The Morning Report — 12/9/22

zoneddefenestration.jpg

Good morning, kids. I don't even know where to begin with this Brittney Griner lowlife and there's a bigger story that broke yesterday which might explain why the Griner swap will most likely continue to dominate the news cycle through the weekend. And since "news" means "daily soap opera" the spin will be the foreign policy brilliance of the Biden junta, the victimhood of Griner and concomitant evil of Vladimir Putin and his puppet, Donald Trump & the MAGA movement, both of which represent the threat of white supremacy. Meh, fuck it and suck it any way you want, but it all comes out the same: America as founded evil, Leftism good.

The more important story that broke is the revelation/confirmation that pre-Musk Twitter was actively engaged in both the overt banning and in many cases secret or "shadow banning" voices contra to the Democrat-Leftist narrative on every issue under the sun.

Independent journalist Bari Weiss took to Twitter on Thursday night to unload a second trove of internal memos and documents exposing how Twitter officials silenced the voices of prominent conservatives on the platform. Radio host Dan Bongino, Stanford professor Jay Bhattacharya, and activist Charlie Kirk were among those Twitter censored or blacklisted, along with the popular “Libs of TikTok” account. . .

. . . “This is some Soviet-style bulls**t,” Bongino told Fox News’s Sean Hannity. “I’ve known [about the shadow banning] this the whole time. I was called a conspiracy theorist and a whack job.” And it’s not just Twitter. Bongino’s website has been banned by Google Ads, and he was banned from YouTube for saying that cloth masks don’t work to stop the spread of Covid. “And now I find out I’m on a NSFW list,” he fumed. “Tell me again how we live in a free country!”

. . . [Charlie] Kirk told Fox News’s Tucker Carlson that his Twitter account was averaging 150,000 retweets a day, but all of a sudden, “we fell off a cliff.” Engagement was down 95%, he said.

“I was called a conspiracy theorist,” he explained. “They convince you to stop talking about it.”

He noted that Twitter was treating his account “with more scrutiny and censorship” than Iran and other state sponsors of terror.

Weiss pointed out that “Twitter denied that it does such things. In 2018, Twitter’s Vijaya Gadde (then Head of Legal Policy and Trust) and Kayvon Beykpour (Head of Product) said: ‘We do not shadow ban.’ They added: ‘And we certainly don’t shadow ban based on political viewpoints or ideology.'” . . .

. . . Weiss’s investigation revealed internal Slack messages where Twitter employees admitted to using “technicalities” to “restrict the visibility of tweets and subjects.” Yoel Roth, Twitter’s then Global Head of Trust & Safety, wrote in a direct message to a colleague in 2021, “A lot of times, SI [Site Integrity] has used technicality spam enforcements as a way to solve a problem created by Safety under-enforcing their policies. Which, again, isn’t a problem per se – but it keeps us from addressing the root cause of the issues, which is that our Safety policies need some attention.” . . .

. . . Kirk summed it up nicely by declaring: “I don’t think we’ll ever be able to measure the impact… of what Twitter did in 2020.” Indeed. While Elon Musk has done the republic a great service by publicly revealing Twitter’s evil deeds, we’ll never know how it impacted everything from the 2020 election to the nation’s Covid response—and that’s a complete travesty.

This is rage-inducing for sure, but the last thing it is to anyone who reads this column and others even casually is surprising. And like every other revelation and admission (grudging or otherwise) from Leftists about everything from the Hunter laptop story being true to that attempted mea culpa about lockdowns and the clot-shot perhaps not being such a great idea after all to even the lack of any real hard evidence against Trump from the Mueller "investigation" to the goose-egg inducing string of shampeachments, Leftists will shrug it off, ignore it or otherwise use some sort of variation of "fake, but accurate" to justify their actions.

Hell, Molly Ball's Time magazine piece not only admitting but praising state and non-state actors for essentially rigging the 2020 election – "fortifying" was the euphemism – is perhaps the greatest example of claiming absolute moral authority to do anything, say anything and act "by any means necessary" to achieve their aims because, as inscribed on every Wehrmacht belt buckle Gott Mit Uns.

