompsons, Grease Guns, Reislings, and other such flotsam that Uncle Sam has bought through the years.

Surprised by above story to find out that they could get an M-60 but given Fedgov competence, I should not be surprised.

It hinges on the understanding that there is a difference between a military force and a policing force. If you're in a situation where sustained suppressive fire is necessary, you are no longer Policing. You're in combat. And if the argument is that a combat situation might arise in which a cop has the need to have sustained suppressive fire to ensure their safety during a potential combat, then why do Police get that right to defense but no one else does? Why does their desire to "make it home" outweigh mine?

It's not a trivial question. Obviously, police require some means of force projection, or else no one would ever get arrested. But it's also wrong to place everyone into the paradigm of "Cops" and "Bad Guys", where if you're not a Cop, you're a Bad Guy.

In a similar vein, self-starting charcoal briquettes are inferior to regular charcoal briquettes, which both provide more heat per unit mass and also burn longer. It is the accelerants which mess up the former.

In principle, I agree with you. However, as long as we prioritize a war on drugs, they will gun up and police will too in response. That is what happened during the Prohibition and sparked the whole NFA thing in the first place. Terrorism is a bit easier to deal with traditional firearms.

I ought to have added that the charcoal briquettes' esoterica regarding heat and burn time referred to why self-starting briquettes were not preferred for use in Dutch oven cooking.

Speaking of which, it has been my experience that the rulesof thumb for how nany briquettes to use below the oven and on its top no longer satisfy cooking requirements. I suppose that lowered quality of the charcoal briquettes is the cause.

Yeah no reason to deploy at that time but I'm glad SWAT teams had these vehicles for a number of other incidents. Specifically the one that occurred in Houston in my best friend's neighborhood where the perp opened fire with his auto AR from gas station. The silver lining is his neighbor's son was able to obtain his Boy Scout life saving badge when he tended to a wounded neighbor with a tourniquet.

Ironically, that shit only works on people that have not been through the legal and correctional system multiple times. Ganstas have no problem confronting police and so on and have no fear of being arrested with the charges later dismissed or pleaded to minimal time served. Normal people do. Cops view their job primarily as catching crooks and since the longer that they are in the job, they often come to believe that everyone is a crook because of selection bias. So, an average street cop does not prioritize protecting your rights because there is no incentive to do so. Any mistakes can be written off as US v Leon--good faith exceptions. A decent ruling on the facts that has been stretched to the breaking point.

380 An hour or so to take care of the slush.

Probably 30 minutes shovelling the 1" of slush; and a freaking half hour to do the 'salting' that should take 10 minutes because the freaking 'salt' bag I bought last spring, despite being in the traditional yellow with black stripes & print bag for 100% salt, was 50-50 dirt and salt. [And more like 90-10 dirt to salt from what I saw.]

So I spent 20 extra minutes dumping the fine sand into the jug I use to spread real road-salt and that weighs 2 or 3 times more than the same volume of salt. Grrr!