Again, say what you want about Elon Musk, good, bad or indifferent, he has made himself a target for termination by the junta in power and its followers in and out of government. I find it bitterly ironic that nearly 60 years on from the so-called "free speech movement" that started at UC Berkeley, that generation and its acolytes and progeny are hell bent on absolutely silencing anyone who dares even question them. Funny how the spoiled, rotten bastard Mario Savio shrieked:

There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part! You can't even passively take part! And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels…upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop! And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!

Mario, baby, from whatever circle of Hell you're watching from, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you and yours are the machine. But I will say this: given everything we have experienced and all that has been revealed about the absolute corruption of this system, I agree you with you 1,000%.

And so that brings us to this Brittney Griner. I don't think we have to go into the details but suffice it to say that as horrible as this was, essentially a win-win for Vladimir Putin (of all people), it was not a gaffe. The abandonment of Paul Whelan, a US Marine who has been imprisoned in Putin's gulag for four years already on trumped up espionage charges speaks volumes. Even if Whelan was an actual intelligence agent, to leave him there for an America-hating pot-smoking freak who couldn't even dunk a donut let alone a basketball is beyond the fucking pale.

But this is not a one-off. Remember, Bowe Bergdahl went AWOL and then committed treason by parlaying with the Taliban, which IIRC resulted in US soldiers being killed and wounded in combat. What did Obama do? Release five big shot Taliban terrorists in exchange for Bergdahl's release, and then fêteing him in the Rose Garden. But wait, there's more!

Just this year, Bout joins two convicted cocaine traffickers related to Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro and a parade of former Guantánamo detainees freed by Biden’s administration. . .

. . . The release of Bout echoes a similar situation in South America in October, when the Biden Administration carried out a prisoner swap with the authoritarian socialist regime of Venezuela. Biden released two of socialist dictator Nicolás Maduro’s convicted drug trafficking nephews in exchange for seven unjustly imprisoned American oil workers. . .

. . . Outside of Latin America, the biggest beneficiaries of Biden prisoner liberation orders so far appear to be the Taliban, who returned to power in Afghanistan after Biden broke an agreement that would have ended the 20-year Afghan War sooner, inspiring the Taliban to take over Kabul in August 2021. . .

. . . In January, the Biden Administration approved the release of three Yemenis citizens from Guantánamo Bay: Moath al-Alwi, Zuhail al-Sharabi and Omar al-Rammah, as well as Kenyan citizen Mohammed Abdul Malik Bajabu and Somali national Guleed Hassan Ahmed. All five had been imprisoned over alleged ties to al-Qaeda.

Two months later, the Biden administration released Mohammad Mani Ahmad al-Qahtani, who had at that time served nearly 20 years in prison for his alleged involvement in the September 11 terrorist attack. Al-Qahtani was released from Guantánamo Bay after the Department of Defense determined that al-Qahtani “was no longer necessary to protect against a continuing significant threat to the national security of the United States,” releasing him to Saudi Arabia, where he is a national.

Lurker extraordinaire and Morning Report's biggest fan Victor Davis Hanson has said (paraphrasing) "What would you do any differently if you wanted to intentionally take down America?"

Convicted spy Ana Belen Montes, a key figure in the Cuban Wasp Network, is scheduled for early release from prison on Jan. 8, 2023. She began her career in the U.S. Justice Department, where she was an outspoken critic of U.S. policy in Latin America. It was at Justice that she was recruited as a spy. Her career then led her to become the premier Cuba analyst at the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), where she also assisted in directing U.S. policy towards Latin America. Convicted in 2002, she was sentenced to 25 years and theoretically should remain imprisoned until 2027.

As part of a network of spies, she not only funneled Fidel Castro’s input into U.S. foreign policy; she also appears responsible for outing 450 operatives. The information she provided may have led to the death of Green Beret Sgt. Gregory A. Fronius in El Salvador, according to her critics. Others also link her activities to the killing of four volunteer pilots, gunned down in international waters over the Straits of Florida in February 1996. At the time, they were flying humanitarian aircraft with Brothers to the Rescue, a group seeking to save Cuban raft refugees adrift on the high seas.

The DIA investigator who helped uncover the ring, Chris Simmons, said to Hank Tester of CBS Miami, “I have never seen someone so heartless in my life.” . . .

. . . Even today, there are an estimated 300 Cuban spies operating in the United States. “The Wasp Network was the largest foreign spy network to operate in the United States, and Montes was one of Havana’s top ten assets,” said Simmons. He is not happy with her early release.

But given the current makeup of the federal government, it is unlikely anyone will put the brakes on it. And while she may no longer qualify to be rehired by the U.S. government, unless she has truly reformed her ways in prison, there may be many activist groups in the U.S. more than willing to embrace her and her policies with open arms.

A couple of years ago, either in the wake of the George Floyd Summer of Love 2: Dresden Boogaloo or right before Biden was planted in the Oval Office, I stated that I would not be surprised in the least if both cop killer Mumia abu Jamal was granted a pardon and another cop-killer Joanne Chesimard a.k.a.Assata Shakur who is living on the lam in Cuba, and being treated as a hero, would also return to America and given a hero's welcome in D.C. at George Floyd Plaza.

If there were long odds two years ago, I think they just got a whole lot shorter.

Have a good weekend.

13 Nice and all, but Twitter doesn't exist in a vacuum. Every platform more or less engaged in this activity, and it all boils down to the so-called News Media's failure to be actual journalists. The large legacy media companies are the ones who ultimately served as gatekeeper. Wasn't in The News? Must not be news. Just crazy people who can safely be shut up.

15 They simultaneously insist that Biden had no control over who Russia released.

And also had no control over who we released.

Because Putin is so big and bad and powerful, except when he is also stupid and weak and incompetent for invading Ukraine.

Biden had NO leverage. None. Not a bit. Nothing our master statesmen could think of.

Justin's far-left NDP partners that have alot of northern rural MPs [and one Lib MP] are also starting to fight against Justin adding dozens of ordinary rifles to his supposedly anti-handgun bill.

||OTTAWA – Seven members of a parliamentary committee studying the Liberal gun bill have requested two special meetings to hear from witnesses on the government’s proposed definition of an assault-style firearm.

The definition, put forward by the government as an amendment, has prompted confusion and controversy as MPs go over Bill C-21 clause by clause.

The seven Liberal, Bloc and New Democrat MPs want clarity on the amendment amid concerns that the measure would outlaw many firearms commonly used by hunters.||

While the ballot printing and harvesting operation was Bidens lever into the WH, the BigTech censorship operation was a critical factor too.

On a business level, every one of these influencers has a tortious interference claim, I would imagine. If I were Twitter I'd be trying to figure out how to somehow sue the censors individually. Make them prove they were acting under corporate instructions.

91 Saint of the Day
St. Juan Diego (1474–154 was a poor and humble peasant of the lowest class of Aztec Indians living in what is today Mexico. His native name was Cuauhtlatoatzin, meaning, "eagle that talks." He was baptized at the age of fifty by a Franciscan missionary priest and received the Christian name of Juan Diego. It was he to whom Our Lady appeared as a pregnant Aztec princess on December 9, 1531—at that time the feast of the Immaculate Conception—on the hill of Tepeyac, in present-day Mexico City, as he was on his way to Mass. To help Juan Diego prove to the bishop that she had truly appeared, the Virgin Mary miraculously left her image on his tilma. This image is now famously known as Our Lady of Guadalupe. St. Juan Diego's tilma still bears the image of Our Lady (miraculously, as the plant fibers normally disintegrate in 15-20 years) and it hangs in one of the most famous Catholic pilgrimage sites of the world, the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. Juan Diego was canonized in 2002 by Pope St. John Paul II as the first indigenous saint from the Americas. His feast day is December 9th.

107 From the Bari Weiss thread, there's something interesting:
Twitter set the account of conservative activist Charlie Kirk (@charliekirk11) to “Do Not Amplify.”

I find this interesting for a number of reasons. Aside from Twitter's obviously fraudulent statements that they don't manipulate trends or lists, this sort of defeats the purpose of a social network like Twitter. Twitter, in accordance with how things are *supposed* to work, should not be able to influence how big something gets or fails to get. It is supposed to *reflect,* not manufacture.

How should I interpret "Do Not Amplify?" Is that Kirk is being suppressed? Is that Twitter is synthetically pumping things up routinely, and they will not synthetically pump Kirk but otherwise not interfere? Is it both that they synthetically pump some things and synthetically suppress others?

I'm going with that last one.

This is where the biggest, most politically sensitive decisions got made. “Think high follower account, controversial,” another Twitter employee told us. For these “there would be no ticket or anything.”

Working without a ticket can have one of four meanings based on my extensive experience in high tech:
1. There is an emergency so catastrophic that there is no time to fill out paperwork. You put the team together and assign someone to create a ticket later to track the effort.
2. The ticketing system is down. You go to paper and create a ticket after the fact to track the effort.
3. The person involved is incompetent or lackadaisical and violates policy. This is the most common, and it can go on until discovered, usually when something goes wrong and there's no paper trail of *how* it went wrong, then the person is usually terminated.
4. There's something nefarious going on.

I wonder which was in play here. I wonder indeed.

137 TGIF! Tucker was covering the twitter revelations live, and his frequent guest, the wonderful Jason Whitlock, really put it in perspective: it's not about individuals being censored, this is about a tech/government/media group performing thought control/brainwashing - and it's evil. His example was BLM, how the social media/news/politicians have encouraged anger and hate toward police that has resulted in so many lives destroyed (businesses burned down, etc.) and lost (the crescendo of BLM in 2020).

Yes, it's outrageous that, say, Charlie Kirk and Libs of Tiktok were censored, but who will answer for the very *antidemocratic* persuasion by this cartel that is destroying our communities in very tangible ways?

140 We are ahead of the curve here in our realization of what America is up against, but I now understand the Washington fear of domestic forces rises against the government. Their sins are so immense, the coup, the ongoing censorship, the manipulation of local and state officials, right down even to local prosecutors...

The elite fears are entirely understandable. And the forceful response from the DOJ/Homeland Security/IC forces will soon get uglier I would imagine.

143 There's a cultural Thing We Do where we say that children are pristine and innocent... and it's a very useful device even if wildly false.

Children are by nature evil, self-obsessed, malicious sociopaths. They don't understand what it is to be a good person, because that is something that has to be learned and taught through acculturation. If we held children to any reasonable standard of justice, they wouldn't stand a chance. It would be absurd. And so we use the fiction that they're "innocent" to help civilization move along.

If that acculturation isn't allowed to proceed, though, if it's stunted by a culture that hates itself and gives children nothing good to grow into, you wind up with an entire generation of evil, self-obsessed, malicious sociopaths who are just... older. And then they start getting into positions of power.

146 From the Weiss thread, from a Twitter comm about LibsOfTikTok (LTT):
Since its most recent timeout, while LTT was not directly engaged in behavior violative of the Hateful Conduct Policy, the user has continued targeting individuals/allies/supporters of the LGBTQIA+ community for alleged misconduct. ....

That's a pretty remarkable excerpt in its full context. We are in a world - a world Twitter in no small part helped to build - where allegation is the coin of the realm. If you allege that a white guy did something, you're a hero even if you're lying. If you allege that an Alphabet Person did something, you're "hateful." Beyond that, of course, is the false narrative constructed. LTT doesn't allege much if anything. She just posts the Alphabet People's own *public* statements made on other platforms. She merely cross-posts. She's a megaphone. She gets their message out there to a wider audience. The people she cross-posts incriminate *themselves.* She doesn't do it, her subjects do. Yet *she* is the one who is "hateful" because she chooses to share what *they* say.

What an enormously efficient sentence.

149 “The Unavoidable Crash.”

Roubini wrote that years of frivolous fiscal, monetary and credit policies compounded by major negative supply shocks have significantly damaged the world economy, including the U.S.:

“Stagflationary pressures are now putting the squeeze on a massive mountain of public- and private-sector debt.” Roubini didn’t mince words. “The mother of all economic crises looms, and there will be little that policymakers can do about it,” he wrote.

Roubini noted that the spike in “unsustainable debt” ratios imply that borrowers were insolvent “‘zombies’ that were being propped up by low interest rates (which kept their debt-servicing costs manageable).” These borrowers include households, corporations, banks, shadow banks, governments, and even entire countries, Roubini wrote. However, sky-high inflation “– fed by the same ultra-loose fiscal, monetary, and credit policies – has ended this financial Dawn of the Dead.”

169 The Great Moderation, the four-decade period of largely stable activity and inflation, is behind us. The new regime of greater macro and market volatility is playing out. A recession is foretold; central banks are on course to overtighten policy as they seek to tame inflation. This keeps us tactically underweight developed market (DM) equities. We expect to turn more positive on risk assets at some point in 2023 – but we are not there yet. And when we get there, we don’t see the sustained bull markets of the past. That’s why a new investment playbook is needed.

We laid out in our 2022 midyear outlook
why we had entered a new regime – and are
seeing it play out in persistent inflation and
output volatility, central banks pushing
policy rates up to levels that damage
economic activity, rising bond yields and
ongoing pressure on risk assets.

N.B. persistent inflation

One thing that the big Atlanta counties did effectively is report early on to the SOS that 80% of their precincts had reported, then backtracked several hours later as Walkers totals began to build and reported that only 55% of their precincts had actually reported - then only 70% after 99% of most of Walker's precincts were in...no explanations were given for this discrepancy...certainly not by the SOS.

And this was not just the US, this is all over the world. Musk has already mentioned the recent Brazil elections, but twitter has often shadowbanned or suspended non-Lefty candidates in every country.

Probably already mentioned, but twitter's insidious speech control/persuasion wasn't just via individual account suspensions/shadowbanning, they did a lot via their Trends sidebar that promoted their preferred politics bigly. They would drive the online conversations by promoting specific hashtags and hot-takes ("Let's all hate this person today!") as well as suppressing/hiding other people, information and stories.

270 My family farms, but small time. We aren't at risk probably of government attack. But my sister in law is part owner of a working family ranch (4th generation now) in Colorado and the government has slowly been encircling them with regulation for years. Developers want their land, to subdivide and turn into country houses for Los Angeles lawyers and Dallas corporate execs. They are close enough to Telluride for skiing, and you can get that authentic western experience! Fly fishing. Riding. All that is needed is to get rid of the family that owns the place. And the Feds are working at that. It's like a real-life "Yellowstone" battle, except the family just keeps to themselves and works hard. But why stop there? Expose those badges to *everyone,* logged in or not, page owner or not. If I am reading someone who's been shadow-banned, I might want to know about that. I might even want to start lighting someone up over it.

------------------------

I sat down with my wife and watched one episode of that show. The newest one, I assume. It was neat to see exactly what the propaganda was going to be.

At the beginning the hard-assed crazy daughter was explaining to her governor dad that the environmental groups didn't believe what they were talking about and were only using whatever the prop was for their advantage in taking their land. Remember, this is the crazy woman talking. Crazy talk.

Then later the crazy woman and the environmentalist who wants to save the earth fought because the vegan environmentalist was being disrespectful about their food.

And then the crazy daughter said that was that, bygones be bygones, everyone is friends now. And the vegan environmentalist ate some meat. She compromised. Met halfway.

Next the crazy daughter will see that the environmentalist is right and will meet halfway, and government and environmental regulation is awesome, everyone.

Okay, thanks for the clarification.

This invites a question, though. Doesn't this categorization delegitimize trans? Drag, transvestites, etc. is, according to the theories, a presentation but not a distinct state. The transvestite is not transsexual. Transexuality is core to identity and reflective of the person's true state, but transvestism is more akin to a fetish. Isn't lumping them together transphobic by their own rules?

I know, I know.
